- Welcome to this new video! We are back in France to travel a very special line today, on board a very special train! Indeed, we are traveling on board the VSOE (Venice Simplon Orient Express) which, after having traveled through part of Europe at night, arrives in Paris from the PLM line. But to get to the Paris-Est station, our train takes a line that is rarely used by passenger trains: "la Grande Ceinture parisienne" or roughly translated, the Great Parisian Belt.
This line will be the focus of today's video. It forms somewhat of a loop around Paris and allows the interconnection of all the main Parisian lines and stations.
Our journey begins at dawn, at the southern entrance of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges station and ends when the train arrives, at Paris-Est station.
You will be able to discover many abandoned stations and facilities, most of which have been barely used and subsequently closed due to the low passenger traffic on the line. Only freight trains, a few inter-sector TGVs and a few special passenger trains like ours today use it.

thank you for this one. It’s a great ride. Love the “former stations”. One get’s a sense of beauty of the old architecture … this journey really zips along …nice! It never ceases to amaze me that the trains doesn’t derail at these speeds and this one isn’t as fast as some of course.

Je suppose que faire passer un train, destination Calais, par Paris- Est, est.dû a l'encombrement de Paris-Nord.
Possible, mais le VSOE a toujours terminé à Paris Est historiquement car provenant de l'Europe centrale et orientale.

Je viens de revoir la vidéo. Elle est vraiment sympa.
Par contre, à 25:50, tu ne quittes pas la Grande Ceinture, car cette section fait partie de la Grande Ceinture et rejoint le Bourget un peu plus loin via Noisy-le-Sec. Ce que tu quittes, c'est la Grande Ceinture Complémentaire qui continue jusqu'au Bourget via Bobigny.
Reminds me of the ring rail around Berlin, of course, that is utilised extensively by many trains.

It follows from the video that the most complex railway infrastructure has formed in the Paris region, which probably requires huge efforts to manage traffic in it and to maintain its overall performance.
Next to the Rosa-Parks platform are industrial buildings with futuristic architecture...
And the train arrives in Paris, apparently, through the "13th district". 😊

Je trouve que certains signaux sont très durs à voir avec le soleil, est-ce un effet de la caméra ou vous avez le même problème ?
Malheureusement, la caméra ne montre pas les choses de la même façon que l’œil les voit.

Pourquoi n’êtes vous pas passez par la ligne GC via nogent ? C’est pas plus rapide
L'itinéraire par Nogent est en tronc commun avec la "ligne 4" Paris-Mulhouse qui voit passer le RER E, la ligne P et les TER Grand Est. C'est pour éviter la saturation qu'on a construit la GC complémentaire dans les années 1920.

@@remiben En fait il y a trois lignes distinctes à l'est de Paris :
* la GC "classique" qui passe par Champigny, Nogent et Noisy-le-Sec. Elle est en tronc commun avec la ligne 4 et elle ne sert donc presque plus.
* la GC complémentaire qui passe plus à l'est et qui est présentée dans cette vidéo. Elle est parcourue quotidiennement par le fret et des trains spéciaux.
- la LGV Interconnexion Est qui relie la LGV Sud-Est à la LGV Nord en passant par Marne-la-Vallée Chessy et Roissy CDG. C'est une ligne à grande vitesse qui sert aux TGV contournant Paris (les fameux intersecteurs).
Donc non, tout le trafic fret passe normalement par la complémentaire, et les TGV utilisent l'interconnexion est.
@@unlapras9365 J'ai un ami cheminot. Il a fait la ligne de GC quand il faisait du fret. On est passé tout près quand j'étais à Noisy le Sec limite Bry sur Marne il y a une semaine. Aujourd'hui il conduit des Thalys entre Pairs et Bruxelles, entre autre.

Le triage de Villemomble est le seul abandonné, depuis un bail d'ailleurs. J'imagine que son âge d'or remonte à avant l'électrification de la ligne (intervenue en 1975).

Les cab ride TGV sont ennuyeux comme la pluie. Difficile de faire plus terne comme décor.

Belle vidéo ! très intéressante sur les travaux "CDG Express", est il interdit de siffler à l'entrée et la sortie des tunnels sur la grande ceinture ?
Quand j'étais plus jeune vers 2005 il me semble que les trains sifflaient encore en franchissant les tunnels vers Champigny mais ayant fait de nombreuses photos / vidéos sur les passerelles qui surplombent la ligne, les trains ne sifflent plus dans les tunnels sûrement dû aux plaintes des riverains.

Une vraie grande ceinture ferait la liaison entre les réseaux en limite d'Ile de France. Helas , les patrons n'en veulent pas. Tout doit passer par Paris !
La Grande Ceinture contrairement à la Petite n'a aucune gare dans Paris intramuros. Sa principale vocation du reste est de réunir toutes les gares de triage de la région, qui sont légion (8 en tout).
Overhead powerlines look very ugly. I know it is a safety issue but despite the French ingenuity I feel much could be done to make the view better.
I'm wondering what on Earth are you talking about ? An overhead line is an overhead line, it's not meant to be "decorative" or anything.

Very impressive the size of and materials used in those former stations that existed as stops for just a decade or less. There must be a story there...

Thank you for the ride along--what is suggested by the map pictured at the beginning--this secondary route into Paris, Team France. Traversing the line gave an impression at times that the train was sneaking into town. And thanks, lorirocks, for posting this. Was hoping to see the Eiffel Tower. Maybe next time...
@@TW_3 Thank you for answering my question as well as the additional information. I looked on Giggle Earth and saw that the tracks are indeed two dead-end sidings for the other route.
By the way, the Complementary Great Obital stations were built in 1928 with the line itself and left abandoned barely a decade after, when WW2 broke. So no, ten years ago they weren't used as stations.
