Yeah, although technically the base item (before going to the tower) is necessary to be in the player's possession in order to trigger some things. You need at least 2 before you can do certain things.
Could do NG+ with a Taker's Cameo, Blessed Blue Dew Talisman, and supplement with starlight shards and warming stones. Then just remove healing from your item bar and you're on your way.
I wouldn't be too surprised if there are mods that let you do that as well as Cheat Engine. Save editing is also probably viable, I think you can do it with Elden Ring Save Manager, I messed with it for a sec to see and it looks like you'd have to look up the Item ID for the activated Great Rune and add it in via that, that should work but I'm not entirely certain. You'd also have to make sure you don't play online with that character after you've given yourself the item or you'll get soft banned.
If you are considering cheating engines, just do it already. I finally opened myself up to them and it has added countless hours of fresh elden ring play for myself.

I used a pseudo regen build against malenia recently and it worked wonders. Blood tax on godskin stitcher with blood infusion, godskin cloth, regen flask. Bring out your mimic if you truly want to be unkillable while proccing bleed constantly. I used it against bayle too and it made the fight a joke lol.
I played with a build like this but I used the godskin swaddling cloth and held the serpent gods curved sword in my off hand (ability works even if your two handing your main). I went for a super aggressive backhand blade build and it was awesome and so satisfying
My latest playthrough was a blue dancer character with two scimitars and after a certain point I realized that with Malenia's Rune, if I just put endure on my main hand I could just out trade everything I fought with my ash and dodge when I needed. It was an interesting experience. Ping-ponging between little defence and zero poise to high defense and infinite poise every fight
also motion modifier will be applied and multihit counts for grune roll damage is actually most optimal and practical in both pbp and pve for malenia grune application
I remember using bloodtax on the Warhawk talons once and was pretty good for healing, but never really tried it with Malenia’s rune at the same time…wondering now if both stack
"The Wiki" lmao I remember trying to follow walkthroughs from the wiki and it's full of directions like "go west to X location that you have never visited" with no indication of how far west, if/what was on the way, or the fact that you actually have to hook south first or some garbage. And it turns out "go west" is actually an odyssey with many twists and turns that ultimately take you vaguely 'west.' Or stuff like "go to the spiritspring" with NO real direction, after leading you to a spot where you can't see a spiritspring in any direction. And then there would be a passage that IRL is maybe 100m long and quite linear described in such exacting detail that you'll get hung-up thinking you missed a turn, but that turn was actually you turning 10 degrees left past a pillar in one room. I probably lost hours of time to their garbage walkthroughs, for things I immediately figured out the moment I let myself forget all of the directions it gave me. They either over explain or under explain - this shit ain't getting proper copy-edit passes. They do a terrible job of keeping consistent context for the information they lay out in their paragraphs. Like, how and what gets explained flips on a sentence by sentence basis. One sentence, the context will change, and they haven't told you, so you have to puzzle out wtf they're even referring to, or what you're supposed to go to/interact with to proceed. If you do literally everything they say, you will get stuck. They do this thing where they frame up what you're ultimately doing, and then randomly switch to breaking it down from the beginning, making it hard to even know what the sequence is. I don't really understand fextralife. They seemingly lack all of the most important info, and have gobs of useless info. I can't believe they want money for it - the only thing worthwhile on fextralife is the interactive map. This is supposed to be all professional but sometimes I think they barely proofread their sentences. So many of them conflict in their own internal statements, or leave enough interpretive room to easily conflict. I go to a wiki to get the exacting details efficiently, not trudge through a vague land of reeds.
Just did a power stance straight sword playthrough and have x10 lordsword straight swords- x2 of lightning/blood/fire/ice/physical so I could swap them out depending on the enemy- Fire and Blood was my favorite but blood/ice is nice too. x4 were max level and the others were one level lower since those last smithing stones are rare. I absolutely MELTED through the whole game. Got Melania in 3 tries. I also swap out my off hand for a seal and use Faith based spells/buffs. it's going to be hard to try a new build next time- I'm thinking duel Estocs might be challenging, my very first playthrough was with the Estoc and a staff for casting spells. The only enemy giving my problems is the Flower boss in the DLC, I'm using x2 Fire infused swords on him since he's weak to fire. I'll get him though if I ever pick up that game again but I'll probably end up restarting since I've done everything but beat the last bosses.
I mean..... I usually have a (fun/balanced) element when theorycrafting builds BUT wow that was interesting!! & I really like the result tbh LOL, reminds me of a DS3 build I tried that uses the twin daggers, darkmoon blade & Iron flesh
