    I purchased 2 potted Nanoks several weeks ago. They sit in front of my kitchen window and are thriving very well. One thing concerning the bruising on the leaves is they don't like water on theirs leaves. That's why they bruise. So, when I water them I make sure that no water touches the plants leaves. However, it is a beautiful plant. Thank you.

      I think rain water might be OK because I just recently bought this plant at an outdoor garden Centre here in Zone 5 Canada. I didnt know anything about it and planted outside into a Planter that gets morning sun until 11am. I've had it 1 month was in a 3" pot and it's already doubled in size and one stem is even working on a flower. Not a bruise to be seen on any leaves. We just had a torrential storm, I'm worried bruises might show up now though.

    Hi there, I have been growing these for a while now and you are right the more light they have the brighter the colours , also I find if you take cuttings just put them into compost instead of water they will root quicker and I find make a better plant , and your plant will send out new shoots where you have taken the cutting , great video well done regards Jeff.

      Hello! Thank you so much for the lovely comment Jeff I appreciate it. Indeed they love the extra light! That’s a great tip, I haven’t actually tried rooting in soil with this one yet 👏🏼 Hope it continues growing well for you!

    Spiderworts are, all of them are some of the most prolific and easy to propagate plants I have come across. I started some for the first time less than a month ago from wet stick cuttings I ordered from ebay. A lot of nine, I just jabbed them all together into a 6" pot of damp soil. Every one of them has now fully established and is already in need of pinching back to encourage branching to make for a fuller pot. They really are quite remarkable and pleasing on the eye as well with their leaves that sparkle in the sun.

    • @amyadwan

      Couldn’t be more true! So much so that I ended up giving this beautiful plant away - it literally grew too fast and out of control for me I couldn’t possibly have the space for it, and had cut it back too many times to count 🤣 Such a pleasure and a rewarding grower though. Indeed such special leaves too!!

    I think your Chanel deserves so much more attention. By luck I discovered your chanel because I have a pilea glauca and there was not much information on that plant on TH-cam or online that worked for me, and I’m glad I did. I’m still struggling with the plant, and actually just about lost it all, but I have just a little more than a few “plugs” left, so we will have to wait and see how that turns out. What happened was that the plant was gifted to me by my sister back in novemeber, but my conditions were very different, and it looked great and thriving at first but I completely killed the whole lot but there were just about 5 tips still remaining so I did what I could to try and keep it alive, and I’ve been trying to figure it out still. Thanks for all advice

    About a month ago I took a cutting from my big plant and added it to my collection of lechuza pon experiments that I’m playing around with at the moment. It has grown amazingly well with no awkward transition and the tiny cutting has almost filled the 4 inch pot I put it in.
    I would definitely agree with your comments about the light - my two definitely do better with more light. Better growth and more/deeper pink 😍

      @amyadwan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s so striking isn’t it 🥰 Wow I haven’t tried pon at all yet, how are you finding it? I’m only just trying out some leca experiments myself now, late to the party 😂 I love the way it fills out the pot itself 🥺 Yesss and I love the deeper pink!!

    • @katetamsyn
      @katetamsyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amyadwan I haven’t tried Leca at all, I’d give it a try but there are only so many things I can experiment with at one time!
      So far I’m actually really happy with pon, it’s really easy to manage and almost everything has been growing super well. The only thing that struggled is my maranta cuttings but they are now starting to look better so I will see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
      If pon does well, I can see that it would be a very low maintenance way of having plants but I don’t feel comfortable moving established plants over yet - so far only cuttings.

    I love my Tradescantia Nanouk also. I’m in love 🥰 but I do have a question about your white caladium in the background. I had beautiful plants last summer that I grew outside. I had many different colors. But I thought they were all dying in the fall (I brought them in before it got cold) and found out from everything I read is that they go dormant when the days get shorter. So they all died off. I know you can keep your bulbs over winter and regrow, but I have bad luck storing bulbs. So are you able to keep yours alive year round? I can see it probably isn’t as mature as mine were. They were huge filling 12” pots.

    • @amyadwan
      @amyadwan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s really a beautiful plant 😍 So last winter I did actually store the bulbs of my Caladium Red flash and planted it up in spring. The rest of my caladium I bought as bulbs earlier this year. I find that around October the red flash did look like it was dying off - leaves constantly flopped etc. I chopped it back to soil level and overwintered the bulbs, taking them out of the soil, keeping them dry and in a brown paper bag indoors. It seemed to work for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ But indeed mine are quite small compared to others!

    • @gmcris5014
      @gmcris5014 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just store my caladium in the same pot after it goes dormant. When Spring comes, I just put the pot in full sun until the first leaf pops up then move it to a brightly lit area. I never take the bulbs out of the soil.

  • @elenavidal9092

    In regards to its wandering growth...is it ok to place stakes in the pot and attached them with small clips? this will make it grow more vertically. I am currently attempting this, but not sure if it will hurt the plant. She has some bruising as you mentioned, but not much at all.
    Thoughts?

    • @amyadwan
      @amyadwan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not something I’ve ever tried with this plant but definitely give it a go! It shouldn’t hurt the plant as long as you are patient and slow with each movement, just guide it gently and give it time to adjust. This is how I approach using branches with any plants! Let me know if it works out for you 👌🏼

    How do you water it without bruising it? I've just got one. I notice that the leaves cover so much of the top of the pot that it deflects water off the leaves onto the surrounding area. Would you move the leaves or water from below?

    • @amyadwan
      @amyadwan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I just try to find a spot between the leaves, without moving them, where I can get the water in but I know that’s hard when it’s full! I usually don’t move them aside. Sticking the pot under the shower also works. You could definitely water it from bottom up as well though if you’re finding that difficult.

    I notice yours has small brown spots . Mine does well, any idea what causes them? Mine is thriving otherwise.

    • @amyadwan
      @amyadwan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed, I think I explain in the video but brown spots can be many things of course! In my case they were getting bruised from me brushing past / when watering etc. It could also be from over/under watering as well though!

    • @carolinesimon270
      @carolinesimon270 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the brown marks are caused by water being left on the leaves. I use a watering can with a long spout, so I can get below the foliage on my nanouk. If by chance I still see some droplets on the leaves I use kitchen paper to dry them. It’s the same for the tradescantia zebrina which I also have, don’t leave any water on the leaves and the plants will maintain their beauty 😀

    How did you get yours to trail down? Or after some time do the upright stems get weighted down? I got it to be somewhat of a trailer plant, but mine is sticking upright. I thought it was the lighting, but its not leggy its lush and I even placed a grow light underneath it. Its healthy, but its staying upright....

    • @amyadwan
      @amyadwan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I’m not too sure with this one! I would assume it’s something to do with the light as I do find mine will grow towards the strongest light source. I didn’t try to arrange mine in any way and yes over time it just started growing over the pot, which is quite tall now. It has since been moved below a window and is now growing more vertically? So I would suggest playing with where the light source is strongest if you haven’t done that already 🤞🏼

      I have my Tradescantia on a wide shallow pot. I make new cuttings root sideways, then make them trail in that direction. Problem is they reeeeally enjoy that and you'll soon have a web of stems in growing season so if you want it to look good you need to check it out every couple of weels and cut where you see it starting to get messy haha.

      I can't get mine to grow upright! It's constantly reaching out and down. I didn't know there WAS an upright habit!
      The Nanook are endless trouble for me. 😩

    The Tradescantia Nanouk has become my all-time favorite plant. It seems very hardy and it's a fast grower.
    May I mention that you are pronouncing tradescantia incorrectly ...tia is pronounced ...chia
