During Palpatine's story at the opera he is in fact talking about himself, only he was Plagueis's apprentice. He learned all he could from him and then killed his master, as is the way of the Sith. Palpatine had Anakin kill Dooku at the beginning of the movie because of the rule of 2. There can only be 2 sith and he wanted Anakin to replace Dooku. Dooku wasn't aware, which is why he looks at Palpatine with such confusion.
George Lucas started by releasing what is now known as Episode 4, A New Hope (it was simply known as “Star Wars” when it first came out in 1977) because he felt that part of his overall story worked better as a single movie with a beginning, middle and end. So if the movie wasn’t that successful, at least it could stand alone and make sense. But if it did make lots of money (it did), he could continue the overall story. None of the other movies could really stand on their own in comparison.
It was 20th Century Fox. Basically, Fox wasn't gonna fund Star Wars, but George told them: "if you fund this movie, I will relinquish my salary and fund part of the movie myself. i just want two things; All the rights for the story, and a share of the merchandising rights." So yeah, possibly the biggest payout in history, considering how things turned out.@@Themrine2013
Just in case it hasn't been said, Qui-Gon's "immortality" is being the first to figure out how to come back as a cool blue ghost. That's also why you could hear him calling out Anakin's name in Episode II while he's killing the sand people.
Vader’s anger and hate kept him alive until the mechanical and medical assistance came along. That’s why Palpatine is surprised to see he’s still alive when he arrives.
@@PeglegSailor after that point Palpatine keeps him alive with the force. The scene cuts back and forth between Vader and Padme, and if you listen to the audio, their heartbeats sync, Vader is born then Padme dies. Palpatine kills her, steals her life for Anakin. But more than this, if you read the ORIGINAL treatment for the Prequels from the 80s called FALL OF THE REPUBLIC, in that script Palpatine literally tells Vader he kept him alive through the force. It's an old idea Lucas kept, he just doesn't outright state it but puts clues in. Another clue, Vader himself says "SHE WAS ALIVE I FELT IT" he knew for a fact he didn't kill her
Padme's last words: There's still good in him. Anakin's last words: You were right. Also, at the end when Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting, the choreography is amazing, especially when you consider the fact that the two actors are NOT filmed at high speed and the two practiced so much that they were actually able to fight at that speed.
Seeing Padmei at her burial, looking like she is still pregnant, many people speculate that this was done intentionally to look this way in case anyone came looking, to seem as though her unborn children had died with her, preventing anyone from finding out and coming looking for Luke and Leia.
@@gaynor1721 no the uterus has to shrink after being stretched out. Doesn’t happen instantly. Took me about 4 weeks until my stomach was flat again and I didn’t exercise. Her bump was waaaaayyy too small though for having twins that size though.
Don't forget that Anakin was also groomed by Palpatine for years..Padme was the catalyst that made him fall to the dark side faster, but i think even without her he still would have fallen eventually with Palpatine at his side constantly twisting his mindset, besides Anakin wanted that power to save people from death since his mom died, even without Padme he wanted that knowledge.
I agree I think padme was probably slowing down his descent at first, but then ultimately became the thing that drive him down that path, that and how the Jedi council played right into palpatines hands with their treatment of anakin
Palpatine manipulated Anakin's dreams to make him see Padme dying. That's why he knew what again was worried about when he started seeing the Dark Side to Anakin. Palpatine was gonna turn him no matter what it took, he was studying him and grooming him every since he was brought to Coruscant.
Not true. Anakin had morality. Sure his trust in the council was disnegrating, but whether he was going to turn to the darkside even without padme is just a theory. Not a fact. Bc anakin's sole reason for turning was bc he wanted to save padme. Anakin wasn't interested in joining the darkside. He wasn't fond of the idea of being greedy, selfish, and all-powerful in the first place. He only ever wanted extreme power to protect and keep those he cared about alive. By saying he would join sidious just for more power; it would make anakin ultimately a bad person
@@insultlk You literally explained that he wanted extreme power, then (in the very next sentence) said joining the dark side for power would make him a bad person. That's exactly the case.