It would be kinda nice to at least be able to share rune arcs. I never use them, and I always feel bad when I get rid of them. I know there are players that really want/need them, but I'll still delete full stacks just to stop getting the notification that they're full
The System of Melanias Rune is pretty easy. Its not really time related, its just hit based. For Example: If the Enemy cuts 30% of youre HP bar, the amount will be displayed in the marked area. If the Enemy hits you a second time, the 30% are lost forever and the next amount of lost HP is marked. I dont know the amount of healed HP but again its Hit related. If you hit the Enemy one time, youre gonna get HP back. If you hit him 10 times, youre gonna get 10 times of that first amount back. Fast hitting weapons, multi hit talismans and ashes of War are just the best ground to build that rune. Most of the People don't play it, because there just lacking of Skill.
"Most of the People don't play it, because there just lacking of Skill." lack of skill = It's a Great Rune that you need to be very advanced in the game, you need to defeat a difficult boss, and after you get the Great Rune you need to adapt your build to make the buff worth it, not to mention that I'll be with few bosses to use it, and if I want more I have to pay for DLC, and if i start "New Game+" i lost it. Not everyone changes their build in the middle of the game, and even less considering that only a smaller percentage of these people will think their entire build around a Great Rune and not around something that you don't lose when you die. An dagger have an value of 53 in game code. And Zweihander have an value of 105. It would probably be better remembered if the values were worth it for more weapons, and not just for super fast weapons. There is a lot on the front that makes everyone not forget this rune.
@ReinhardTristanHeydrich Just Clinging to obly one build is Stupid and Cheesy and not worth my time. If you can get 700 Weapons, why should i only use 5 in a Playthrough? I have the Concepz of every Talisman in my Head and even tested each weapon that could work with it. So i level my skills an a variety where i can swap through plenty builds. Its just Lame to kill everything One Burst with a Messmer build, or just Moonveil them Away. And in my Eyes, everyone who cant switch to at leats a few builds, is just lacking of Skill. And its pretty easy to get early to Haligtree. Get the first 2 Medaillons or kill Makar. Use Snake Girl and kill Rykard. (+Godrick) Then Ghostrick and Marghot. Do the Tree Jump an Kill Neill. Secret Lift and then just Malenia. Should work within 4 hrs of Gameplay. I mean... you only have to get a few Somber stones to Cheese Rykard with the Snake spear, so even a Noob could make it... And if You wanna really fight him, there is a Spot an his Knee that you just have to scratch, to kill him without the Spear.
Well, that's not quite the full story. Yes the hits you take matter, but there's also just a 5 second timer in general to get your health back even if you don't get hit during that time which is pretty important. If you get knocked to the ground, most of that 5 seconds is already gone. Yes, evidently fast hitting stuff works the best with it but the reason I did the testing is because not every weapon/attack gets the same healing value with the rune. High healing value with high attack speed would mean very high healing total, so I couldn't pass up that opportunity. An attack with tons of hits/speed isn't necessarily the best option in this case. The option I decided on not only has lots of speed/hits but range and damage as well without relying on multi-hit buffs to perform. Even then I'm not confident there isn't a better option no one's tried yet
@@ichnichdu123yuki6 "Just Clinging to obly one build is Stupid and Cheesy and not worth my time. If you can get 700 Weapons, why should i only use 5 in a Playthrough?" That's not how everyone does it, and we're talking about why people don't use the rune of malenia that often. "And in my Eyes, everyone who cant switch to at leats a few builds, is just lacking of Skill." I can do it myself, and yet at this point in the game I don't change my build, just as in my first few games I didn't change my build after playing for so long that it creates a snowball that makes it difficult for me to change my build halfway through. My attribute expenditure and, above all, the level of my weapon are what make it difficult for me to change my build and try out new weapons. Not to mention that 700 weapons aren't all that surprising since most of the weapons are just different skins with different war grays with a few exceptions where the war ash actually makes it look different and not just a reskin of the weapon type. And the attributes aren't really worth replaying the game for, they're just numbers, not a new moveset. "Its just Lame to kill everything One Burst with a Messmer build, or just Moonveil them Away." Again, the subject was why people don't use the rune of malenia, not everyone is going to change builds, especially considering the work and scarcity of resources to do so, the most you can do is change gameplay style through different talismans, which is also not everyone who is going to do this and look for the resources to do it to the point that people realize that there is a good way to use the rune of malenia as it is in reality. "And its pretty easy to get early to Haligtree. Get the first 2 Medaillons or kill Makar. Use Snake Girl and kill Rykard. (+Godrick) Then Ghostrick and Marghot. Do the Tree Jump an Kill Neill. Secret Lift and then just Malenia. Should work within 4 hrs of Gameplay." In your view, not everyone is going to do it that way, the great mass of players probably won't even think about doing it to just play the game in a different style, especially considering how boring killing Malenia can be depending on the player's level of experience with Malenia.

