I've watched and re-watched this many times and you put so much work into it that I have to express my gratitude. My partner and I found some CBA's last weekend high up Phillippi canyon almost 800 feet above the Columbia and we are now hooked. One of the CBA's is a weathered partial and is larger than a softball! The 3 that I found are quite normal and much smaller in comparison. Great job.
Appreciate it! I'm having a lot of fun making these, from talking to super interesting people, to nerding out explaining stuff, and making dumb jokes in the script.
This is very interesting info about the Columbia Basin Agates in Eastern Washington state, especially for someone living in CT where we have Nothing like these agates/jaspers. Our geology is so much more different than these areas of the Northwestern part of the U.S. Even in my early 80's, still trying to learn. Many years ago,1978, on a cross-country auto trip, traveled thru portions of OR and along the Columbia River. No time to go rockhounding. Didn't know anything about the geology of OR/WA states.
OMG! I’m in Michigan and I’m finding all kinds of agates on a dirt road that I take walks on everyday! A lot of them look like the ones that you are displaying. 😮 So cool!!! Most of them are small to medium sized stones. I would love to find larger ones. But I do find a lot of agatized fossils too! Can I polish the fossils?
I just loved seeing your videos about Columbia Basin Agates! I will be moving home to Idaho, Lewiston area, and can't wait to see Jason's shop! Thank you
Unfortunately, Jason had to move shop and hasn't re-opened yet. He's still updating on FB though if you check out Brain Body Balance there for the latest.
I just recently found several agates in the Columbia Gorge within a similar cobble layer that I have observed during visits to the White Bluffs area. I have lived in the Tri Cities most of my life. I have hunted and found CBAs throughout the area for over 50years. My question is are the agates I found in the gorge potentially and or could be labeled CBAs? While typing my question you actually answered it. Thank you for the amazing information. I appreciate gaining new knowledge regarding areas I have spent my life exploring.
Me too that is why everyone loves your work Thank you so much I am subscribing to see more of your stuff My daughter has a business selling crystals and makes her own jewelry and your videos are extremely informative THANK YOU
hey great video, loved the editing that really shows how much knowledge both traditionally trained geologist and on the ground rock junky prospectors have and how they overlap and help gather the bigger picture, another great vid, ty
Great video I come from Hockinson WA Technically in the willamette valley. We used to pull gallons of CBA’s from the creeks there. They had to come from prehistory floods that came before the Mazulla floods.
I’ve got twenty acres about ten miles southeast from Satus Pass (which is at 3100’ elevation), which property is at about 2400’ elevation. I have found many smooth round reddish rocks in this area of basalt flows. I’ve always wondered how the heck they got placed on top of the basalt. Great video.
Great video. Lots of info. Beautiful specimens. Do you know if any gravels were every quarried out of the Columbia River Basin and moved out to other locations? The Ringold material looks very much looks like a made made area I visit sometimes. Tons of the stained quartz and reddish pebbles. As well as greens and other colors. Some jaspers and some typical agates. I would have never thought to look for CBA's but I'm wondering if it could be a possiblity. I assume an untrained eye may see all river cobble to look similar so I very well may be way off. Thanks
Anyone have a time stamp for when they actually start talking about where to find em? Thats why i clicked the video. But itnjust keeps talking about stuff i already know about. Id just like to know where i can start looking without bothering anyone
Columbia basin agates don't come from anywhere. They're local. I've personally dug them out of the basalts myself. I've also found them in gravels in Vancouver, WA.
On your thumbnail the lefside stone looks like petrified poo 💩...just sayin'😮😂I'm enjoying how the video is presented & very informatve! Thank You!!🌻 Very Interesting Subject.😊
Thank you for the notice. I forgot I put a link in there. His storefront closed earlier this year. I think you can still reach him via Facebook at facebook.com/brainbodybalancerockshop/ if you are interested in anything he has posted there.
Then why do I find the same agates in Southern Alberta? Don’t ya think the ice wall collapse and massive wall of water from Canada had moved stuff from up here, to there.. hence why the entire landscape from the Milk River Ridge to the Columbia basin looks like a moonscape.. heard that from more than one geologist more than once. I even find examples of rocks supposedly only found in Texas. Those got here from a massive meteor hit.. but hey, lets talk about those young rivers as being why these multi million year old rocks exist there.. ok sure.
You did such a great job on this, Patrick! You were definitely born to be a documentarian!
Thank you for being a part of it!

This is the best video I've found yet on Agatesand I've searched endlessly for a few years now Thus is the most informative one so far . NICE!
Glad it was helpful! For how popular Agates are, I was surprised at the lack of informational videos.

Spectacular video!
This was brilliant, so interesting 😊
Excellent documentary!!! ❤
CThere is a gravel pit between Toppenish and Wapato that has an incredibly large variety of agate. I have even seen fossilized agatized plants.
I've found cba's in vancouver, washington north fork lewis river that look exactly like the one's you are showing
