Chills about the comment about the man from the audience needing to be nicer to his son! I saw it last month with a bunch of LGBTQ kids from WV, and we loved it. We went to the Broadway museum as well and the kids were able to see how drag has always been part of theater ❤️
Billy Wilder, the director of the film, is still underappreciated. He did two of the greatest comedies - "Some Like it Hot" and "The Apartment" and some of the greatest dramas - "Sunset Boulevard," "Stalag 17," "Double Indemnity," and "The Lost Weekend." I can think of no other director with such range.
@@unclenelvis By the general public, certainly. If you ask people to name great directors, they might say Hitchcock, Spielberg, Lucas…but they would never say Wilder.
Saw this show during a NYC trip in January. Loved it. It carries the same fun screwball comedy spirit as the 1959 film, while evolving its themes to meet our modern times. The last musical number (the big chase scene with the revolving doors) is so much fun!
That last line from the movie 🎥 Some Like it Hot 🔥 is such a loaded classic! 🤣😭 The best part about it is that after watching what came before ,the punchline at the end was more hilarious 😂 than offensive to audiences from nearly 65 years ago! 🤣😭😂😘🤗🤗🎥🎥👍

I would disagree that the movie is just laughing at the idea of men in dresses, but i do love the journey they've taken with Daphne's character in the show. All the building blocks were there but having her go through a full realisation about herself is even better.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE, "SOME LIKE IT HOT!" I've Seen it Twice Already! It's soooo Funny, & this Time, a lot Cleaner, than it was on Dec. 6, 2023. (My Birthday!). 4-27-23, was an ABSOLUTELY GREAT Performance!! CONGRATULATIONS to the Entire Cast!! Band!! & Everyone Involved!!❤❤❤❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌹🌹🌹🌹🥰
Good question. The only reason I watched this was to see if anyone mentioned that first version, with music by Jule Styne. It was moderately successful, ran for about a year, received several Tony nominations, but no one is talking about it. I don't know why.
The Broadway version closed just weeks ago and it did not last. The movie has lasted and always will, showing it's THE masterpiece. Not the stupid musical
I like how the director says “it doesn’t fly now”. Much of the humor of the movie just doesn’t come across as well in modern times because it’s based on tired jokes relying on men in heels or dresses, and the only gag being that they are in the first place. It’s frustrating to go to a musical/play, and discover that any time a “cross-dressing” character enters the stage, there’s still a chorus of laughter from the audience simply for what they’re wearing. You wish we’d progressed more than that, but some audience members clearly haven’t.
I'm seeing this in NY in June but I hate to tell the director - the movie DOES still cut it and it's still as funny today as it was when I first saw it when I was six.
This report barely touched upon the gender, sexual, and racial changes of the Broadway version. It's almost as if the reporter/producers were afraid to offend the older "CBS Morning Show" demographic.
I'd say interviewing the Black actors is more than "barely touching" on it. And I'm glad they didn't reallly give away the twist. It was a great, pleasant surprise to me when I saw it.
Those states are balkanizing themselves. Until the people who live in those states stand up and banish the leaders who are leading them astray, they will become more and more separated from society and reality. It is sad. Vote blue. Every election, every race.
This totally ignores the wonderful musical SUGAR from the 70s which is far superior to this current reincarnation. It is faithful to the movie. It does have some weaknesses in the book, but what a wonderful score. SOME LIKE IT HOT had a great production, great acting & dancing. But, the score, with the exception of 1 or 2 songs, sound all the same & is very LOUD. The revised book is absurd. I'm sure this feature was an attempt to gain an audience for a failing show. Last week's gross was 62.61%. I have a feeling that the show is holding on for The Tonys.....if it doesn't well there it's gonna be bye-bye.
Wait!! They already did a musical stage version of "Some Like It Hot" a couple decades ago called "Sugar" in fact a road show version had Tony Curtis play the Osgood the millionaire part Joe E. Brown played in the movie. Why didn't the makers of this version even mention it !? Did they just take or steal and rehash someone else's idea and wave a magic wand of woke over it to call it their idea !?
Going by the description on Wikipedia and the snippets I've seen on TH-cam, with the exception of the names of the characters, this play departs totally from the original film material and into extreme Wokedom. Nee, danke je, I'll pass.

If Marilyn Monroe was still with us, she’d be almost 97 years old.

Yes, "Sugar" was an earlier musical version of "Some Like it Hot." That show and this one have nothing in common except the source material.
Would have preferred to see a revival of Jule Styne's Sugar, an underrated show that deserved a second look.
