    I didn't know about the different lighting conditions. I know you mentioned over time that you know what to look for for vintage boxes (weight, different wrapping styles, and other small details).
    It would be cool if there was a general, but detailed guide on how someone could "pre-screen" their card so that they know it's even worth sending in

    • @jamesbrincefield9879
      @jamesbrincefield9879 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a lot of experience with grading/buying/selling vintage Magic.
      First off, I’d recommend sending whatever you may have to a reputable grading company (ie. not one bailed out by Rudy). There’s a reason this video was likely the first time you’ve ever heard of PCG while even my mother knows what BGS/PSA is. I’m sure their work is just fine, but if I’m grading something for investment purposes I’m not the one who needs convincing about the quality of their grading, the buyer is. There’s a built-in trust that comes with a PSA/BGS slab and the premium you’ll receive over a no-name grading company is substantial. You aren’t likely to get much above what a raw version of your card is worth when using other graders.
      As far as pre-screening, buy a document scanner. If you don’t know what that is, look it up. It will allow you to get high quality scans of the front and back of the card and zoom in on every square millimeter of the card’s surface without degrading the image. You’ll see things you wouldn’t really pay attention to if you’re physically holding the card in front of you. You can get them fairly cheap secondhand and they make a world of difference. I could get a lot more granular with the information, but I’m trying to finish this by the time the video is over.
      I don’t know you or the contents of your vintage collection (if any), but if you’re submitting lower-end/modern stuff you’re probably okay to skip the document scanner and invest in a much cheaper alternative: a jeweler’s loupe. Make sure it has a light built-in to it. That’s what I started with before graduating to a document scanner and it’s still what I use for authenticating/pre-screening a vast majority of my cards.
      Google is your best friend if you need a guide on pre-screening your cards. There are resources out there that can explain this stuff much more thoroughly than I ever could. Again, I don’t know you but if you personally know anyone who owns vintage MTG (or even just someone who has experience grading cards in general) ask them for help and they’ll likely happily give it to you free of charge. I get a second opinion on most of the stuff I submit. We’re all human. You’re going to miss things that immediately stick out to someone else.
      I hope this was of some value to you. It’s not a skill you’ll develop overnight but it’s not rocket science either. I recommend just jumping into it and trying your best. Start off with a small submission and see how accurate your predictions are and go from there.

    Sub grade semi circles are ugly and a deal breaker for me and many of my fellow collectors. Please push globally for the option of printing sub grades on the front label. The ability to use the QR code at the back thats points to a grading certificate which shows the sub grades is enough. I liked the old PCG label without the sub grades, it was very clean.

    I really wish you well with your new project
    - Even you want to bring some benefits to patreons, you should avoid any kind of way that the company could notice when someboy is a patreon, due to conflicts of interest, also not doing it will protect you against those people that always do conspirancy theories. i guess this suggestion is good to protect your company

    Just checked Form 4s with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and it looks like someone high up at Hasbro dumped Hasbro stock at the same time Rudy made this acquisition. Coincidence? I think not.

    You know Rudy has too much play money when he's getting involved with a throwaway grading card company. Cancel your Patreon subscriptions folks. He's lost his mind.

      @@clownworld8328 How so? If the grading process is superior to the competition why would it not add value? Are you implying that a grade really doesn't matter as much as the company grading it? So even though PCG might have the superior protocol, since BGS and PSA have been around longer they'll always be better?

    Just about everything you’ve ever done, I’ve considered brilliant. This one is a head scratcher, there are so many card grading companies that the pandemic spawned and they don’t see 1% market share. You’re supposed to be the bank of bravos… I don’t know how this made practical sense.

    I would recommend adding an "Authentic" grading service. Some people don't want a grade, but just want their card slabbed for protection. Also, if booster box grading is possibly on the table in the future I would hope booster pack grading would be as well.
