Great video Sean! Tradescantia are a lot of fun. You’re right they’re sensitive to being overwatered and leaves will crisp up when they receive too much water (making us think that they’re dehydrated and want more water). Especially the varieties with very thick succulent stems/leaves like Nanouk and the Sillamontana (the fuzzy one). The Sillamontana is a desert species, it enjoys a fast draining airy soil mix, lower humidity and drying out between waterings. They can get leggy with longer internodes if they’re not receiving enough bright light/sunlight. More light will keep the plant looking fuller with more leaves, shorter internodes. It looks like you’re doing an awesome job with your babies. ☀️🌱

I saved this video because I told myself that one day I will definitely own this beautiful plant. Low and behold, my dad recently gifted me this plant without knowing I've been wanting one and I'm so happy.
Thanks for this video! For tradescantia there are so many wrong care instructions. I found it most happy when I forgot to water it, haha. I think we can't say enough times that this plant hates to be overwatered. Most other tradescantia varieties are the same. Just got a tiny cutting of this species at a local plant nursery in Berlin and I hope it will thrive. 🌿💚
I absolutely love them and I am so happy I have found what makes them happy after loosing so many I was determined to continue buying them until I found the suitable condition. appreciate your advice so helpful for this type of plant
I got a Nanouk off the discount rack. When I first saw it I thought it was on the discount rack cuz the poor thing had obviously been dropped of his head. I took him home thinking maybe my mom could help me nurse him only to discover that he was in much worse shape than I thought. He was getting bad root rot and we had to get rid of most of the plant, but he’s now growing back very well and sharing his pot with a Zebrena actually.
My mom had bought me one from the grocery store and it just kept growing and growing, my husband walked by one day and accidently broke off a piece so I put it in a cup of water and it rooted in a couple of days! I've now taken off a couple of clippings and theyre doing amazing, the first plant ive ever had that I didn't need to look up care for ☺ I'm here today because I wasn't sure if it should be growing upward or hanging, thanks for this amazing video ❤

I'm in India I bought 3 new plants and 2 of them got root rot. I'm hoping their cuttings will survive. This video helped a lot. I didn't even know they could be propogated. Hoping for the best
@@onlyplants thank you! I had one more question. Here in India people use soil (usually clay soil) along with Coco peat and compost for indoor plants. Could the mud/clay soil be a reason for root rot? I have my plant in a mixture of clay soil, cocopeat, perlite, pumice and compost.
Hi Sean! I just got a pot of tradescantia nanouk and loving all this information from this video. Really loving the rich purple-pink on the underside of the leaves and hoping with this info from your video it will fare well under my 'care'. ❤🌱🌸
Good luck! It needs more light and less water than most people think but dont let it dry out too much. The roots are so thin they cant handle drought 😀
Thank you for sharing all of the updates! It was cool to see how the cuttings were doing over time. Also, now I am inspired to trim and replant my Tradescantia-Purple Queen!

Thank you mas Shawn, baru beli tanaman ini dan langsung nyari cara propagandain, karena beli udah rimbun dan warnaya ungu cantik.. will see for next few weeks :) seems very easy to grow
i really enjoyed this. I just bought a nanouk and had it outside in a warm climate in a southwestern exposure. i think it was getting too much bright direct light (4 hours a day) so after watching your video i put in in a more dappled area. I like your voice--very calming.
Ooo they do like a bit of direct light. One way you can tell if its not getting enough light may be losing of variegation. So keep an eye out for the color in case its in too low of a light.
I bought a tiny one with four leaves. It was in a very sandy potting mix and was very very dry. I watered it once after bringing it home and it turned to mush and died. Thanks for this video...I think I'll try again 😃
Ooo keep trying! Its a bit challenging to keep the moisture just right but thats what makes it fun. Propagated stems will adapt better to your environment
There’s not too many videos on this plant! Thanks for the awesome care tips. I was sold an over watered pot of nanouk that rotted in no time, but now I restarted with one single cutting. Fingers crossed it thrives 😁 Ps: cool wrist tattoo!!
Thank you so.much Sean! Very informative video. I love the colours of the leave. Was trying to save my plant as they not doing well. Your video came juz in time.🥰
Yay thanks for the video cos I just got my own nanouk! I am obsessed with trandescantia hehe :) that pink one at the end is T. spathacea. For my T. sillamontana, I just leave it hanging under a tree where it gets a lot of bright light. These are actually grown the same way as succulents here in the Philippines. I barely water it and just let the rain handle it and each stem is almost a foot long! I should probably propagate it like you have done here with your nanouk. So inspiring honestly cos im usually anxious when it comes to propagating my fave plants hahaha
@@onlyplants I just bought one last week and as soon as I got home I reviewed your video about Nanouk. I want to give out cuttings to friends but scared to cut some. I’ll give it more time to feel at home then, I’ll follow your instructions.

