The reason why Jasper is the best villain in this show is because she can not only point out the flaws of every main character with words, but she can also back all of that up and more in a fight. But Cartoon Network only saw her as a glorified bullying message.

Among a lot of the weaker writing points in the series, Jasper never ceases to amaze me. Pretty much every episode with Jasper ended up being amazing. She's probably the best written villain in the entire show.
That's what I've been thinking for a while. When you really think about it she's a foil for like the three main characters in Steven Universe being Steven, Garnet, and Amethyst. She's the perfect version of Amethyst, physically but doesn't have the meaningful relationships that Amethyst has. So Jasper has power, but no real friendship. In Garnet's case, Jasper forces gems to fuse with her in order to become more powerful which can hurt the gem she's fusing with in the process and even herself. Garnet is a fusion out of the love of two gems and she's able to handle that form for a long amount of time as opposed to Jasper who was able to withstand a fusion with a corrupted gem for like a few minutes at most. And in Steven's case, she's a foil to his belief that everyone can change. Jasper is the only character who didn't even change, she still remained as a gem who worshipped their diamond as other gems aren't doing anymore and still uses violence to solve an issue or for fun.
To summarize: Steven: **exists** Jasper: is this rose quartz? Jasper in Future: sure you have pink diamond's gem but idc Also Jasper in Future: **gets shattered and brought back** yes this is my diamond
Steven had to earn her respect which is not something most of the 'villain' gems did. They usually just cried when he told them he understood them. Jasper though, Jasper needed him to prove to her that he was worthy of being followed. He freaks out when she does because he was currently mess up mentally, but he seems to do that a lot with her. I mean, even when she came back in 'Alone at Sea' and begged Lapis to fuse again, Steven assumed it was bad. If he'd been in a better head space, maybe getting her respect would of transitioned a bit smoother into their future friendship.
Fun Fact: Jasper's VA, Kimberly Brooks, also voiced Hollis in Psychonauts, Bumblebee in DC Superhero girls, Chili Pepper Cookie from Cookie Run, and Spider Queen in LMK!
I must admire she stole my heart easy like she takes those corrupted gems. She's so brutal, strong, dominating, charismatic, and straight to the point. I love this type of female characters so much. 😄 I know she have good heart, but it's deep under all that muscles and rocks.

For Jasper the battle wasn't finished the way she was satisfied with and that coupled with her guilt, makes her want to get stronger and stronger. When she formed Malachite with Lapis it had been her idea and she fought after because she wanted to get revenge on 'Rose' by hurting Steven. After she and Lapis unfused, Jasper begged Lapis to fuse with her again because I guess the power made her feel better. All that plus all the poofing, corruption, bubbling and even shattering that she's gone through; she really does need a hug.
Something I like writing wise is that Jasper is one of few characters who can still be considered villains (at least at first) who acknowledges that Steven isn’t Pink Diamond/Rose. The gems that have been redeemed do so, but those who still have villainous roles don’t. Jasper acknowledges that Steven is a person unique from his mother. Yes, after their fight and dying/being revived she calls him ‘my diamond’, but even in this sense she isn’t considering him as Pink Diamond. He’s Steven Diamond to her. She acknowledges his authority without regressing on acknowledging him as a person. Kind of a minor detail in the grand scheme of things, but one I enjoyed personally
The fact that Steven’s first punch could knock Jasper back while Amethyst’s most build up attack couldn’t make her budge really says something about the diamonds’ power
Seeing her take down garnet is far more compelling cinematography but i wish we couldve seen jasper take down something bigger with that much ease but with her raw strenght, like imagine if we got to see her rip apart sugulite or something? It couldve been great

From my point of view, Jasper is a "lighter" version of Yujiro Hanma, her facial expressions, enthusiasm for fighting and the fact that she doesn't fight with the animals that live near her house just because they aren't worthy just makes me remember Yujiro, not to mention that for me, she is the best example of brute strength and combat in a gem
