Great content mate.. just received my sunburst rosewood today, work gets in the way but cannot wait to put it through the paces at the weekend.. even more after this
Got mine on Thursday, had a few issues nut was poorly cut, removed the string tree for a Tusq as there was all sorts of plinking when tuning. Also had to shim the neck as the bridge saddles were like razors when I lowered the action. After some research on Fender the pickups are the same as the series 1 apparently.
Ah! That makes sense why I liked them so much - I do love the original player set. Sorry to hear about your issues mate, but glad you're sticking with it and getting them sorted 👍
Great unboxing Steve. Stringwise I like 10-46 on Strats & Gibsons. My Gretsch semi hollow really suits 11-48 and on my Epi J45 (with a Gibson scale length) I have 13s as when I'm gigging I need heavier strings when I'm getting dug in and singing too.
The Fender Player Series was great I got one a few years back for about £500 but now the price is a little much for me personally if you can afford them they are great guitars 👍🤘
Personally I still prefer to mod the cheaper alternatives. But... Gotta admit, the player series was a great move by Fender as a revamp to the old MIM standard series. The players were "almost" the same specs as the old USA standards, now that the player 2's have rolled fretboard edges, the only difference between them and the old USA's is the string tree and nut.
@@stevecassidyguitar as I said yeah they are great the one I have I got a few years back is I'd say almost as good as any proper Fender USA model outside of the custom shop stuff but prices at the minute are ridiculous Epiphone is a perfect example of crazy prices🙄🤬If you like Strats and rolled edges try the Sire S7 they are about £300 odd cheaper than the player series and just as good there's an S3 as well with rosewood fretboard but I'm not sure off the top of my head they have rolled fingerboard edges 👍🤘
@@markproctor3100 Good shout on The Sire mate - Yeah I believe they might even have some kind of patent pending on thier specific rolled fretboards? 🤷♂ Always hear great stuff about them, If I ever get an oppertunity to try one, I most certainly will. - Cheers 😀👍
Great demo/unboxing. I got a Fender Player Series Lead II during lockdown, and it was absolutely ace, except for a wee tooling mark on the headstock, which I evened out with some 2000 grit sandpaper.

One of the great things about having more than one guitar is that it can refresh love of your guitar stock. So my vote is: do as many reviews as you can Steve. They all go into the mix
@@Alan-zf2tt Funny you shold mention, Kenny's had 2 Duesnebergs in on consignment the other day. I think that's the first time I've seen one (or 2) in the flesh (or wood)!

