    😂😂😂 we went out last night on a gravel road with a spray bottle and flashlights, only one person stopped asking if we were ok. The road had to be where the old insane asylum used to be in Minnesota. Google it and hells tunnel in Minnesota. Im sure the people that passed by just wanted back on the main road 😂😂. Found some agates and a couple lake Superior agates. So worth it! Happy hounding 🎉

      Haha that's awesome and sounds totally relatable! I always try to be out super early in the morning, before the sun comes up preferably, and I'm sure people that see me think I'm crazy too. 😛 I did look it up, and that looks a little creepy for sure! Especially at night lol. Lake Superior agates are so pretty, and quite different. It's definitely on the bucket list - someday! Happy hounding 🤠

    Hello. I’m new to your channel. You popped up on my recommended channels, probably because I follow the crystal collector. I started hunting for “pretty” rocks when I was very young and have ever since, that is until recently because of arthritis and other health issues. I love the Pacific Northwest for hunting rocks. I know the Columbia river spans other states, but I’m in Oregon south of Portland. Cute story, when my grandson was 6 we were outside in their driveway, which is all gravel. One day when I got out of my car, I noticed a piece of agate and the fever hit me so I kept looking. He comes over and asked me what I was looking for, I told him I was looking for treasure. He got very excited and said he wanted to look for treasure too. Well I showed him what to look for and now he’s 8 and still looking for treasures to give to grandma. Glad to have found your channel. Happy hunting.
    P.S. could the first green rock be unakite and the second one be malachite? Just a thought.

      Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your health issues, but I'm glad you enjoy the channel and hopefully it at least satisfies the rockhounding itch. Your grandson sounds like a budding rockhound also, haha! It's a nice reminder you don't always have to go far to find nice rocks, even agates. I often hear about people finding them even in the gravel on parking lots.
      I was thinking the green might possibly be epidote (one of the minerals in unakite), but I'm honestly not sure. Thank you for your comment!

      I do some prospecting south of Eugene and I found a little creek called little gold creek and it's loaded with jasper thats nice and water polished. Don't bother looking for gold, there ain't none, but the jasper and agate is worth the drive.

    I lived in Burbank Wa. when I was a kid in the late 70's and at that time the powers that be built a small spoil island right at the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers that was (and probably still is ) a rockhounders dream ! I found there a very large Agate the size of 2 adult fists there ! and unless you have a boat or a yac to get out there and most if not all the stones are already tumbled round in various sizes ! I would go back if I could ! PS -it's on the Burbank side of the river !

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing! Personally I haven't made it that far up the river yet, but from what I was reading is that around that area is where at least some of the agates erode out of the ground (I guess some volcanic activity happened there). I'd like to explore it more in future, and when I do I'll make a video about it (provided I find something lol)!

    Hi, I live near Biggs Junction on the Columbia. Could I find Biggs jasper on the beach? What else should I look for?

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, a quick search tells me it can be found in the lava flows that covered Oregon, Washington and parts of Idaho. Other things you can find on the Columbia river are agates and its different forms like chalcedony and carnelian. Petrified wood is also possible. Look for gravely beaches. Good luck and have fun!

    Ever try biking into 1k acres just past troutdale to the beaches? Used to run my pup out there it's pretty massive, good possibilities.

      Not specifically that area, but this is pretty close to it. Finding gravel bars in the area can be challenging at times (and being able to get to them) in my experience.

    What is the difference between calcedney and agate?

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An agate is made up of chalcedony but chalcedony isn't necessarily an agate. What makes it an agate is it having banding or eyes. Thank you for watching!

    Why do you call it a water line. It's banding in agate, with some of it being non-precious opal. Read about geology and agates so you can learn the real terms of what you see. BTW, getting the host rock out of the agate like you want will make it less valuable, but you do you.

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Water line agate is a term used within the hobby. Look it up. This is a hobby, I'm always learning. However, I'm not a geologist, nor am I pretending to be one.
      These agates don't have any value worth talking about, I'm also not in it to sell them either. So if removing host rock so it reveals more of the chalcedony/agate, why not.
