Good tips mentioned in this video. I am not sure how many people will see this comment, but I do have a couple of tips to provide, mostly adding on to what was already mentioned: 1. Have a general idea of how much energy you recover in the healing zones at your max (non-boosting) speed. As you look at different machines, you will notice each machine recovers energy at different rates. If you look at this with the Golden Fox for example, you will understand why Fox players try to frontrun right away. Fox and Falcon players almost recover their full energy right away, and Goose and Stingway players generally recover about a boost's amount (about a boost and a half for Stingway). This can help gauge your energy if you can think about how often per lap you can boost, and stick to that if you can, as you really should not boost if your car is already smoking. You can be KOed with a spin attack or a Red Bumper as soon as you hit the Power Down stage. Only push yourself beyond that if you think you can cross the finish line without anyone spin attacking you (and ideally, you have your spin attack for defense). 2. Know when to spin attack. I tend to use spin attacks a bit more defensively myself. You are far less likely to get knocked around if you are spinning, so I save it for times where it would be better if I do not get knocked around, such as trying to hit arrows or navigate sharp turns. Spin attacks can also help if you think a Bumper might hit you on the side as you are trying to squeeze past them. Lastly, if you can, spin attack anything that you can see is smoking, whether a Gray Bumper or another Rival, as the spin attack does more damage than just bumping. I would say these two alone should significantly help you if you are not already thinking about energy management and making good use of your spin attacks.
That spin attack tip alone improved my play a ton! I didnt realize just how good spin attack can be in those specific situations. Specifically for not getting pushed away from the arrow boosts and for the sharp turns. Thanks for helping me realize that
Excellent sir! Managing your health and speed is really what the game is all about. Learning the courses and how each vehicle preforms, comes with time and practice. Use Practice mode!! it really helps you improve your times. Also aim for longevity in the Grand Prix's until you can fight for the top. It's not worth crashing out in the first race or in the second.
@TedbearFZ do either of you recommend using the antenna, or should I now try to get used to racing without it. Now I'm on my 2nd go around, I played passed 99 and I'm in the 50s with 1 star lol. I don't ever play the classic races do to me using the antenna.. Just wondering what you guys suggest. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you both for sharing your tips
I fkn love this game. I was in heavy traffic today and all I could think about was how to overtake others while Death Wind and Silence played in my head.
Side thing, the boost timings seem different for each car to prevent stalling the engine Goose - right when the sound ends after third "." Falcon/Stingray - halfway between sound ends and GO Fox - right before GO
Great tutorial! Here's my personal tip that may or may not be helpful, but for me has worked well while playing as Golden Fox: If I notice that my Super Boost meter is really close to full, and I have a decent bit of HP while the healing strip is not far off, I try to sneak in a boost or two right before filling up on Sparks. Once that's full, you're locked out of regular boosts, potentially for a good while until you hit your optimal Super Boost spot.
Stingray player here, since the SNES era. If you are a Stingray main, know that you are playing the long game. What I mean is that, due to the slow acceleration, you have to be patient and wait for your machine to go over 450, and then, you can outrun ANYTHING (except for other Stingrays). While crushing into other cars may not slow you as much, crashing into the borders, grazing them, and rough terrain can do a number on your velocity. Learn each track by heart, and only use boost if it's really necessary.
Great tips!! I had been placing 15-30 and didn't know what more I could be doing. After watching your vid, im able to consistently place >15 with goose and stingray
Even though I never win a GP, I still play for the fun of it. I usually end up placing 4th-10th on the main races and finish with a total at 10-15th place, I still have a good time. But you did give me a better insight on when and how to effectively make use of sky road
I tend to extremely aggressive with Golden Fox boosts. Just yesterday I was in first place on the last lap, right before the finish line… only to get Crashed Out by second place boosting into me. I’m sure that guy felt awesome though.
I love to see this franchise revived, nice tutorial. F-Zero was my third game on the snes, a really childhood game. Love this switch version and how speedrunners like you make videos about it. See you in the F-ZERO!