I tended to stick to SSS guitars. I don't really know why - but S-type neck pick-ups and soul music are so damn cool. On the few occasions when I had an HH S-type man I loved both types equally as much. Looking forward to Duesy's reviews ...
@@Alan-zf2tt I don't know If i'll mabnage to get the Duesenbergs 😬 Also kinda swamped with Guitars atm - I've got more than I can handle 😅👍 Certainly not complaining tho
I just cant figure out why Fender hasn't got rid of the butterfly string tree and just use them on their vintage reissues, there are much better designs out there, of course Fender would design their own modern string tree, Get On With It Fender! I also like the 9.5" radius, I also like the 7.25" radius too, it makes for even easier chords and you can get wild bends on the G string without fretting out. In the '80s flatter fretboards were all the fashion, I just couldn't get on with them though, the largest radius guitar fretboard I now have is a 12", they took some getting used to for me but they have their advantages and disadvantages, like any radius I guess.
I know mate, it's probably one of the cheapest parts to change too. It would probably only cost them pennies to change it. The tree they used on the old USA Standards would be a massive improvement, people (like You & I 😂) would stop complaining, and that ones not even the best tree either, but way better than the butterfly without a riser 👎
By the way the player strat pickups are the same as the original players strat! I use the tone control on my strat neck pickup when playing through my Marshall on the crunch or clean channel however with gain it's all the way up😅
@@stevecassidyguitar I have the players strat with pau ferro and when I turn down the tone for the neck pickup it's instantly Hendrix through my Marshall
@stevecassidyguitar I didn't take it as a judgement😁. I liked your sense of Scottish humour and liked your review. I also like the player pickups. I play pretty much everything with those sss pickup configuration from Hendrix, ac dc to black Sabbath. Hello from Australia
Congrats on getting a kind of sponsorship from your local music shop. A new guitar unboxing is always fun. That Strat is out of my price range...for now. Sheesh, I'd have to sell at least 3 to get 1 like this and I don't relish that at all. Deep dive and a comparison/shootout with a Jet. (Hint: Use old footage of the Jet and play the same thingto save time. You always play something interesting.)
Thank ya kindly mate! Couldn't have landed a more fitting partner - I'm over the moon! 😀👍 Great shout about the old clips. Onltyproblem is I never take a note of the settings I used - So i'll have to start over to make it a proper comparison 🙈 Lessons learned as always 😜
Okay I'm loving the new Fender Stratocaster Player 2 series. Would love to see a review on the Yellow HSS Stratocaster. I think it is my favorite of the new Fender Player 2 Stratocaster's. Time to start saving for a new Fender.🎸🤘🏻
I love that rosewood is back as fretboard on fender guitars again, and that they try to roll the fretboard edges. But I can’t for the life of me understand why they don’t do something about that old neck joint… and yeah, the bridge pickup should have a tone control. Nice unboxing, mate 👍
Thank ya kindly mate 😃 I have a suspicion we'll see an improved neck heel on the player plus series when that gets revamped. Probably still won't be as sculpted as the Jet tho 😜
My favourite guitar in my favourite colour. Gimme it! On a more serious note, are you planning to do any upgrades to it? I've been wanting to install a Vega-Trem on my Player Series Strat.
Nice mate 😁👍 I'm not a big fan of red guitars, but this one is quite a nice shade 😎👍 I can't mod this one though - it's not mine, I just have it on loan from a store. But I've heard great things about the Vega trems, I'd love to try one out but they're a bit pricey for me atm 😬 Maybe they're worth it though 🤷♂️
Love the rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges and vintage-style tuners! The only thing that would make it better for me is if there was a Telecaster at the other end! 🤪
Sound controls a name from the past! They took over from play it again sams in derby when i were a yoof :) if i remember right they had a decent one in notts too across from the ice arena... simpler times ;) For a strat that dont look half bad, if i wanted fender on the headstock mexican would certainly be my route as the usa stuff really doesnt offer much more for a ton of cash. Great vid as always sir :) Prefered gauge across everything is 9-46, best of both worlds ;)
I was surprised to learn a couple of months ago that Sound Control were UK wide, I thought it was just a small scottish operation. Glad they're well remembered elsewhere too 😀👍 Agree Re MIM. The player 2 is now almost identica specs to the old USA Standard now, the only differences i can think of are the string tree and nut and it's made in the factory "across the road" now 😜. I'll need to revisit 9-46 cheers 😀👍
I feel you on the acceptable amount of buzzing - on both my Jag and Jazz Bass they have a bit of that because i feel for the scutty alt rock those instruments are good at it helps. Generally I want it to sound a little buzzy when I dig in hard but be mostly clean otherwise.
Ah Nice one mate! Great to hear from a fellow Dundonian 😀👍 They have that Brich green Tele in stock in Kenny's. IF they still have it in a couple of weeks (I doubt it) I'll see if I can get another loan 😁👍
Yeah the SSS strat keeps the same identical Player series pups. No change. Tele same. The Humbicker might have gotten a change but I think it's just the Jag and mustang etc got new P90s and Singles. Andersons mixed that up. Lol
I was curious as I use a loaded guard player series in my classic vibe 60s. 2015 3tone sb. It has nice rolled rosewood too over the amber poly maple neck. Alder body. That seems to upset some cork sniffers. Not me. Lol. I LOVE IT. My mim fender FSR Gilmour black strat *Light lol I need to roll but I do want taller frets on it.
@@robertclarkguitar I emailed Fender about it this morning... See if I get a response 🤷♂️🤞 But yeah I think if the pickups were new, there would be more fanfare about it 👍
@stevecassidyguitar Yeah I watched the fender video. They mentioned it. But that's all I remember. The Single coils remained same on strat and tele. The rest I'm not sure. Lol. Yeah bro love the videos my friend. Congrats on the growth too!!!!!

