if you're from california I highly recommend applying to some safety schools that are in state for financial purposes! Apply to some schools like UC Riverside, UC Merced, Humboldt, San Jose State, Chico. I'm very happy with my UO it's perfect for me as an institution in literally every way but financially. High CA cost of living really throws off the financial aide offers that you will receive out of state on top of an already higher tuition.
3.7 is pretty good gpa 26 is decent buy I have a 30 and still Will have a hard time with College applications even with a 30 ACT and 3.7 gpa. But its Not all about grades and it all depends on where you apply to.

acceptance rates are a lot lower for people who are out of state.
I always hear different things about that. Some say it's easier for OOS b/c colleges are out for that OOS tuition ... but then I also hear that it can be harder. Idk I guess it depends.

Austin Tx is not country at all, they actually don't really compare it to the rest of Texas

Austin is a huge cultural hub for music and food. It’s like it’s own little world within Texas. If you haven’t been you wouldn’t get it!

Robert Fernandez I guess I don’t really get your comparison. It has nearly 1M people in the city proper, almost double that in the immediately surrounding suburbs. Thats more people in the city proper than San Francisco, and more people in the surrounding area than the population of San Diego. Those are two huge cities. Austin is by no means small.
Melody Schnapp lol, you do know that San Francisco is 46 square miles vs Austin’s 297 square miles. Austin is not even close to being in San Francisco’s league as far as density. San Francisco’s density rank is 18,860/sq mi vs Austin’s 3,182/sq mi. So yes, Austin is a small city.

The sad thing about AP classes is that they aren't even worth it. So it saves you a few hundred dollars from not taking it in college. Also, AP absolutely does not equal to "college level". I have taken AP stats (which I failed) and APUSH (which I transferred out of). ACTUAL college level English, science, math, history, etc are a piece of cake when you do those GEs. I'm a college graduate from SJSU with a 3.5 GPA and I ended up with a major and double minor. Trust me. You'll be fine. Don't stress yourself out. My younger sister was an overachiever all her life and she is stressed out every day. She can't relax for a min. I didn't want a life like that.

Whoever is watching this, don't listen to this person. AP classes in this day and age are another way to up your game in the college admission process, and the college credit is only a nice bonus. Take AP classes if you want your school rigor to actually be competent, and ESPECIALLY if your extracurriculars are weak, because non AP/DC classes are an absolute snooze fest and college admission officers know that.
Of course, if you simply want to get into an easy to get into public school, you will most likely be fine regardless.
AP scores are actually the most important. Colleges don’t know what an A in New York is compared to an A in Georgia. However, they do know what 3s, 4s, and 5s are.
Yall please don't listen to this person, "A few hundred dollars" makes a huge difference for a lot of people AND its multiple classes sometimes. Most colleges, if you get a 5, it'll count for 2 courses. Also it helps ALOT with GPA, since and A in an AP class is counted as a 5.0. Taking AP is one of the best things you can do.

GIRLLL I literally loved watching this video because I feel like were the same exact person. My desired major is Journalism & Communications and I'm currently a writer for a website called the odyssey online!!! My dream school is university of southern California because their journalism program is AMAZING, but funny enough i'm all the way from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, near NYC!!!! San diego state is one of my choices too!!!!!! I'm only a rising high school junior but I totally hope that maybe one day I'll be at a cali school for journalism and we could meet or something one day. Loved this vid sooooo much, and even our stats are so similar and that gave me so much hope especially for san diego state because it's not at all easy to get into. thank you so much for this video, absolutely loved it and youre amazing!

Just a PSA you don’t need a really good GPA to get into college. I had not many extracurricular activities , and I did horrible on my SAT lol. I still got in somewhere , but I also went to a community college then transferred to a 4 year . Now it might be different for transfers , but you still have to try your best. Don’t worry if you think you’re not doing well enough.
Emily Michelle him I’m in the same boat. I take the SAT next week and I know I’m gonna blow it and my gpa is below average standing at a 3.2 and I did online school with no AP or IB classes or extra activities. I just did what was required. Lol I’m nervous I won’t get into any schools because I’m not even an average student.
Acoustai same for me although my gpa is a 3.8 now with ap classes, I don’t do any extracurricular activities lol. Going straight home from school is the best!!😂💙I’m nervous tho
For a GPA chaser it's not about simply getting into any university. That's not an achievement.

Fun/scary fact: most students who move to San Diego for school end up with more debt for living expenses than school related debt. It’s so expensive to live here!

Natalia Trinh I’m glad you asked this! So my cousin actually graduated from UC Davis in that major a couple years ago and he LOVED IT. The only thing I would keep in mind for USD is that their neuroscience major is slightly more psychology based rather then science based. However, USD does have many connections with local hospitals and doctors that could be beneficial in the future if that’s the route you want to take!
Congrats on making it into SDSU. I graduate from there on May 11th as an anthropology major. If you want a nice hidey hole to study in that isn't the Love Library, try the very first floor of the PSFA building, it used to be the old library and it's really air conditioned and cool in that space.

I got rejected from SDSU but accepted to UCSB, and my numbers are basically the same as yours. 4.14 weighted, GPA 1220 SAT

You and I are legit the same person! I applied to Baylor last year, got waitlisted as well. I’ve gone to Waco because of fixer upper too and fell in love. This year I’m transferring and apply to UT, and was looking into TCU! My major is also journalism and I’m so nervous cause transfer rates are so different from freshman

With your test scores and GPA, you’re going to do great and it’s clear that you have really good study habits. Please don’t underrate yourself because compared to other people, you’re definitely in the top percentile!!

Being from the Austin area, I know how difficult it can be to get into UT, especially for STEM majors. If you aren't in the top 7% of your class they probably won't even look at your application. Although Austin is super amazing, Arizona State is where I'm planning to go in the fall! Congrats on your acceptance girl! (Also, Chip and Jo are my faves)
You should have applied to Berkeley too, since you did the UC app. I know people with SAT scores below 1100 and GPAs similar to yours who got into Berkeley. They look for different stuff than the other UCs. Also, acceptance rates are very misleading because it’s different demographics applying to each of these schools.

They must have changed UT Austin's policy because in 2015 it was just two essays, so I copied my two UC essays (we only needed two back then too lol) and changed up the first and last paragraphs to fit the prompt and they took me. No letters of rec or anything.
I attend Liberty University Online and I love it! I would love to attend the Liberty University residential campus in Lynchberg, VA, but the problem is that it's soo far away and I don't really want to leave my furbabies. Yet, at the same time I want to go there. I don't know what to do :(

I know this comment is old, but yes you fill out one application for all UC schools, but each school you choose still requires individual application fees (very expensive😭)

MY UT AUSTIN APP WAS CANCELED TOO! When I called to figure out what happened they kind of said that I was the only person who couldn't figure out their system for the transcript and such so yeah the exact same thing happened to me

I’m honestly surprised with my outcome for UT, I expected to get full on denied but I got into their CAP program, I accepted meaning if I wanted sophomore year I could transfer and have guaranteed admission but idk I’m still very uncertain bc yes UT is my dream school I want to see my other options

What happens if I didnt try at all in school freshman and sophomore year in high school, but I really stepped up my game in junior year And had high grades with average sat score? Will colleges notice that I have matured and take school seriously now or will they not even bother looking past it?