I haven't been enjoying Fire Stingray as much, but I forgot about the tap turning you mentioned, you definitely know what you're talking about.
Is blast tapping good on Goose ? I hope you will do an advanced tutorial with blast tapping versus strafing for each machine or talking about "shortcuts" :)
Nice video, let's hope your help with these guidelines encourages newcomers to getting better and continue playing the game. I am. sure that if F Zero fan base grows Nintendo will develop and release a Brand new title, that game we have been wating since FZero GX days.
The issue I am running into right now is that I am having a hard time being able to boost because of all the damage my Stingray is taking from all the geese. So I need my health to not explode from taking hits, and what is even worse is the speed loss from getting mauled by a goose. If I can learn how to better protect myself, I should be able to place much higher.
When are you supposed to use the strafing? Should you strafe while turning around corners? Navigating on straightaways? I find I never know how to use it correctly and just steer with the dpad, I don't have a lot of F0 experience. Thanks for the great tips!
Depends on the machine that you are using, but yea, strafing helps with taking turns and corners, sometimes (depending on the machine) I stop accelerating and just turn and strafe to take the turn.
With Fire Stingray, I keep my boost and save most of it for when I slow down from a mistake or getting bumped by others. This gets around the slower acceleration.
Thank you for the video! Just a couple of questions: 1) if I see a car who is smoking heavy, i've to spin it mandatorily or a touch is enough for ko'ing it? 2) could you kindly explain me what you mean when you talk about "the blast tap on accelerator" while boosting at 2:37 Thanks in advance
1) Depends on the machine, spinning would def kill it most likely but if its like a golden fox or blue falcon a little touch can be enough to kill it. 2) Blast-Turning simply means tapping the accelerator very quickly while steering through a corner. Without it, Fire Stingray (blast tapping/turning is best for that machine) will have a bad tendency to under-steer and continue going straight, certainly at top speed.

one very specfic pecie of advice im looking for, how tf do i race on death wind. Im a fairly decent A+ player got a good amount of wins on the Fire Stingray, but on death wind im always so far behind pace. Is there a death wind stragy i dont know about? I use L and R a lot on the straights and im hitting the boost im just always find myself back of the pack on it.
I'm going to be doing a video on death wind 1 soon. but it's probably the worst track for stingray. The number one thing I'd say is to boost early to get ahead, and make sure you hit each boost plate every time. Try to use skyway boost when your in a pack as well.
Really great video! I know it may not have quite been the game us F-Zero fans had hoped for but I’m glad to see Nintendo still giving the series some attention I hope the game lasts a long time it’s very fun so far!
Great content, thanks. Please make a tutorial about turning, I still find it hard to turn without losing speed or slide. I have only played F-Zero X, am new to this 2D mechanics. Edit: didn't know about losing speed driving over de black spots where other players exploded, I read all in-game tips and this was not mentioned or I skip it.
One thing I kept experiencing when I first started playing was *losing* speed on the Skyway. Like, to the point where machines on the ground were flying past me. Holding up on the d-pad or stick seemed to remedy this, but obviously makes precise turning a lot more difficult. Looked around online but wasn't seeing anyone else complain of the same issue.
My biggest issue is I feel like I don't have enough energy to stay ahead. I play Wild Goose because every other car I try gets bounced around by the pack, I miss turns and lose speed because everyone gets in the way. Sometimes I can manage to get up front but then the pack just starts catching up to me, either through Skyway or general attrition. And on the rare chance I do get a good lead, the game throws so many exploding cars in my way I eventually get hit and then everyone catches up.