I actually prefer 11s, I guess that's where we disagree with feel lol. That's mostly because I like to tune up and down though and 11s are the acceptable "Middle ground" for that. I think it's largely after I started playing bass that i preferred bigger strings. I'll have to try 9s sometime though on a dedicated standard tuning guitar.
My gauge, D'Addario NYXL 11-52 for my Strats and Teles or another brand (old school Electro Harmonix nickel strings, D'Addario XL, or String Joys... they all play and feel good and slightly different). Sames here! They didn't have a maple board version in stock - If they did you could bet I woulda grabbed that one! 😁👍 £685 from Kennys, which is oddly cheaper than some of the original player series 😀👍
I've got a set of Rotosound Pinks here I'm yet to try! I'll try and get a hold of the Jag if they've not sold it by the time I return this one (Very unlikely tho 😬)
I think some of the models are available now and others are out in October. I'd image US would be the same? but not sure. They have this strat a tele and a jag in my local retailer (Kennys music in Dundee Scotland) available to purchase now.
Yeah mate - Looking forward to exploring the pickups more - quite impressed so far 👍 I wish i had the grip strength for the heavier gauges - good on ya mate! 💪😀
I feel like having aged covers with a white pickguard or vice versa can help a lot with visibility and helping the look of the guitar "pop" but this is definitely too much. Just slightly off white, or maybe go nuts and do them black.
Oh yeah mate - your in the top 10 weirdo pile along with myself of course 😜👍. They do have an in house tech - I use him all the time. I'll find out if it was seen to before the full review. No idea at this point
@@stevecassidyguitar Thank you for checking with the store Steve. I wish to get a feel for how much of the fret buzz is caused by the truss rod and/or saddles needing adjustment versus how much is due to the frets not being level.

Yup, nothing mind blowing here 😜 But... they're only a string tree and nut material away, from having the Player series be the exact same specs as the old USA Standard series. Even the pickups are "rumoured" to be the same (ask Phil McKNight 😜)
Sweet Coral Red Player II Strat! Too bad they stuck with the blocky heel or I might be tempted for a Birch Green Tele. I have a original Player Series Lead II (two Strat pups) and the stock pickups are pretty anemic, swapped the bridge to a SD Twangbanger, probably swap neck too at some point. If these Player II single coils are a bit hotter that's good news. The Vintage (split) tuners are the best. And I prefer 9-42 as well.

@@jimmyjames2022 Yeah mate - defo check one out - see if it's for you 👍 While I'm here an update to youir first comment - some people are saying the pickups are the same as the original player series. I might have to email Fender directly to find out for sure👍
Good idea sir 👍 Personally I'm not a big fan of the rosewood variants, (including rosewood and Pau Ferro) and I think comparing fretboard material/feel might be difficult to put into words, and a personal preference🤔 Leave that one with me mate 😀👍
@@stevecassidyguitar A few months ago, I tested a Player with a pau ferro fingerboard in the store. I have never seen such a hard and clumsy fingerboard from Fender. There was no pleasure in bending the strings and finger vibrato. And then they gave me Player Plus costing $500 more. And I felt like I was holding a Fender in my hand, finally. Interestingly, they also gave me the Classic Vibe, which is, as you know, much cheaper. And there is no comparison at all - the CV beat this Player also, and it was also lighter. So if this Player II is just as crap as the first series, then I give up.
Guitar World and MusicRadar reviewed a Strat and a Tele. They each had issues with the nut on one of the guitars. One of them had issues with the Tele, the other with the Strat. I don't get it. How hard can it be to cut the nut right? I mean, a lot of other manufacturers do it better.
@@stevecassidyguitar Seems to be happening too much for it to be just a fluke. QC on the nut seems to be... Not great. Hopefully there aren't any bigger or other issues.

