I was thinking, what is an agate.? Then, I saw that cut and tumbled sugar agate and my appreciation for the beautiful color and bands showed me if I like it then bring it home.
My husband and I went to this location today and found some beautiful rocks. We weren't agate hunting, just looking for things that caught our eye and some calm time on the river. Great location and thanks for sharing!
Great finds bro👍 I too have been looking for tumbling rocks a lot after getting my new tumbler just finished my first batch just gotta finish the vid is all but keep on hounding🍻
Nice way to spend the day dude. I’m not aloud to work cause of a cold and seein you guys in the sun, I think I’m gonna head out on a solo “social distancing” hunt haha!
I hope you feel better really soon man, we are going to not travel too far from home for sometime cause rumour has it that where I live (Washington State) will go into lockdown cause were a hot spot.
Currently Rockhounding Well dude keep safe and wash your hands. It’s so hard not to touch your face!!! I’m on the mend so back to work tomorrow hopefully. Headin to the creek where no one is 😉
Nice finds! A lot of the rocks I pick up are often something that I just think are cool. I run some through the tumbler and I'm often surprised at how they turn out. You never know! Thanks for a nice hike and hunt.
What a great day CR! Such a beautiful place. Do you know if you can camp there? So many spots I'd like to pitch a tent. NOT on the cliffs lol. Imagine the stargazing at night...😌🌌 On my list to visit someday. As always, thanks for taking us with you. 😎🐾
I don't think you can technically camp there, but it's also kind of a no man's land with no enforcement of any kind. If you make it out here you should hit me up! Thanks for watching.
Hey next time let me know when your coming through. New spot earlier this week I pulled out one just under 5 pounds. Has some jasper in it I think. Great video and great finds
Thanks bro. If your near tri cities again I’ll show you the giant boulder pile it came from I’m sure there are more. Thanks for all the hard work your videos are what got me into rock hounding. Keep making them!!!
Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. Fun to walk along with you! I've been flintknapping for about 10 years and recently moved to Washington state. Are there any localities that you'd recommend for collecting chert?
I love making these videos, thanks for watching them! Flintknapping is such a cool skill to have. I'm not really sure where you can find chert at, maybe some Washington flintnapping groups on facebook or something could be a good start.
I've found chert here at the columbia river, about 8 miles to the east of Biggs Junction on the WA side. It was about a 15 minute drive along Hwy 14, then a windy road past an old steel mill. Nice, open spot with a big shore. Not very much chert, but it was there and agates were literally washing up on shore as I stood there. The pieces of chert were pretty large, could bust them up. Another great spot where I find tons of chert is along the Tieton river if I'm in the area. It's hard to NOT find chert, but it's rather ornamental looking stuff and not as brittle as one would expect (assuming I've identified it properly)
Love watching your videos. Great job explaining what you find and giving us an idea of what your looking at when you’re rock agate hunting. What part of the Columbia River are you on? I’m heading to Washington this summer. We’ll be in the issaquah area...
These are all just common names but the regular banded agate is Chalcedony, which is a cryptocrystalline form of silica. Sugar Agates are often just a really nice Quartzite that has banding in it.
Hey, what was expected to be up there in that band of material you were pointing at to maybe come back and explore later? You that would be a good place to find some quartz?
Do you have a vidoe on how to oil your agates? I would love to see your approach. I have not tried it yet myself. P.s. it is snowing at my place as well. SW Washington. It has mostly all mwlted now but we,are still getting some snow flurries here and there.
I do not have a video up about how I do it but maybe I should. It's pretty simple. Clean your agates how ever you see fit, those them in a toaster oven at 250 degrees so they can get dry and hot, then take them out and while there still hot drop them in some mineral oil and let them soak it all in. Yeah we just got a few inch's has some weather in the teens. Living at elevation for us is nice thou.

Thank you. This area is north of the Pasco, WA area on the eastside of that state. Issaquah is kind of on the opposite side of the state.
I keep hearing the term "sugar agate" what makes one a sugar agate apposed to the regular banded agate?
These are all just common names but the regular banded agate is Chalcedony, which is a cryptocrystalline form of silica. Sugar Agates are often just a really nice Quartzite that has banding in it.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding awesome thanks for your reply, still learning as I'm relatively new to this
May I require are the holes, in the quartzite rock (12:37), fossil or geological formations?
I'm pretty confident that they are geological formations.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding thank you