1) Swag pfp >:) 2) Racing lines and improving your general driving ability can be very challenging in this game especially with everyone else on the field. The main thing I would recommend is to hop into the practice mode and just get a general feel for the best lines in the course, figure out how you best like taking turns (cutting the accelerator and turning versus accelerating and strafing when turning, etc) and also figure out when to cut the gas and weave through the exploding snails. I can promise you it is a real (albeit frustrating) skill to dodge those effectively. 3) With energy management things can be very different from race to race. I would say watch your energy like a hawk and see what is causing it to go down to fast (IE, maybe you are boosting to liberally or are cutting into the rails more often than you think for example, in addition to getting bumped around a lot.) Keep playing and you are sure to get better!
new viewer fyi, BUTTTT lemme say; good stuff! actually new to F-ZERO as a whole, but i've already reached B+ in this game just with me having good driving mainly, starting my aggressive playstyle though. (also grey bumpers can max energy and give you a little, so sometimes go for those!)
I've moved up steadily. I'm at Level 51 and am at A+. But i still have never finished in 1st Place. I consider it a success when i come finish in Top 10.
This was nice, truly. 🙂 I’ll probably go into my future races with a different mindset next time… Hopefully lol, I’m still a bit too eager to use all my resources, but I’ll see what I can do to make every decision more deliberate than impulsive. 😅 Good luck with the upcoming Queen Grand Prix. 👋🏻
Related questions 1. How do I find out the racing line myself? (Short of looking up a run of F-Zero SNES) 2. Also, is there a "scientific" way to know how to negotiate a curve. Like how should I have known that turning through the damage tiles was the right move in White Land 2? Or how to properly do the S-turn in Silence... 3. How do I know when to let go of the pedal, or when to blast-tap through a corner?
I was so close to winning on death wind 1 too! I got out sped on the final turn because I ran out of energy and played it safe rather than going straight into low power mode.
Tedbear, hold on, what the actual fuck was that score at the end? 996 points on the Grand Prix? That is… honestly frightening that someone can potentially dominate that much in a cup lol. Goroh is pulling all the stops thanks to you!
Haha thanks. It was almost a 1000 point GP too, I choked on Death Wind 1 and expended to much energy but alas. I have seen a few ppl pull off the perfect GPs though.
I find it weird everyone says stingray has the best handling. He has the best grip but fox has always had the best turn in which is why he can drift turns no other car can which is why he has been my favorite since the SNES. (Turn in being how fast the car can turn itself when using your sharp steer combined with regular turning.) You can take 180 degree turns without letting off the gas or losing speed. It just takes time to master.
Blast turning/tapping gives the same result in much less time to learn imo, which is mainly why. Also because it doesn't lose grip often, so our not sliding around going off your line.
I been watching videos about this game, this one is pretty good but I have a question from a tip that I have heard from others. People mention that you can still use the rocket boost in the beginning as a high risk high reward method. What you do is after rocket boosting you drift quickly L or R depending on what direction/position you face. This will put you in front of the opponent and when your engine stall they will bump into you propelling you forward while they lose their speed. I haven't tried this myself yet but do you think this is a good stragety? I know it is risky but maybe you can get good enough with it to pull it reliably?
While I personally dont use it in 99, that is the optimal startup strategy in F-Zero SNES, I dont believe (and I can be wrong on this bc I dont use it) the speed gain from getting bumped from behind is worth it, but completely stopping the person you launch in front of can be really good, ESPECIALLY if they are a rival racer.
1) yes and no… Think of 8 points in time (or 8 8th notes). Each dot is 2 points in time (or a 4th note). And go is rhe last point. For Stingray you wait until 3 point have passed which is shortly after the 2nd dot appears. For Falcon it’s 7 points, which is shortly after the last dot appears. For goose it’s 6. For fox it’s 8. These are just relatively close to their actual times, but if you try to always peas gas on the third dot with every vehicle you won’t get a boost with 2 and will stall out with another. 2) there are some machines that are better and worst dependent on if it’s a cup, single race, which track, which cup, and more… Falcon is hands down the worst vehicle overall, but it’s not bad in classic. Foxes and geese are the two best in cups. Foxes are the best on single short tracks, stingrays are the best on longer tracks and tracks that have a lot of turns that lose speed.