Took a chance on ordering one after watching the reveiw you did on that. Now these are released and now I'm thinking balls, should have waited!! Mind you, it is double the price of the HB.
Nice score on the ST modern mate! I hope you get a good one with the B Stock 😀🤞 If you prefer the sculpted heel joints, I think HB will be a better choice for you. and specwise... The HB absolutely smashes the Player 2. But I do prefer the neck profile and pickups on the St Modern 👍
@stevecassidyguitar fingers definitely crossed but never had an issue with B stock Bentons so far so hoping for the best. If its a keeper I may look at sticking some Tonerider pickups in if needed. They're fairly cheap but pretty good and would still be under the price of the Player 2.
When the heck will ANY guitar brand think to make a side opening on these boxes so we won’t all look like clumsy fools trying to get the guitar out of the box?! I mean, imagine what poor bass player must look like if we look pretty darn clumsy! 🤣🤣🤣 Hey guitar brands, novel design idea: SIDE BOX OPENINGS PLEASE! Thanks to Kenny’s for helping this clumsy unboxer out with the guitar!
Steve can we have a episode on the fender style tremolo bridge....they all should work ,either light or heavy blocks its physics .But not explained when a beginner buys a strat style ,stock strings are shite, agreed.if after new strings that are strectched if its sharp nuts binding, flat more tension on trem claw, and dont forget a 4mm ball bearing and a trem arm tension spring then youre trem bar( yes there are real)it wont feel slack alice x when you used to buy a fender there was a silver foil sticker ,holding in a 4mm ball bearing and spring .aye be true as irn-bru .
I knew about the spring - But not the ball bearing, but that does make loads of sense to have one in there 😎👍 Not an ideal design tho 😬 Easy to lose etc. The Fender trem/vibrato is far from my favourite - I lioke the Gotoh 510 for a 2 point, but yeah, that's probably less than half the battle, it's all about the nut and string tree imo

At this price point you could buy a Jet JS600 with a better spec and have plenty of change towards another one. No way are Fender guitars with such a low end spec worth the asking price. I would have to change the neck and all the aged plastics which makes no sense for me.
I hear ya, I'd probably still go Jet JS400 with the same mods I did before. Might have to see if I can source a set of these pickups though 😁 Luckily, loads of people will buy these and swap pickups straight away - so I'll be keeping an eye out for a used set 🤓👍

Apparently the pickups are the same as on the original player series. I'm the same as you when it comes to Fender. I would rather buy a Jet Js 400 at £189 and spend the £500 change upgrading the electronics, switch, jack, set of locking tuners, bridge saddles, set of my favourite pups(57/62's). You would then have a guitar on the same level as a pro 2. Would actually be better than a pro 2 due to the locking tuners, roasted neck, better heel joint and the spoon cut on the back of the body. What do you think pal. Player 2 or a Jet and 500 buck to upgrade it??

It befuddles me that fender doesn’t package their instruments better and that they don’t come with cases or even bags. I also wish they would start adopting their modern features to affordable guitars. Every other brand is making the same thing with better prices. Even within their own house (I.e., Jackson, not that I’m a fan boy of Jackson, but they have great guitars at all levels). I love the new ultra’s but they’re so expensive. What makes them so awesome could totally be adopted all the way down. Ibanez and Cort have most the same or similar features on sub $400 guitars. As far as pua Farrell or rose wood who cares! Also anyone can roll their own fretboards and round their fret ends, all parts of an initial set up. But then again I saw a guy return a new guitar the other day while in guitar center because string action was higher on one string vs another. The guys behind the counter were like “Oh, no problem. I can throw it on the bench and fix that for you if you’d like?” and he was like “ah no Id feel better with a new one without these problems,” and they where like “Cool, no problem” 🤯🤯🤯.
Wow! Even I can adjust string height! 😂 But I wouldn't be too keen to roll the fretboard edges on a Maple fretboard without making a mess 😂🙈 I think the difference with Fender compared to Jackson/Cort is they use the Squier sub-brand for the lower tier stuff, I think the Contemporary and Paranormal series are probably the most interesting stuff that "Fender" puts out. Often with more modern appointments too. But Yeah, I'm all for going for something like a Jet or Harley Benton and giving it some big upgrades 😁👍