"Love will make you go the Dark Side". It's a sad truth of the human condition that there's nothing like a good cause to bring out the worst in people.
My theory of why Yoda talks like that is because he's 900 years old. Olde English used the same sentence structure as Yoda. And was used 900 years ago. It's possible that along time ago, in a galaxy far away, they had a similar etymological evolution of their English.
Anakin's story is an example of where 'love' becomes possesive & obsessive of another, due to the fear of loss which is the shadow of greed - thus is the difference between selflessness and selfishness ~
The scene in the temple where the kid jumped back occurred because Hayden Christensen scared them by blurting out "boo" and moving toward them when he entered the temple. Hayden and the kids kind of developed a close bond during the filming and they were having trouble not laughing when they tried to do the scene. Watch the sequels if your members want but much like Obi Wan watching the holo recordings only pain will you find if you view them.
The circle is now complete, when you began this journey you were but a learner but now you are a master (bonus points for those getting the reference).
I'll never get over this movie, whatever people may think about the prequel trilogy and the memes and what not this movie was good and it did everything it needed too... So yeah I think it's a good movie
Idk where all this negative shit came from when it came to then newer trilogy. But I was a kid when they came out so I wasn’t paying attention to what the people who were young adults back then were saying. But im pretty sure the kids today will look at me the same way since I hate the everything after this trilogy. Except for obi wan (a little bit) and the mandalorian.
@@donnyouttheway4091 well The Midiclorian or however that’s spelled. The most controversial thing George Lucas did with his prequel trilogy was attempting to explain the force. The whole idea behind it was originally that it was some sort of mystical, unexplained thing that held the universe together and ran through everyone. For some reason, Lucas decided to reduce this down to some sort of biological infestation which meant Anakin had a particularly high midichlorian count, and therefore became very strong with the force. Luckily, everyone hated this particular device so much that it was never mentioned in a canon film again, even if Lucas stated that his own version of the sequel trilogy would have dived deep into the little lifeforms 2 Yoda’s Acrobatics In fact, there is a lot of inconsistency between Yoda’s portrayal in the prequels in comparison to the original trilogy. When we first meet him in episode 5, where he is a cute little puppet who walks around very slowly and needs a stick. About thirty years earlier, he was busy backflipping over the head of Count Dooku and single-handedly keeping back the impressive lightsaber skills of Emperor Palpatine. Considering he was over 900 years old in both trilogies, what could possibly have happened in those thirty years that aged him so incredibly quickly. 3. When Luke and Leia are talking about their mom, Leia explains that she can remember a little bit about her and what she was like. This, understandably, led the audience to believe that Padme was around for a while and tragically died young. Revenge Of The Sith ignores this line entirely, killing Padme mere seconds after she had finished naming the kids. If Leia really could remember her mother, then she has some seriously impressive memory skills.
@@thereisnopandemic I had really come back and read this 😂. But I knew that first part. The part about the force really didn’t bother me personally. Only because it really didn’t matter to me. The only thing I wanted to know was, what happened to the jumps? The flips? That’s what I didn’t get when the next few movies came out. I just wished it was more Jedi and sith again. I’m good on the flying, shooting, romance etc. episode III was so mind blowing for me at 10 years old. Plus my pops hyping me up for it, telling me Anakin was darth Vader. I just miss that feeling. And oh yeah, that Luke and Leia situation didn’t make sense either. But I saw other people say , palpatine drained padme’s life and gave it to Anakin. Idk but I can see why people didn’t like how that went.
George Lucas had the entire storyline from 1 to 6 all planned out when he started, but he and his team didn't know if it was going to be successful. So he had to choose one to start with that could stand on its own well enough as a single movie in case it didn't do well enough for the studio to let him continue while also getting audiences interested enough to see what else this universe he created held. And how episode 4 became the first Star Wars movie to be released.
Although that's not confirmed, I doubt that. George didn't like starting stories from the beginning, he liked starting in the middle. He didn't even know Leia would be Luke's sister until later on.
