    No Left handed basses is a massive L. Bad enough we get left out of other product lines, but they just couldn't resist gutting the line that actually gave us some options. Really wanted a lefty offset (JM), and a lefty mustang bass. Wouldn't care if they only offered them in the standard black. But nah, Fender just has to shaft us more than usual even though other companies much smaller can somehow make different left hand models.

    I think that sometimes people make a change in order to keep themselves motivated to keep playing and practicing. We like trying something new and shiny. I guess the secret is to know what gear you are truly attached to and hang onto it. I like the honest no nonsense approach of this channel. 🎸👍🙂

    You've already bought that guitar in your mind, Shane. Just throw down the cash for it before it's gone.
    My biggest regrets are not what I sold, but what I didn't buy when I had the chance.
    One of which was a PRS SE 277 semi-hollow with the soapbars. I saw a gorgeous one at the guitar shop one day. The most beautiful tight flame maple I've ever seen and the color was perfect. I sat on it for one night, went back to get it the next day and it had sold 10 minutes before I got there. I ended up buying a used one a few months ago, but it's not even close to that one I saw. There's some lucky person out there with it. I should have bought that first one the moment I saw it.

      I am really bothered by sharp fretboard edges, I’ve tried and not bonded with 3-4 Mexican fenders. I guess I’m cursed by having started out with a well worn heritage from the 80s.
      I finally talked myself into a rosewood board so I can roll it myself if I don’t like the feel, and had actually just bought a Jimmy Page mirror tele off reverb the day before the player II series was announced or I’d probably have driven an hour to the guitar stores today to try out a player 2 if they’re in store yet. I can’t wait to get my hands on my new guitar, but I’ll probably still want to try out a player 2 one of these days.

    I think you’re right about modeling. Because what they are trying to do is copy tube amps, they’re at the point where the processing has gotten as perfect as it can get, or very close to it.
    Yeah, people can hear the difference, but the difference at this point is really in the physical amplification, not the modeling. It sounds different because it’s coming out of the PA, and not the guitar cab, etc.
    The differences going forward are going to be how much stuff you can put in the chain, unit size, and user interface…

    I once sold a TS808 to a good friend, but asked to buy ut back from him a year later. Luckily he agreed, and twenty-five years later I still have it. Many more things I've sold then regretted doing so, but was unable to buy back, ir even buy another of the same type. A beautiful Les Paul deluxe, a Vox AC30 STR (head), a Marshall JCM 800 channel switching head with reverb, and an early sixties rosewood neck white strat, which I traded for a Les Paul custom that was in pieces, that once I finished having it rebuilt was disappointing in tone. The list goes on. Most times I sold something in order to buy something else, then found the original item too expensive to replace. Talk about seller's regret!

    The left-hand player 2 series look great until you realise that out of 3 choices of colours 2 are regurgitated colours from the last player series in the white and sunburst and then just one other colour. Waited years for an update and this is all we get unless you've deep pockets. Fender dont care at all for left handed players.

    I agree. TH-cam is getting pretty watered down this last year. I think your hard-core followers are still gonna tune in for the angle you take on budget gear. The reality is, that most of us live in a budget friendly world. We appreciate the realistic approach you have. Watching kids demo guitars they can't possibly afford, won't EVER change what real players want. Real players mostly just want function over form. If it's great to play, feel and tone wise. That should be paramount.
    Recently bought my first 6pt. full floating tremelo equipped guitar. Has a skinny neck and everything! NF3. It's a very well spec'd and constructed guitar. Definitely trying some new stuff.
    Only guitar I can think of that I'd buy another after selling. SG Modern. Now I have a Revstar. End of story.

    Thinking about the guitar that you might re-buy: I think you mentioned that this was your first guitar, and this rang a bell with me: could this just be a case of nostalgia, and perhaps curiosity? I went through a similar thing. Early in my playing career I had a Gibson S1 (some say Marauder), and I remember liking it but wanting something better: eventually I sold it. A while back, some 50 yrs later, I started thinking that I wanted to get one again, partly to see how good it was. It's hard to find one under £1500, so I decided to forget about it: apparently they only made 8000.

    Fender, in 2016 moved all their manufacturing equipment from the Corona plant to Ensenada and got all new machines. That's why the Pro and elite lines were terrible and the MIMs improved. 8 years later both sites have finally learned how to use their machines. Thus the Ultra Luxe and Player II.

    Hey, Shane! About the modeleres, I agree with you. Sound wise I think that most sound almost the same. The IRs in the units make the difference, and if they have an IR loader and you use it with your own IRs they may sound the exact same.
    I think it comes down to the options the unit provides in terms of I/O, software features (like snapshots in Line 6 land), the effects you want, and how complex you want your signal chains. But not on the sound of the unit, IMO. The models the companies capture usually vary a bit in EQ sensitivity and gain structure. But, tbh, you can really make them sound the same by tweaking the knobs 🤷🏽‍♂️
    Glad to see you here, again!

    Modeling has peaked IMHO. Once Line 6 Helix came out.... The modelers got good enough to no longer sound different then amps.. They're pretty spot on. In fact.. I bet most people can't tell the difference when listening to the playback.
    Once a thing is functionally in place.. And works and sounds good... What to make it better?
    You know what Ive noticed.. Sometimes gear sits because I just don't know how to use it right.
    Case and point Im now finally good enough to play past the 12th fret. Once that happened... I realized many of my guitars weren't even intonated. So now there's guitars I thought I hated but were just not setup.