@@derekjohnson5720 I've heard rumours they're might be a line of Jets coming out with Dimarzio's but I doubt they'll be £450. I'd guess they might be around £650 (just pulled that number out of nowhere - I have no idea 🤷♂)
Awesome Cheers Steve. Now do you hate the English and want them to lose? 😅
Not at all mate - But I don't love football anyway 😜👍 Not even 100% sure who's in the final 🤷♂️
I’ll stick to my fender strat 1 with custom shop pick ups and roasted maple fret board I won in ggg giveaway
I have 9s on my Strat sss, Strat ssh 10,s, and epiphone 10,s and my Ibanez has 9,s
Awesome! Lucky you! Congrats! 🥳👌
So yuo're another one!? I need to get in on this - I hear about people winning these things all the time! 😀
That actually sound like the same specs as my Usa strat 😀👍
@@stevecassidyguitarit's a Guitar Guitar limited edition plays like butter olympic white and tortoiseshell pickguard it's badass. It was £899 not bad for 1 £8.99 ticket 🎉😊
@@stevecassidyguitar😂 I received a win on guitar marketplace today won a squire çlassic vibe Thinline Tele on an instant win 🎉
Still had price on £425 😂 scored spent £10 on 10 tickets even came with a decent padded bag. Some type of Brown wood and looks like roasted maple fretboard and either vintage or locking tuners I'm not sure.
@@RebeccaHindle Brilliant! Well done to ya!
@@RebeccaHindle What's going on here!? 🤯 How do I get in on this? 😂
Congrats! ... Again! 😂👍 2 awesome guitars!
What English version you speak here?
Apologies mate - This is a Scottish accent. I'm Scottish. We have a reputation as talking very fast, it doesn't help I was a bit excited over the unboxing too 🙈
@@stevecassidyguitar
Salute to Scotland, then. It sounds a little strange to me but that how it goes 🙂
@@Robert_Fordin No worries mate - It's specifically a "Dundonian" accent from Dundee in Scotland. All the Scottish accents are a bit different 😜
Seems like a nice guitar, but besides the Fender name and accompanying resale value, you get as much or more from HB, Jet, Michael Kelly, Sire, for 1/2 the price or even less.
Yeah mate that's it. I do love Fender single coil pickups though. That's why I like to put them in the Jet's etc. Win/Win
@@stevecassidyguitar How did you think the HB Tesla pickups sounded in comparison? Everyone I have watched seems to really like them. Just curious on your thoughts.
@@wlkalong I don't love the Teslas 😬 Nothing "wrong" with them, I just prefer a lower output more vintage voiced pickup. The Teslas are not bright enough for me, but they do take distortion very well - great for a more modern sound and If you like to play with drive/distortion. The clean sound is more important to me 👍
@@stevecassidyguitar Ahh, thanks. So much of tone is subjective. I think you have it right, find great pickups, then put them in a well made, comfortable to play, reasonably priced, yet high quality guitar. You save money and get exactly what you want. If I was in Scotland I would buy you a beer. Cheers mate.
@@wlkalong Ha! Cheers mate! 🍻
Oh and yes I do roll the tone down on my neck pick up… and I too love the bridge especially with distortion.😂
Wow! Even I can adjust string height! 😂 But I wouldn't be too keen to roll the fretboard edges on a Maple fretboard without making a mess 😂🙈
I think the difference with Fender compared to Jackson/Cort is they use the Squier sub-brand for the lower tier stuff, I think the Contemporary and Paranormal series are probably the most interesting stuff that "Fender" puts out. Often with more modern appointments too.
But Yeah, I'm all for going for something like a Jet or Harley Benton and giving it some big upgrades 😁👍
So it's you they wire it like that for! 😂😜👍