Palpy was the apprentice that killed his master, Darth Plagueis. He manipulated everybody the whole time. Dooku and Grievous, and the whole droid army attacking everyone, were working under him so that he could be installed as chancellor under the guise of being needed to stop them. He, then, turned on all of them. He was the one that had the clone army commissioned. He also knew that Padme was in no real danger, except from Anakin, yet used her in order to manipulate Anakin. Mace Windu was another instance of Palpy's manipulation. He wasn't as helpless as he seemed, though Windu does appear to have actually bested Palpy with the lightsaber; instead, Palpy wanted to use Windu to suggest to Anakin that the Jedi were trying to take power by murdering him. He twisted the truth into lies to gain power, much like politicians today.
I'm pretty sure the first Star Wars movie was supposed to stand on it's own but was such a hit they had to do a sequel. The decision was made to just keep telling the story from that point forward. Same for Return of the Jedi. The prequels came out around 20 years later as a separate project.
I’ll never forget waiting in line opening day, I’ll never forget the full crowd and the beach ball that got bounced around. Most of all I’ll never forget Anakin’s scream as he comes back alive as Vader. Congrats kid, you did the biggest and bestest episodes.
Grevious was kinda sick like you described. Mace Windu actually confronted Grevious and crushed his lung cavity (he's a cyborg) with the force earlier on in the battle of Coruscant before the opening scene. This is when Grevious actually infiltrated Coruscant to capture Palpatine which you can see in The Clone Wars series from the early 2000s, not the later Clone Wars series that has 7 seasons. I highly recommend it.
@@Moakmeister that’s forever canon in a lot of peoples mind and marginalizing it because you were probably not on the come up when it occurred, doesn’t make it any less in peoples mind.
Grevious was pretty much Palpatine's first test of what he could do with Cybernetics in case he needed the technology later. I'm not sure if he knew he was going to need the Tech for Vader.
"You can save people from death, you get chicken, mashed potatoes..." ah yes the perks of the dark side. Seriously, I'm having so much fun watching this reaction- I hope George Lucas gets you to help do commentary on the next re-release.
I love the climactic lightsaber duel on Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan. The music, the fight choreography, the special effects and the audio design were also top notch and hold up really well. It's supremely more tense than any of the other lightsaber duels. Also, the fight choreography between Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor is at real time. Not at all slowed down or sped up. They just got so good during rehearsals for the lightsaber duel, that they kept the speed of the movements in real time. Side note: Your commentary never fails to be entertaining.
It's about nothing. There is no reason, there are no stakes and it doesn't have any consequences. (No, it doesn't. Anakin was basically Vader before the fight). Why is he angry? How are they supposed to be friends? Overlong CG duels with no consequences... that's probably why Matrix 2 and 3 are so good. Or are they? Besides, who are those heroes on both sides? - that would mean not every character is black and white but that'd way over the head of SW writing. In SW you are either a hero or a villian not because of the actions, but because the music and the lighting says so. And if you have a skin condition you must be top rank evil. And why is Grievous basically another version of Vader minus the charisma? Two films and nothing to do and no character. Nothing means anything. After a dozens of films and shows nobody knows what that prophecy is or how it matters or what "balance" would mean... These films are so incredibly lazy.
@@rolliepollie94 Well, I do know the prequels very well and don't like them very much. Or at all. They are poorly written and executed and edited and I don't have to be apologetic about them just because everything after was worse but for different reasons. 🤷🏻♂️

@@golf-me2bh Correct, I don't understand them. So maybe you explain to me: What is the trade federation? Why do they block Naboo? How is this bad for Naboo? Who lives there apart from the palace staff? How do they form a symbiosis with the Gungans? How and why does the droid army drive around the planet? Why do all their ships disappear but one? What is camp four and where? Why would they bring Padme there if they want her signature? Why do they want her signature after they invaded anyway? All these questions cover only a few nonsensical minutes of the film. I could go on. You can enjoy the films forwards and backwards, that's fantastic. I merely remarked on an overly enthusiastic comment that the films are objectively very sloppy in many aspects so there is no reason to praise them as comparatively good films - no matter how much personal enjoyment you rightly derive from them.