    • @BluesDeville
      @BluesDeville 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I do agree. Modeling has come a long way.
      I used a POD XT for years and thought it was great until I plugged back into a tube amp and realized how flat and digital that POD XT sounded. I stayed away from modelers for years after that. But, after hearing the latest in modelers, it's audibly impossuble for an audience to tell the difference.
      However... As a player, I still get a better feel and vibe from tube amps and their natural characteristics such as sag (compression) and natural overdrive at higher volumes that I still don't get from modelers.
      Would I tour with a modeler? Absolutely. But, when I'm the player and the only audience member in the room, I'll take a tube amp any day.

    • @petersouthwell5971
      @petersouthwell5971 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BluesDeville I have a Fender Hotrod Deluxe 60w tube. Honestly it's the standard for me and that amp isn't going anywhere.
      Basically I take my Line 6 Helix and make it sound as close as possible to my one tube amp. I like Tubes too.
      Not sure if it's because Im comforted by them or they actually sound better.
      I guess what keeps me on line 6.. Is Im paranoid of blowing a tube and loosing my sound. Rember 2020 or some time around there when tubes were almost impossible to find? That freaked me out a bit. So I went looking for an acceptable solid state.. Just incase.

    • @petersouthwell5971
      @petersouthwell5971 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ill admit that I consider Line 6 Helix an acceptable substitute for an Amp... But I agree that tubes seem to have a certain dynamics to them. I also like how tubes clean up when you turn your guitar volume down. Line 6 isn't as smooth in its dynamics..
      Now strength of Line 6 is it's reliable. It's always going to sound the same.
      Ive had days that my tube amp sounded so good it was outrageous... For whatever reason.. but I wasn't able to reproduce it.

      Agreed on all of your points. I will eventually buy another modeler for the reasons you stated to have one.
      Also... Those days where your tube amps sounds amazing and other days not so much. I have those days, too. It's kind of those dynamics that I love about tube amps. Same reason I like germanium fuzzes. Their dynamics can change and my playing vibe kind of changes with them.

    Other channels will do too many straight reviews and they review everything. The best practice, I think is to do follow ups and comparisons, reviewing products people ask about or suit you... you do all these things and more. Stands out above the noise. Anyway I'm thinking I might try to get s player Jaguar while they're cheaper now used. The player ii feels like a step up, but the previous iteration is a real good used value the past couple years

    I saw the “upgrades” in features for the new Player II. Not feeling it other than colors. Now bring in locking tuners, roasted maple necks, and stainless steel frets….. then you’ll have a real upgrade.

    It may be worth revisiting the Fender TMP.... The upgraded software seems to have made the unit much better from the reviews I have seen, however, I haven't used the unit myself, so I'm just going on other peoples opinions.

    Fender Player 2s are nice guitars! Then again, I bought a MIM standard Fat Strat from a guy in a band called Green Ripper for $400. As far as recycling gear, well, I had an Ibanez RG470 MIK I sold. Always wanted another RG. Eventually added an RG-something with a Aqua Blue sparkle finish and Double-Locking trem. And I also added an RG with a Dragon-Eye stained flame maple arch top and a fixed bridge. Both amazing instruments and super sweet. Feel more like an upgrade than a replacement. That old MIK RG I had was beat up. These are almost new condition.

    I don't buy things that were sold UNLESS the thing was sold because I needed money. Then it would be OK to do so.
    I still don't like digital IR sounds with one exception so far. The new UA pedals that sound like amps are really great on internet videos. I would like to try one in person. Yet for the same or less money, the Simplifier X amp pedal has two analog preamp channels that sound great.
    In the video you said that if a guitar feels great to play it is good. You also said that you had other guitars that sounded better. Certainly you've got guitars at home now that feel great to play and sound good. So why do you feel that you need another one? I don't know how many guitars you have now, but I'm sure it's more than three.
    I've never seen you more complimentary to an amp that you were testing than the Joyo Sweet Baby. You have praised the Peavey Bandit many times too, but not with the same enthusiasm of the Sweet Baby. I suppose you didn't keep it. If I ever live in a place where I can play loud, I'll be getting a Sweet Baby amp. For now I play using headphones or no amp at all.

    Player Two is a nice comeback, rosewood boards should always be available…
    I would say modelers are probably going in the direction of Impulse Response amps and FX…. Taking that same concept of creating speaker can IR’s, I believe that’s the only way forward

    • @EricMerrow
      @EricMerrow 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Shane has a great question - if it’s just acting in a reverse manner, that is an easy fix. You could swap the outer 2 lugs and the pot will work in the correct manner

    • @jeffroq
      @jeffroq 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@intheblues My experience. The player, player + American Original and the Vintage II have righty pots wired backwards so the rotation is correct but the taper is at the wrong end. The Pro 2 has proper lefty (reverse taper) pots.

    Last year I was in the market for a Telecaster and after comparing the Player and Player Plus series I purchased the Player Plus largely because of the significant upgrades that It had over the standard player series. I can't understand why Fender would now release a new guitar (in an over crowded market) that appears to be a mediocre upgrade to the original Player series when to me, the Player Plus WAS the upgrade. Your thoughts please.