Jet JS400 vs Player II? No matter how expensive the Fender is still a basic simple S design.
Great shout mate! 😀👍 It makes all the sense in the world to make that vid, as my Jet VS PLayer 1 vid has been the best performer on the channel. But I'd need a stock Jet JS 300 to compare SSS to SSS, or an HSS Fender player 2 to compare to a JS400
What I get from this is,,,,,,,it’s ok.
But it about twice the price of a Jet, which you seem to love, and, as my mate says, “I just love playing it. Canna stop picking it up!”
I’m not keen on the colours of these. Bland.
It's more than 3x the price of a Jet JS400. But yeah I can't get too excited about a guitar with a Rosewwod fretboard and I don't love this colour either. Maple fretboard and HSS, is more my cuppa tea, But I just took the only strat they had available 😜👍
@@stevecassidyguitar just think everyone else raised their games, locking tuners, roasted maple necks, belly carves on teles’, ergonomic heel joints, and Fender stick with the same old same old. For 3 times the price.
Suppose, resale will be the thing.
Is this French? Or Swiss German?
It's a bit of a Mix, My Mother is from Gotham City and My Father is from Atlantis
@@stevecassidyguitar Hahahaha :D. Nice video! I wish they did some Nitro to these models some day, to the MeX line, but it's ok... Guitar looks good from here. Hope you liked it... Cheers!
Are you going to keep the fender and sell your rubbish cheaper guitars , you spend so much money upgrading them , your a gigging musician so you should just have 2 of those Fender Players . Buy a high end amp , I got a few expensive amps , I will send you a 50w Tone King amp to play .
I really like your channel , your honest , your fashion style is odd , do your glasses have lenses in them or you just wear the frames ??
Your channel is amazing and your a cool dude, thank you God your not English .
😂👌 Thank ya kindly mate 🙏.
I have a 2004 USA Fender standard strat, (that I've upgraded a bit) I've barely touched it in almost 2 years, It's not as good as my upgraded Jet imo 🤷♂️. I used to gig an all valve Laney TT100 2x12 combo, sounded fantasic but weighed a ton. I'm more than happy gigging with the HX stomp XL these days as my entire rig. Not only is it lighter, but playing in a 6 piece band in small venues it makes more sense to be ampless. The wedding we played last night, we had to have the drummer on the floor at the front as there wasn't enough space for him and his kit on the "stage" 🙈 No way I could have fit an amp on there too.
Yeah - No lenses in the glasses, it's a looong story - I promise it's not as stupid as you'd think, but this response is already too long, you're probably not even reading this bit 😂👍
@@Alpha69-cf9wm My Harley Benton St-62 is pretty good playing. I love it as well, its for €150 with little upgrades.
Fender re inventing there player series guitars yet again 😳Personaly I doubt it will work 👎🍺
This is just the 2nd incarnation of the Player series I think. I won't be buying one, but I'm sure they will sell loads, people gotta have the new Fender 😜
Underwhelming 😂
To be fair, it's actually better than I expected - But expectations were quite low 😂
Yes I am weird but, I don't see what my religion has to do with guitars....
😂👍 Pretty much everything!

Have you tried Sires?
@@jamestejada3673 I have a Sire Marcus Miller V7 (5 string Jazz) Bass. I love it - Quality is top notch, but I'm yet to try out a guitar. It will have to happen at some point! 😂
@stevecassidyguitar I have a discontinued Sire M3 that had problems with the neck when I bought it.I spent 100.00 getting the neck fixeð.I retrospect I should have returned it and bought a Cort C4 plus at a later time.