These films had the best light saber battles! Revenge of the sith my favorite. Crazy how the sith lord manipulated him to. Even to the end " in your anger you killed her" that way darth vader has nothing to redeem himself for and blames himself until he meets his son :)
What I always love about the Star Wars movies are the world building, like the different cities, like advanced cities with flying cars, water city empires, forest city empires, the different types of advanced spaceships, the different alien species, it's all just awesome, because it all feels like a different adventure in many beautiful, different places. Tell me what you think.
I saw an interview between Christopher nolan & george lucas, nolan asked about the release order of star wars. George explained that his first inspiration in movie making was the old school japanese martial arts movies, many of which begin with the main fight , and the rest of the movie is dedicated to explaining how the conflict came about. The audience has to try and catch up with the storyline. Lucas wanted to apply that concept to star wars.
I rarely ever comment on TH-cam, but gotta say that i watch a lot of your video's and this one is probably my fav reaction yet. Hilarious. Thanks for lifting my spirits. Keep up the great work Leo.
Can someone tell me why it took until this watch of Episode 3 to get that Padmé saying "Love has blinded you?" jokingly to Anakin was actually foreshadowing? Great reaction as always! Stay safe man
*Hey bud, you asked why they were released in this order* When George Lucas started writing the story back in the 1970s, he wrote a rough outline of WAY too much for one movie and so when he was trying to get money from a film studio he had to figure out what part of all of his notes he wanted to focus on, and at that point he didn't know it was going to be a success or make any money, so he was thinking about what part of all the stuff he wrote would be good in a movie by itself in case it was the only one made, and so he thought the events of episode 4 was a good place to start. After 4 was a HUGE success, he didn't have any problems with getting money for making more movies ever again, and was able to make 5 and 6. He had some ideas about 1, 2, and 3 but at the time the special effects weren't good enough to do what he pictured in his head, but by the mid 90s came around, he realized that computers were able to finally do the complex blue screen and stuff and so he decided to polish off his old notes for 1,2 and 3 and finally make them.
What's very interesting is that the story of Darth plagueis the wise is actually palpatine's master. Who he killed right before episode 1. There's a deeper lore about that but it's pretty interesting.
My understanding of 4, 5,and 6 coming out first is from George Lucas as a child would listen to radio serial programs like "Flash Gordan," or "Buck Rodgers." He noticed that you never would hear episode 1, when you started listening to a radio program it was always well along with no way to go back to older episodes.
You were actually right about Palpatine talking about himself in that one scene with Anakin. When he was younger, Palpatine killed his master, Darth Plagueis the Wise in his sleep.
He was alive up until Palps became chancellor. Papls got him so drunk in celebration of him winning the election that when he passed out drunk, thats when he struck. So technically he was alive during episode 1. Still wished we had a Palps series when he was the apprentice.
@@mastixencounter although true but he only served for a specific role, a tool, which he fulfilled. hence why he was also known as a sith assassin more compared to an apprentice. he was tossed aside quickly as he realizes it when he told his brother in clone wars.
@@mastixencounter which when mace asked, who was destroyed, the apprentice or master? when at that time palps technically just became master in that instance for killing his master, plaguies. maul seemed like an apprentice to us but he simply wasnt in reality. although not canon, read the plaguies book. its amazing
In case you were wondering why General Grievous is a coughing droid. Master Mace Windau did a sharp "force push" into Grievous's chest during the clone wars, impacting his lungs through his armor.
The opening space battle scene in this is mind-blowing, one of the best I've seen. I've been waiting for this reaction from you and you did not disappoint 😁👍 "Go over Auntie Wookie house" 😂😂
Qui-Gon Jin was able to figure out how to come back as a force ghost. Now certain Jedis would use that method to come back and communicate with living characters.
the path for anakin to join the dark side started with the Maul vs Obi Wan and Qui Gon Jinn fight, that's why that fight is called the duel of the fates, it determine Anakins Fate where Qui Gon saw the flaws in the Jedi teaching and love was never supposed the be taboo for jedi but they taught that it was, Qui Gon would of raised anakin differently and he would of never been seduce by the dark side but he was raised by Obi Won who was true to the jedi code, which lead him to becoming darth vader
Episodes 4-6 were released first because George Lucas wasnt finished writing everything for the first three and felt that the technology needed to shoot the rest of the story hadn't been available yet. The story of Luke was pretty straight forward in comparison to Anakin so he started with the trilogy that EVERYONE could follow and be pleased with, mainly because it could earn him traction/support for the rest of his vision.
