The Chosen's Paras Patel Hopes by Playing a Character with Autism He Promotes Inclusion & Acceptance

- Paras Patel joined us in the LifeMinute Studios this month. The star plays Matthew, a man on the spectrum, in the hit streaming show The Chosen, a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus, seen through the eyes of those who knew him.
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, he joined forces with Autism Speaks, the organization that helps people with autism reach their full potential. Paras says, "showcasing inclusion, as well as feeling seen and accepted and showing the community that they have a place" is what the show has communicated through his character.
Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season show shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. Season 4 premiered exclusively in theaters in February and will be available to stream later this year at TheChosen.tv or on The Chosen app. You can go there now to stream the first three seasons.
Paras does such a beautiful job portraying Matthew, and I can not imagine anyone else in that role. What a talented and incredible young man!
He is great portraying Matthew. I got hooked with the show because of his portrayal. I found it so human. That is what is so great about the show, the apostles are show as human men and we can identify with them. I do think God is using the show so we can grow closer to Him.
I met Paras at ChosenCon and he absolutely charmed me! He is a genuinely kind and caring young man, and I hope lightning strikes twice for him. Everyone loves Matthew, and Paras is the reason for that.

Paras, I am so glad you decided to portray Matthew with Austism. My son who is an adult was diagnosed with Asperger as an adult which is on the Austism spectrum. The way you show Matthew’s mannerisms is spot on. Thank you for doing this part the way you are. I can see so much of my son in the way you move and try to be apart of the community.

He is a great actor because I have an autistic grandson in a semi artistic granddaughter but the thing is is that I won't get to see Paras much because you have to get a subscription to Hulu or Disney Plus so all I have to say to the to this is I'll miss Paras and his great acting and it's all because of Dallas.

That’s all fine and good, but quite honestly it isn’t about that. The Chosen is about spreading the gospel, not spreading a message about autism.
The gospel is about accepting everyone, even people with autism
Amen. Matthew never had autism, they added it to the show which is kind of annoying because it can confuse people. The show should nerve replace the written gospels.
What are great interview I really enjoyed finding out more about the character who plays Matthew.
But I get the feeling at times some of the actors in The chosen when they are being interviewed they don't really say much about their faith in Jesus or if they really believe and trust in him and that he and he alone has changed their lives. 🙃

I have an awsome Grandson that is like your Matthew.. He is so precious, (I don't dare let him hear me say that.)
He has shown us a rare ability lately. After seeing a movie, he can tell what the action is on screen by just listening to the backgróund music. That takes some kind of rare memoriational skills I've never heard of before.