@@onlyplants OMG, my nanouk came damaged and I had to cut all of the damaged part off (lost around 3/4 of the plant). I tried your method and just put stick some stems into the soil and 2 weeks later they beginning to grow some roots 😭. So glad I remembered to watch your video again before I almost throw them out. Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏻
My wandering jews do great in CA, NorCal to be specific. Bright indirect light, grow fast and propagate quickly!
Your video just popped while I was searching information on Tradescantia. Subscribed. I gained so much confidence on propagation after watching your video. Going try the water propagation maybe on next two weeks. Will come back with the result. Thank you so much. Love your Channel.
Thank you so much, welcome to the channel. Our journey have just begun 🙌🏻
I'm in India I bought 3 new plants and 2 of them got root rot. I'm hoping their cuttings will survive. This video helped a lot. I didn't even know they could be propogated. Hoping for the best
The cuttings should take off ok 😀 they are some of the easiest plant to root
@@onlyplants thank you! I had one more question. Here in India people use soil (usually clay soil) along with Coco peat and compost for indoor plants. Could the mud/clay soil be a reason for root rot?
I have my plant in a mixture of clay soil, cocopeat, perlite, pumice and compost.
It’s a beautiful plant and I love the pink purple color! Thank you for the tips.
Beautiful Wandering Jew Plant.
The roots are so thin they cant handle drought 😀
jagok si abang sasarannya adalah orang luar negeri, sukses bang
Makasih yaaa 😀
Another of my favourites, I will leave mine till it warms up in Spring, then start propagation as it's leggy, want a nice full plant like yours.
You are the best !!! Very clear and helpful explanation
🥰
So helpful! Just bought one for 13 dollars. I hope it does well, it caught my eye immediately
Thank you for sharing all of the updates! It was cool to see how the cuttings were doing over time. Also, now I am inspired to trim and replant my Tradescantia-Purple Queen!
Μυ Tradescantia-Purple Queen is very tough always in bright light and 4-5 hours in direct sunlight
I just ordered one of these from Etsy! I am very excited to get it and see what I can do with it!
I learnt something new about the string in leca ... Thank you 😘
Just ordered one and found this video! Truly do appreciate your content and knowledge!
My first tn died on me. Now I understand why. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am going back to the nursery for a second tn.
And to be brave enough to make cuttings for continuous propagation.
BTW I have just discovered this channel and have been learning superbly from all the tutorials. All the best and sending you to your 100k subscribers soon.
Thank youuu welcome to the channel 🙌🏻
👍 I wanted to propagate mine and here you are with this great video! Thanks so much! Also, I didn't know Nanouk could revert. 👀
Thank you mas Shawn, baru beli tanaman ini dan langsung nyari cara propagandain, karena beli udah rimbun dan warnaya ungu cantik.. will see for next few weeks :) seems very easy to grow
mine is by far my fastest grower. I keep it right in front of a south window. I've recently moved it into a propagation box so I can grow it even more
Thank you, this video helped me a lot! I got my tradescantia nanouk yesterday and I love her so much!
Beautiful transcantia nanuk 💖🌸
i really enjoyed this.
@@onlyplants thank you!!!
Really nice plant , ang bilis pla mag dami.
I just got a unrooted cutting of a nanouk! Really excited to try and get it to root!
I love that you include the updates already. Keep up the great work. I looove love your videos
Thank youu
You are correct Sean.
The plant at 17.00 is a Tradescantia spathacea tricolour. Aka roheo tricolour or boat lily or Oyster plant.
There’s not too many videos on this plant! Thanks for the awesome care tips. I was sold an over watered pot of nanouk that rotted in no time, but now I restarted with one single cutting. Fingers crossed it thrives 😁
Ps: cool wrist tattoo!!
Thank you! Good luck on that cutting, hope you end up with a colony of them
I just bought this plant. Thankt for the video
wow I learned something new about this plant thank you
Thank you so.much Sean!
So inspiring honestly cos im usually anxious when it comes to propagating my fave plants hahaha
i like your video. i love seeing the results of the growth!
Awesome video. I just purchase one of these and learned a lot from the propagation content🤗
Thanks Sean! You make slow growing plants grow fast!
These guys grow like weed haha I don’t even know what to do with them and more
@@onlyplants I just bought one last week and as soon as I got home I reviewed your video about Nanouk. I want to give out cuttings to friends but scared to cut some. I’ll give it more time to feel at home then, I’ll follow your instructions.

Nice to meet you Angela and welcome to the channel! 🙌🏻
wow,i like all of your plants
🥰🥰
I just got one for Christmas so happy to learn about this beautiful plant.
Yas. Just adopted a kinda similar but a Tradescantia Fluminensis lilac. I do hope they have the same care. Thank you Sean for sharing your knowledge. ☺️ appreciate much.
Very similar care. 🙂
@@onlyplants yas! Got it just a while ago. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!! I have been looking for a video to propagate this variation and your time lapse was incredibly helpful. Again thank you!
Mine started very small (I got it as a gift almost a year ago) and it has gotten huge! I stumbled upon this video while trying to figure out how to properly do a cutting. I have never done it before but you make it look so easy and I am not nervous anymore. I learned a lot from you and I just subscribed. Thank you!!😄
Thank youuu, try both water and soil propagation. Dont worry the mama plant will branch out quickly after the cut