I don't know if you ever react to television series, but the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi is only 6 episodes, takes place during the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. I really enjoyed it, and it really develops Obi-Wan's character as he deals with PTSD caused by the events of this movie.
Out of all the Star Wars shows to recommend to him. Lmao. No. Just, no. The Clone Wars animated show, or The Mandalorian. Those are the only ones worth watching.
@@Drax514 That’s your opinion. I agree with OP; Kenobi is absolutely worth watching if you want to follow the Kenobi/Vader storyline. Just because YOU don’t like it doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
Lucas started writing a sci-fi novel where the main character was called StarKiller, than he developed the story which become Star Wars, without any number), but the script was too long for just one movie and not all the characters were defined yet. So Star Wars was shotened and released as a stand alone movie, without any number, and after its success Lucas could go on with the story. Star Wars became Episode 4 when Empire Strikes Back was released and wile writing it Lucas decided Vader would have been Luke's father, that's why in the first movie (I mean ep.4) ObiWan tells him Vader betrayed and killed his father, because that was the first idea. The story of the prequels was not defined at those times yet, it was just a bunch of notes to launch the story.
Great reaction! 😊 This is my absolute favorite of the prequel trilogy. And tied for first with "The Empire Strikes Back" as my favorite of all the "Star Wars" movies. The ending lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader(Anakin) is by far my favorite scene of the movie. The fight choreography with Ewan and Hayden along with the music. It's outstanding! This movie does a good setting up the original trilogy as far as learning how Anakin turned to the Dark Side, how Leia ended up with Bail Organa, and how Luke came to live with his Aunt and Uncle on Tattooine. Next up for "Star Wars" is "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" movie. OR since you just finished the prequels you can start on the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Disney+ series since the prequel movies are still fresh in your mind. Which ever one you decide. 👍 By the way, your dog is a cutie. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
George Lucas basically picked the episode he thought that he could realistically make at the time back in the 70s. That happened to be episode 4. That being said he figured it would be a single stand alone movie at the time he made it. It did so well that it snowballed into the rest.
anakin was said to bring balance to the force and they didn't think about how the jedi ruled during this time...Also they believed that he was conceived by the force and the person that did it was palpatine's master.
George Lucas once referred to the Star Wars movies as “The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker”. The original sequel had true fans like myself (I saw Episode 4 in the theater in 1977 when I was 7 years old), we wanted to know what happened and how Anakin became Darth Vader. Episode 3 gave me a new appreciation for the original sequel, especially Episode 6. It really is a story about the tragedy of Anakin, I cried at the end of this movie.
Ohh snap dude I'm so glad you're watching this one! This one was always my favorite! Also you're right about dooku being strong. He was the master of Obi Wan's master.
This is definitely the best of the prequels, and it's STILL the only Star Wars movie with lightsaber battles basically all throughout it. And that's a good pupper!
George Lucas did it like that because he didnt have the budget to do the entire skywalker saga so he started in the middle but he did have plans for the prequel trilogy eventually...watching from release order is better than chronological cause you get all the surprises if youre new to star wars if you watch chronological the surprise isnt there cause the story itself is very linear...gotta watch the Obiwan series that takes about 10 years after 3
I like, what is now referred to as, the Machete order. IV, V, I, II, III, VI. At the end of V, you get the Anakin/Vader reveal. Then there's an extended flashback with the prequels, which brings you back to present time in VI. With the Rogue One release, I might even suggest that it's really the first movie to watch, because then the opening of IV makes sense.
The story of Darth Plagueis that Palpatine was telling to Anakin, it was a third person perspective of him slaying his master, Plagueis so you are correct in saying he looked like he was referencing himself.
