Remember that a laptop screen is way smaller than a normal 24 inch fhd one, which most people use to complain about anything under dlss quality being blurry. This actually makes a lot of sense. I bought a laptop and will never do so again because of the lack of upgradeability and enormous cost. However I don't want a full on tower either cause its nice to have something portable. This solves both those issues as at home I can have the most powerful graphics card available and easily upgrade it (unlike a laptop) and I can just use the built in one for travelling. All this is waaaaay cheaper than a laptop.

    I love these vids. Especially the ones with smartphones and mobile SOC's.
    I've been testing Hisilcon's Kirin 9000 on a custom SBC and in the Mate 40 Pro.
    The Kirin 9000/E has 15.3 Billion transistors in a 5nm package the size of a dime. That's just crazy to me. It also uses ARM's 2nd Gen Valhal ARM Mali-G78 MP24 24 core monster and 22core version in the 9000E. Its rated at 2.6TFlops of FP32 compute which is still more powerful than anything in its class. Its just made to utilize the Vulkan API and demolishes anything Vulkan based. Its like AMD's VEGA for desktop. In each of its 24 cores, it has 128 EU's or ALU's, vector units with FP16,32 and int8,16, 32 capabilities. This thing surprised me with it 3,072 EU's. Yesb it has that many. 128x24 = 3,072 EU's. It can sustain 1 Teraflop of FP32 compute at 5watts. Inside a phone but, on a open SBC it can run at it rated 2.6TFlops. I've also been testing the SD865 in the LG V60, modded with some voltage and frequency by way of BLunlock and ROOT tweaks. It has USB-c to HDMI out via the Type 3.1 port and has MicroSD expansion. It also has all the other bells and whistles like a 5000mAh battery and 2Vrms 3.5mm headphone jack with an ESS SABRE 9128 32bit qDAC. This along with the V10, V20, V40 and V60 are all capable of doing all this at a price way below anything else. These are new phones. The V60 has the SD865 and Adreno 650 though. It has just 1,024ALU's but can also sustain its 1.2TFlops with tweaks. People might think LG mobile is dead but, there anything but that. Find a phone with as many features as the LG V-series and has a SD865 SOC but, costs just $350 new. It doesn't exist.

I didn't want to buy a $1500 - $2000 laptop with a mobile 3060 or 1660, only for it to be slightly dated in a year and not replaceable. I don't game often but I enjoy the occasional Sunday Apex or Valorant session. I also needed something that I could move from my office to my master if I wanted to work in a different environment. 16g and a Ryzen 9 is perfect for me to do my actual work on. Then if needed I can upgrade storage and ram later. When it's time to game just slap on a decent GPU in there for some better frames.

    Hey ETA prime, I really enjoy your videos, and it would be good if you could get yours hands on the minisforum elite mini b550. This got me pretty excited because it has a ryzen 7 5700g apu, along with a gpu dock, so you can attach your own gpu. I would be awesome if you could review it. I think the product info is on their website.

    peresonally i think someone shold make a soc set up thats shaped like a gpu then have a proper psie slot on it and have a actual gpu mirroring it on the other side that would look neat as a tower pc... then the power supply on the bottom...
    that would be kind of a sweet compact design... plus a gpu shroud cooler should be plenty to cool a cpu of that type...

    I wonder if anyone ever runs their gpu on their desk like just for fun.. I feel like this has high potential for temp control and cool factor.. They make these gpu's look awesome only for them to be face down in the case. I for sure dont have room on my desk for my build, but i would for my gpu!

    I did similar with a GTX1080ti and a hx90 with 32Gb ram and it works really well with great performance but the Dell DA2 cuts out if you start pushing the resolution too high. I found running a 49" ultrawide. If I ran full resolution it just couldnt cope. However with a 600W evga w2 atx psu powering the card it runs perfectly right up to 5120x1440 and still manages a steady 60fps on Forza Horizon 4 at ultra settings, which is pretty respectable for a mini PC and relatively old GPU.

      Sorry for the late reply, I just used the standard current nvidia drivers. I also run msi afterburner but not for overclocking, just for a more aggressive fan curve to keep the temps down as my 1080ti is a zotac mini so can run a bit hot when gaming.

    eta , i think what you wanted to say is "its only running on 4x pcie bandwidth , not the full 16x of a full slot pcie slot" cuz an nvme ssd IS using pcie lanes for connectivity , just a connector that happens to be named m.2 . ps always loved your videos even if i got frustrated a couple times because you never made a clear video on how to rip your own games for gamecube wiiu etc and be able to play on your pc on an emulator . cheers from a passionate gamer .

    • @therealwhite
      @therealwhite ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason why is because if you rip it yourself, you have to go through a lot of work to mod your console(s), it's a different process between each console (some are way more involved than others), and there are guides all over the internet for this.
      I know, really old comment, but for anyone who still cares about doing this for yourself I'd recommend GBATemp for some really useful guides and links to modding your consoles.

    I have dell laptop. Intel 8750h, 2060rtx. Man this thing is hot and loud. Put liquid metal, temps dropped by 15c, but it lasted for about half a year. Tried reapplying lm, didn't help. And now it got even worse. I want laptop internals, but with much better cooling, quiet and effective. Mini pcs seem like a good option, and they are lighter. Only it's rare to find one with a good gpu. The ones that on the market are super over priced. Minisforum looks promising. Hope eventually they will add powerful mobile gpu.

    How does this compare to the Beelink GR 9 ?
    Unfortunately I don't know how to build a computer so I'm stuck having to purchase one. I'm thinking about doing the same thing you showed with attaching a dedicated external gpu, how much was the one you show in the video.
    If this is any help in regards to what I'll be using this computer, primarily for....
    Video DJing (1080 mp4 vids), music production, streaming and running a radio station once I get the studio fully equipped.

    It would be awesome if they put a mobile graphics chip in these mini PC's. Like this with a mobile 3070 or a 6800m. Seems like it would be a good alternative to a prebuilt.

  • @javiej

    I like this approach and the video is great. But in terms of portability I think there is room for improvement: Have you considered adding a pico psu such as HDPLEX? it is a tiny little thing that gives you the ability to use standard 20V chargers that are much smaller than the old 12V Dell brick.
    Also, using an Intel NUC 11th gen can cut the mini-pc size to half without any performance impact, while giving you the ability to connect the adt-link via thunderbolt 3 by just adding a NVme to thunderbolt 3 adapter.

    • @Patrick73787

    • @javiej
      @javiej 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Patrick73787 My NUC 11th is the i3 model, which has one TB3 port and one TB4 port . But the speed is the same, so I use the TB3 for the adt-link, to save the extra flexibility of the tb4 for other purposes. So that's why I mentioned tb3.