Each weapon class has a base healing value as follows:
Dagger: 53
Throwing Blade: 53
Straight Sword: 60
Thrusting Sword: 60
Curved Sword: 60
Backhand Blade: 60
Katana: 60

Great Hammer: 90
Great Spear: 90
Halberd: 90
Reaper: 90
Thrusting Shield: 90
Colossal Sword: 105
Colossal Weapon: 105
These values are then multiplied by a motion value depending on the attack you use, these MVs are not the same as the damage MVs, the great rune has it's own unique ones, I haven't tested all of them and probably can't list all of them in a youtube comment anyway but here are most of the relevant ones:
R1: 100 to 110 (Increases for attacks later in a chain)

Running R1: 110
Running R2: 130
Rolling R1: 90

Really great video! I did a run with a build like this at 32 vigor, using dex, but I didn't think about using night claws (I used them wayyyy too much in other runs)
I'm going to try without leveling vigor at all

I used a pseudo regen build against malenia recently and it worked wonders. Blood tax on godskin stitcher with blood infusion, godskin cloth, regen flask. Bring out your mimic if you truly want to be unkillable while proccing bleed constantly. I used it against bayle too and it made the fight a joke lol.
Fiiiine, I _guess_ I'll try to beat Malenia again. Despite getting to the final boss earlier this year I still haven't actually beaten him lol.
This build is just pure AURA
I played with a build like this but I used the godskin swaddling cloth and held the serpent gods curved sword in my off hand (ability works even if your two handing your main). I went for a super aggressive backhand blade build and it was awesome and so satisfying
My latest playthrough was a blue dancer character with two scimitars and after a certain point I realized that with Malenia's Rune, if I just put endure on my main hand I could just out trade everything I fought with my ash and dodge when I needed. It was an interesting experience. Ping-ponging between little defence and zero poise to high defense and infinite poise every fight
in param by using CE
there is a modifier called "wepregen"
which is the base amount of melanis grune recovery
also motion modifier will be applied
and multihit counts for grune
roll damage is actually most optimal and practical in both pbp and pve for malenia grune application
modifier called "wepregen"
is in weapon param column
and ur welcome
Now how’s it work on ng7+
It doesn't 👍
I see you there with the onion night hmms
Just wait until you pair it with Malenia's waterfowl dance or any ash of war that has physical combo to it.
This guy has made me learn that maybe malenia's drops are perhaps good
(Still trying to beat pc radahn with hand of malenia)
I remember using bloodtax on the Warhawk talons once and was pretty good for healing, but never really tried it with Malenia’s rune at the same time…wondering now if both stack
They do stack, though blood tax will likely be doing more work than Malenia's Rune
Marais executioner's sword, range, rapid hits for using weapon skill, I use a rapid hits and tank build for my playthroughs since the dlc came out
@@Ghostangel013 yeah this is a good option but the long charge-up and delay makes it hard to maximize Malenia's rune with this
This is why I hit the bell.
For the perfume bottles with Malenia's Great Rune, Rolling sparks is not required. Landing most of the running heavy attack heals back quite a lot
STANDING HEEERE IM STANDING HEEERE!!!
Spinning gravity thrust on a bleed greatsword and I beat consort on like the 3rd try with a very sub optimal build using malenias great rune.
Oh this is pretty cool tbh?

the hardest part of this build is farming the materials for Ironjar.
Flax + iron jar + tanky armour + Malenia rune= invincible
I mean..... I usually have a (fun/balanced) element when theorycrafting builds
BUT wow that was interesting!!
& I really like the result tbh LOL, reminds me of a DS3 build I tried that uses the twin daggers, darkmoon blade & Iron flesh
Howd this work with the gaius rememberance thingy
Great runes should always be on and nobody can convince me otherwise
It would be kinda nice to at least be able to share rune arcs. I never use them, and I always feel bad when I get rid of them. I know there are players that really want/need them, but I'll still delete full stacks just to stop getting the notification that they're full
I basically learnt nothing from this video. Thanks.