There are a couple of myths why they were made in the order of release. The creator of Star Wars had the entire story written from episodes I through 6, threw in the air, closed his eyes and touched what ever was in front of him & said we'll do this one first. And the other myth story is that he didn't think anyone would want to see a movie about a kid (episode I) As for wether you watch episodes VII, VIII & IX.. DO IT this almost 65 year young Aussie highly recommend it, I got em all on DVD 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 (one for each episode)
Whereas the real reasons are either: 1. George Lucas has specifically talked about how he wanted it to be like the old serial shows from the past. He set it up so that you felt like you were jumping into the story from the middle...you didn't know everything that was going on, but it felt exciting to figure it out. 2. The technology to create the visuals of the Prequels did not exist, and he knew they couldn't push it that far yet or 3. He wasn't even planning to make the Prequels at all, until later.
Darth Plagueis was Darth Sideous' (Chancellor Palpatine's) master. Sideous killed Plagueis during Episode 1, off-screen. Plagueis never made an on-screen appearance. There is a book about him though
*Fun facts:* Grievous' lightsabers are actually from the jedi he slayed during the war. He had a whole collaction of them like he said. He also collected robes, and also padawan braids. He was known as the greatest jedi killer in the galaxy's known history after Darth Vader. Darth Plagueis was actually Palpatine's/Sidious' master, who he killed some time before the events of The Phantom Menace. The only problem was that Plagueis took his mentioned ability to his grave, so Sidious was actually bluffing when he lured Anakin in with it. The reason why Windu was able to defeat Sidious in combat, is that he was using a special lightsaber-combat style which taps into the dark side, mining under the arrogance, hatred and anger of the opponent, which led to Sidious' downfall. The cause of Vader's survival on Mustafar is due to him using the dark side of the force, by feeding himself with the hatred towards Obi-Wan. Later in his suit, in which he still suffered constant pain, this pain and hatred kept him going. More from the suit. Vader's suit is also built into his lungs, and his other vital organs, while also, constantly injecting him with painkillers. The suit is also a hella' heavy one, so it's very hard to move in it, Vader is constantly using the force to move his arms and legs. The only way he is able to take off his mask and helmet is in the chamber we see in Empire Strikes Back. Sidious had a more advanced suit made for Vader actually, but he chose not to give it to him, since tis prototype suit hindered Vader so much that he wasn't as big of a threat as he would've been in the advanced suit. Vader couldn't move his arms above his shoulders, and couldn't really turn in it, and Sidious also had a failsafe built into the suit, so it would be really vulnerable against force-lightning. Vader actually insisted on repairing his own suit whenever it was damaged, using the force to move tools, being a mechanic himself. Due to his limitations, Vader had to make up his own lightsaber-combat style, which protected the vulnerable parts of his suit, and also tricked jedi in combat. With this changed lightsaber-combat style he was a force of nature when it came to hunting jedi. He learned some from Obi-Wan's protective form, while also using his own strength and techniques to combat jedi. He also tapped into the force more, using it in physical combat, while also to taunt his opponents, tapping into their minds, making them lose focus, defeating them more easily.
The animated clone wars series that occurs between movies 2 and 3 is quite good. Also the way Yoda talks is how some ancient people's used to talk. 4-6 being first was because the special effects needed were not available in the late 70s/early 80s.
So, as far as I know, the reason why it was 4, 5, and 6 before 1, 2, and 3 was because Lucas (while writing for 5) realized that the character of Anakin Skywalker had far more potential than what one trilogy could provide. So, in 1979, he decided that instead, “Empire” was going to be #5 in the series, and that he would eventually (1994-2005) make a brand new trilogy as a prequel to the trilogy that he was currently making, which not only allowed for great twists and turns in the OT, but also strong character backstories in the Prequels.
Also I think the technology wasn’t there to show his vision of what this time period needed to be on film. This was the height of the Republic. Lucas didn’t have the money or technology to showcase the grand scale.
