  • Matthew was a tax collector in a city of the Roman empire.
Philip was a follower of John The Baptist (baptizer of Jesus).
In this scene from The Chosen,
Matthew and Philip are having a conversation about learning the Torah [the teachings of Moses and the Prophets from the Old Testament].

The way they portrayed Matthew as autistic is so fitting when you consider the attention to detail written in the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew truly had a gift for meticulous, descriptive detail as a writer. Especially in his summary of the Sermon on the Mount.

      This is so true 🙏☀️
As each of Jesus’ disciples present unique characteristics that relate to our personal lives, the relationship between Matthew and Jesus is so important because it highlights how Jesus magnifies our greater purpose beyond what we can see/feel within ourselves.
And to your point, with Matthew’s strong attention to detail,
the Gospel of Matthew is one of the most well-structured books in the Bible. Especially the way that he connects Jesus’ life to the Old Testament, specifically the Books of Moses, with His fulfillment of bringing the kingdom of God to earth. Also his detail to emotion. (Which makes sense towards the autistic correlation)
The Gospel of Matthew does a great job of capturing the emotions of everyone involved in the life of Jesus. Certainly with Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount, as you mentioned. But also from all the disciples, to the Pharisees and Roman leaders, to the people/families that were healed, to even the people who were just spectators of the events. We are able to visualize a full-circle view around Jesus, and how people responded to him. Both positively and negatively, as well as those who had an indifferent outlook. Which all ties well to Jesus parable of the sower and “planting a seed”.

When Philip said with Jesus Am is what matters I thought on the beginning are you kidding me? If Jesus knew me and what kind of person I am/was he wouldn't say that or Philip but in the same time something shifted inside me and I wish someone was with me or that someone would take me under his wing like Philip took Matthew and in many ways I felt and feel still like Matthew even not having spectrum but through out my life I felt like I was like Matthew in his spectrum when no one understood him and he didn't understand so many things and needed help and there wasn't any and he had to be on his own for a long time and me too, cause my Mom died when She was 31 I was 11 and 5 years later grampa died and 6 years ago my grandma died too and my dad was an alcoholic until 5 years ago and he stopped and he's trying to be better person but that doesn't mean he didn't hurt me, I was alone with everything growing up, I had to learn too many things and become and adult as 11 year old girl and then was school and since I was born I've had problems with health and I was sick every single month and I've had problems with catching up at school, and when Matthew in this scene almost cried showing Philip about being outside the circle he reminded me of myself and I almost cried too but Philip was right good for Matthew for being outside the circle and for taking care of himself and making his own world for himself and that he did and learned what he had to to survive and become person that he supposed to be to be special and chosen by Jesus. Sometimes watching episodes of the Chosen it's too personal and hurts and I feel this weird pull when I'm not religious person for so many years and I feel this call like voice : let go, let yourself be guided, let me guide you and it scares me, I have trust issues and this pull is so strong and I feel that already something shifted inside of me and I can't explain it what or how

Your strength is a gift. Thank you for sharing your story, I am sorry of you losses. The fact that you relate to the followers of Jesus says a lot. It can become exhausting being misunderstood. Being outside of that circle goes both ways. Sometimes it is necessary being alone and drawing that line so that no one can enter. You called it trust issues but it is a part of healing to purify and cleanse the soul. Expressing the emotions that are on your heart is difficult when they come from pain and grief. Sometimes you just need someone to listen without being judged by emotions or without advice being given when that is not what is needed. It’s probably not an accident that you were led to The Chosen. Your spirit is being moved. Allow this to be your invitation to introduce yourself to Jesus Christ. Whether you communicate directly using your words, or writing in your journal, or even if it is just from the emotions that are sitting on your heart that can only be expressed by tears. Jesus loves you and He is always listening 🙏☀️

      @@tonyg76 In The Chosen,
Matthew is portrayed as an intelligent character who has deficiency in immediately comprehending ingenious or metaphorical ideas that come off as paradoxical, though the meaning is simple. In result, either he, or his peers become frustrated with his comprehension.
Many of the characters in the show speak metaphorically when referring to scripture or referring to the world that they live in.
In this particular scene, when Matthew is explaining him being outside of the circle, he is implying that he feels alone in the world because he doesn’t always understand, when ironically he is the one that is misunderstood.

@@avisionthroughchrist Ok, thank you. But it is shown otherwise on the show that Matthew has Autism? Do you have to have autism not to understand these things? As someone on the Spectrum myself, I do not know these things!