The System of Melanias Rune is pretty easy.
Its not really time related, its just hit based.
For Example:
If the Enemy cuts 30% of youre HP bar, the amount will be displayed in the marked area.
"Most of the People don't play it, because there just lacking of Skill."
lack of skill = It's a Great Rune that you need to be very advanced in the game, you need to defeat a difficult boss, and after you get the Great Rune you need to adapt your build to make the buff worth it, not to mention that I'll be with few bosses to use it, and if I want more I have to pay for DLC, and if i start "New Game+" i lost it.
@ReinhardTristanHeydrich
Just Clinging to obly one build is Stupid and Cheesy and not worth my time.
(+Godrick)
Then Ghostrick and Marghot.

"Just Clinging to obly one build is Stupid and Cheesy and not worth my time. If you can get 700 Weapons, why should i only use 5 in a Playthrough?"
That's not how everyone does it, and we're talking about why people don't use the rune of malenia that often.
"And in my Eyes, everyone who cant switch to at leats a few builds, is just lacking of Skill."
I can do it myself, and yet at this point in the game I don't change my build, just as in my first few games I didn't change my build after playing for so long that it creates a snowball that makes it difficult for me to change my build halfway through.
"Its just Lame to kill everything One Burst with a Messmer build, or just Moonveil them Away."
Again, the subject was why people don't use the rune of malenia, not everyone is going to change builds, especially considering the work and scarcity of resources to do so, the most you can do is change gameplay style through different talismans, which is also not everyone who is going to do this and look for the resources to do it to the point that people realize that there is a good way to use the rune of malenia as it is in reality.
"And its pretty easy to get early to Haligtree.

In your view, not everyone is going to do it that way, the great mass of players probably won't even think about doing it to just play the game in a different style, especially considering how boring killing Malenia can be depending on the player's level of experience with Malenia.

In that Case i would try using Hyper armor to get damaged while landing a big blow like with Marais to just get the full life back
dual stancing some smaller weapons is also a good option
things like this for PVP would be useful
would be epic except for the fact that when I go into the next game cycle, it just removes your great rune so whats even the point.

Would the throwing daggers work well? They’re rapid and they have good range as if you’ve just been hit you’re likely in range to land one.

Try to make same build with Spinning Gravity Thrust on a greatsword with bleed infusion, it arguably better than claws

Idk how this rune is work bc i never used it , but if its works like the rally thing in bloodborne, then u cant just use the pizza cutter with high poise-defense armour?

Without the expensive ironjar aromatics, this build doesnt work
oh no, you have to farm the jar guys near the secluded cell grace for like
@@AlphaSeagullthe fact that you went through the effort to try and get real data for the great rune was more than enough for me. Solid effort + OP easy build.
If you REALLY want to try and cut down nitpickers, you could add farming locations for any necessary materials. But that probably isn't worth the effort. It's easy enough for any of us to just Google a farming location if we don't already know one
I beat every boss in the DLC with bloody dry leaf tornado and iron jar.
Did you try one handing the whirligig saw’s r2? I don’t remember the actual name. But I know the one handed r2 will trigger the godskin swaddling cloth as well.
I tested that one, and it's got the similar problem as many other multi-hits in that the startup is too slow
have you tried the smithscript daggers? because if my thinking is correct they should be faster due to higher attackspeed meaning more healing at least in theory.
@@imperialspacemarine1539 I believe the skill is exactly the same, it's just the moveset that's different. Even if it was a bit faster, Claws of night just deals way more damage so it's still worth it

can you combine with blood tax in a bleed build?
@@Rottingopossum sure, no reason not to. Though if you're using blood tax you might want to replace one of the talismans (probably shard) with Godskin swaddling cloth and replace crimsonburst tear with crimson sapping tear.