Not really. Lucas was told Star Wars would flop and no one would get it. So he never had any hope there would be a budget for a 2nd movie at all. He made "episode 4" (originally simply called "Star Wars") based on the idea that it would be the only SW movie ever. It was the story line that he felt would have the most mass appeal and he was still re-writing and making script changes all the way through shooting in order to have all his ideas make sense in a 2 hour run time. It was only after it's success that he had the confidence to think about how the rest of the story should be told which explains why it wasn't given the title "episode IV" until it was re-released in 1981
@@TheIronDuke9 I digress, because when empire was in theaters, it was titled "Star Wars Episode V", you know? All I gotta say is that your timeline may be a bit off. Because it would have been called episode II if it was the case you presented, would it not?
As a little girl the late 80s, when I'd watch SW, I would always think "what happened to Anakin to turn him... and I bet his final duel with Obi was incredible. " At 23, I got my chance to see it And it didn't disappoint.
@@EPICALLL0 The Empire Strikes Back was actually released with the title Episode V before the original Star Wars was re-released with the title Episode IV. SO there was about a year when the first SW movie didn't officially have an episode number and TESB did. The fact is that Star Wars A New Hope didn't get the subtitle IV added to it until after The Empire Strikes Back was already released. I guess it wasn't considered urgent because there were no video rentals at the time so if it wasn't in theatres nobody was watching it
Episode 4 was originally just called "Star Wars". When they made the sequel (Ep 5) Lucas originally wanted to call it "Star Wars - Episode II" but as they were writing it, they decided to make Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker _the same person,_ the twist was a surprise to everyone. Thinking about the backstory of how Anakin turned into Vader and had a falling out with Obiwan, Lucas realized he wanted to make a prequel trilogy one day, so he changed the name to _Star Wars: Episode 5_ knowing it would be a long time before technology would be good enough to make Eps 1-3 the way he wanted them done. So the wierd order was because they only thought of the Anakin storyline after the OG was already made, and the reason for the long wait was because Lucas wasn't happy with the limitations of the technology at the time and wanted to wait until the tech was good enough to do the Droid armies and Order 66 and all that. Lucas used his Star Wars money to pay for the invention of the CGI and digital editing that everyone takes for granted now. Thanos and Gollum were built on the backbones of what Lucasfilm did to make Jar Jar possible

🤦♂
Also, how would you do a million of the same actor, and a couple million droids without the advanced CGI we have now.
also after a new hope he told sony i think it was to fuck off and made his own studio.
It was 20th Century Fox. Basically, Fox wasn't gonna fund Star Wars, but George told them:
"if you fund this movie, I will relinquish my salary and fund part of the movie myself. i just want two things; All the rights for the story, and a share of the merchandising rights."
So yeah, possibly the biggest payout in history, considering how things turned out.@@Themrine2013

I liked the imagery of the sun setting as Anakin is waiting in the council chambers while Windu confronts the chancellor.
Seeing Padmei at her burial, looking like she is still pregnant, many people speculate that this was done intentionally to look this way in case anyone came looking, to seem as though her unborn children had died with her, preventing anyone from finding out and coming looking for Luke and Leia.
Read the novelization. Yoda ordered Padme to be made to look pregnant and say that she was killed in the Jedi temple raid

That Obi Wan & Anakin light Saber fight was just a masterpiece. The setting, the score, the stakes at hand, still gives me chills, man!!!
When Obi Wan said Darth Vader was seduced by the dark side, he wasn't talking about Padme, but by the Emperor. He gave into temptation.

"Palpatine looked like he was talking about... himself in that story!"
Astute observation man.

Luckily, everyone hated this particular device so much that it was never mentioned in a canon film again, even if Lucas stated that his own version of the sequel trilogy would have dived deep into the little lifeforms
2 Yoda’s Acrobatics
In fact, there is a lot of inconsistency between Yoda’s portrayal in the prequels in comparison to the original trilogy.
I watch all 6 every year and I always get goosebumps when Vader dawns the mask and starts breathing.
That’s a myth
Although that's not confirmed, I doubt that. George didn't like starting stories from the beginning, he liked starting in the middle. He didn't even know Leia would be Luke's sister until later on.
"Love can make you to go to the dark side"- best line ever, bro
The fight scene at the end is so epic plus the music just makes it at much better.
Episode 3 is my favorite movie in the series period. :) everything about it is phenemomenal and top class.
