    A legend in the powerlifting world, Pat Casey was the first man to bench press over 600 pounds. Beyond that, he is the model of mental focus and a no nonsense work ethic.

    The old school guys are just awesome. They trained hard with much less drugs and were way more impressive it not even closed.

    The dumbbells at my gym go up to 150. Ever so often I will grab them and just hold them or do a little bit of a farmer's walk just to feel that weight in my hands. There is no way I could press those even one time. To think that this man could add 75 pounds to each one of those weights, lie back on an incline bench and press them for reps is absolutely unfathomable to me. I dare not even fantasize that I could do that. Amazing!

    2:33 How on earth did that scrawny little bench hold all that iron and then Casey himself?!

    Mr. Casey must have been the baddest ass 4 year old of all time! " Born July 15, 1939" , " 1943 discovered Redpath's gym".

    Well it just shows, body building is one thing and makes you look good but real power comes is wierd sizes sometimes. That old guy with a portly gut and not so sculptured arms and legs still had the exceptional genetic muscle efficiency that is not for show but rather pure brute power!

    Does band benching help raw lifters I keep raising all my band maxes and then when I go to straight weight I keep failing my previous pr in starting to think it doesn't help me much

    • @jailhousestrong
      @jailhousestrong  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can play a small role that you most likely have overdone. SO I'd cool it with the bands, if they are no longer transferring drop em for six months and see what happens

    His elbow is below the bench at the bottom. Most world class benchers aren’t even close to that kind of ROM.

    Thought I would give you some more Pat casey info. Pat trained at Sterns gym here in San Diego under the legendary Leo stern. the picture of him on the narrow bench was taken in sterns by Leo. the weight set is one of two russian sets that the gym had. the picture of him using the 200 plus pound dumbells was also taken at sterns and again the picture was taken by Leo. pat never needed a hand with those bells. just grabbed em and pressed em. pat did 400 pound seated military press. btw- Bill pearl trained at sterns as well. he was coached and managed by leo ( lived in leos house across the street from the gym ) I trained at sterns for over 30 years and was a personal friend of leos. the gym is still there. lots of old timers there remember pat casey.

    The pics with the chromed plates and huge dumbbells were taken at "Stern's Gym" in San Diego. I used to train there. The gym is still there on Grenada St in the North Park section.