I'm pretty sure the first Star Wars movie was supposed to stand on it's own but was such a hit they had to do a sequel. The decision was made to just keep telling the story from that point forward. Same for Return of the Jedi. The prequels came out around 20 years later as a separate project.

What is camp four and where? Why would they bring Padme there if they want her signature? Why do they want her signature after they invaded anyway?
All these questions cover only a few nonsensical minutes of the film. I could go on.

*Hey bud, you asked why they were released in this order*
When George Lucas started writing the story back in the 1970s, he wrote a rough outline of WAY too much for one movie and so when he was trying to get money from a film studio he had to figure out what part of all of his notes he wanted to focus on, and at that point he didn't know it was going to be a success or make any money, so he was thinking about what part of all the stuff he wrote would be good in a movie by itself in case it was the only one made, and so he thought the events of episode 4 was a good place to start.

This is my absolute favorite of the prequel trilogy.

George Lucas basically picked the episode he thought that he could realistically make at the time back in the 70s. That happened to be episode 4. That being said he figured it would be a single stand alone movie at the time he made it. It did so well that it snowballed into the rest.

Yes Mr Video, saving the ones you love from dying with the Dark Side is exactly the same thing as having your chicken and mashed potatoes.
I don’t know how much of an unpopular opinion this is but this is the best star wars movie
OMG. Your dog is soooo cute!!
Ever since I started watching you I waited for you to do star wars and see this movie in particular. Great video Leo
The story of Darth Plagueis that Palpatine was telling to Anakin, it was a third person perspective of him slaying his master, Plagueis so you are correct in saying he looked like he was referencing himself.
*sees this at the top of my feed*
OH BOY I BEEN WAITIN ON DIS
Loved watching this with you bro. I was 7 when this movie came out, my pops took me to see it. I was never the same after that 🔥🔥
I was 4
I was 7 too and saw it 3 times
There are a couple of myths why they were made in the order of release.
The creator of Star Wars had the entire story written from episodes I through 6, threw in the air, closed his eyes and touched what ever was in front of him & said we'll do this one first.
And the other myth story is that he didn't think anyone would want to see a movie about a kid (episode I)
As for wether you watch episodes VII, VIII & IX.. DO IT this almost 65 year young Aussie highly recommend it, I got em all on DVD 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 (one for each episode)
Whereas the real reasons are either:
1. George Lucas has specifically talked about how he wanted it to be like the old serial shows from the past. He set it up so that you felt like you were jumping into the story from the middle...you didn't know everything that was going on, but it felt exciting to figure it out.
2. The technology to create the visuals of the Prequels did not exist, and he knew they couldn't push it that far yet
or 3. He wasn't even planning to make the Prequels at all, until later.
@@josiahferrell5022 facts, that’s how it went down. no idea where the original comment got those “myths” from. those are just false
No myths, Lucas explained everything many times.
Your reactions are the best!
Long time subscriber from your other channel dude!
So happy anytime I see you upload dude; and these Star Wars movies are always a joy to watch!
The funny thing is that anakin trying to safe padme is the reason she died. If he didnt do anything she would have survived
YES. I've been waiting on this one! Thanks for upload as always, leo!
Darth Plagueis was Darth Sideous' (Chancellor Palpatine's) master. Sideous killed Plagueis during Episode 1, off-screen. Plagueis never made an on-screen appearance. There is a book about him though
*Fun facts:*
Grievous' lightsabers are actually from the jedi he slayed during the war.
You're my favorite movie reactor keep it up 😊
The animated clone wars series that occurs between movies 2 and 3 is quite good.
At 23, I got my chance to see it
And it didn't disappoint.
I guess it wasn't considered urgent because there were no video rentals at the time so if it wasn't in theatres nobody was watching it
What a beautiful pup! Thanks for the REACITON, MR VIDEO
Damn just looked my phone. Been doing errands lmao This is one of my favorites. Saw this when I was in middle school with some classmates. First time watching any Star Wars movie ever. I knew the main plot and characters but the reveal and just everything else made me a fan!
This was by far the best one out of this trilogy.
This is my favorite prequel of all time.