Game had it's moments but the sweats are taking over and I don't wanna be apart of it. Day 1 was peak for this game because more people were at a similar skill level but now it's one mistake and you're being sent back 40-50 places. Also the inability to practice with the skylane makes it a matter of trial and error to find out where it's optimal to use, which is impossible because the length of it isn't set. Overall a very confused game but good for those who can actually have fun playing it.
I won all three cups in SNES F Zero and got a hold of using spin attacks and timing Skyway correctly but even with these tips I can never consistently win
New viewer, loving the F-ZERO 99 content! I tend to play a bit more conservatively with my boosting, so I thought Pico's defensive Wild Goose might be a good fit, but the low healing rate has kind of been a turn-off. Would you suggest a different machine, or should I try sticking to Wild Goose? Also really love that Golden Fox is actually good here, and isn't just a total meme pick, lol.
I only got 1st place once when I first started. Since then Its always between 60 and 20. I only died twice in all the races I had. I can not figure out how to get a top 10 place
what? You can get bumped by another player if you do the "hold boost" at the start. It's completely possible and i do it constantly. Just do the hold boost and then spin to get in a good position and get a good bump.
I know this is old and you may have already corrected it, but the very first tip is just dead wrong. The best moment to hit the "gas" is right at the start of the match. It's high risk - high reward.
It really depends on the machines accelerations. For example with fire stingray, id say the consistency of doing it at the third ellipse to get that guaranteed boost start is worth it more rather than risking getting none for a better one simply due to how bad its acceleration is. With the golden fox it doesn't really matter, and with the BF and WG it kinda goes up to the player.
I’m sure one day I’ll get 1st lol. So far 8th is my best. I don’t understand how Golden Fox is for staying out in front, I’m always way in back when I use it 🤷♂️
I feel Goose takes minimal effort in comparison to other machines when you have patience. Fox takes the most skill when knowing you have critical health values most of the time and while I'm glad they nerfed Stingray from the original because well let's face it, he was the best and everyone would be using him, he is still the distant third pick for most people. Using Falcon, however, was dissatisfaction in a nutshell and felt completely useless when playing at high levels.
i absolutely loved the concept of this game but i hope they add a mode with less players, because i want to feel i win only because of my skill, and not by lucky things.
I was so close to winning on death wind 1 too! I got outsped on the final turn because I ran out of energy and played it safe rather than going straight into low power mode.

Holding up on the d-pad or stick seemed to remedy this, but obviously makes precise turning a lot more difficult. Looked around online but wasn't seeing anyone else complain of the same issue.
It seems like you have to memorize where the boost arrows on those skyways are.
1) Swag pfp >:)
2) Racing lines and improving your general driving ability can be very challenging in this game especially with everyone else on the field.
I would say watch your energy like a hawk and see what is causing it to go down to fast (IE, maybe you are boosting to liberally or are cutting into the rails more often than you think for example, in addition to getting bumped around a lot.) Keep playing and you are sure to get better!
that white land cut is dirty
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And love F-Zero games.
new viewer fyi, BUTTTT lemme say; good stuff!
actually new to F-ZERO as a whole, but i've already reached B+ in this game just with me having good driving mainly, starting my aggressive playstyle though.
(also grey bumpers can max energy and give you a little, so sometimes go for those!)
Glad to hear you are at B+! Keep on racing and you'll be S in no time!
Trying to not get ranked out on the first lap of Knight League’s Death Wind using Fire Stingray and i think i see now what i was doing wrong. Thanks.
I've moved up steadily. I'm at Level 51 and am at A+. But i still have never finished in 1st Place. I consider it a success when i come finish in Top 10.
This was nice, truly. 🙂
I’ll probably go into my future races with a different mindset next time… Hopefully lol, I’m still a bit too eager to use all my resources, but I’ll see what I can do to make every decision more deliberate than impulsive. 😅
Good luck with the upcoming Queen Grand Prix. 👋🏻

1. How do I find out the racing line myself? (Short of looking up a run of F-Zero SNES)
2. Also, is there a "scientific" way to know how to negotiate a curve. Like how should I have known that turning through the damage tiles was the right move in White Land 2? Or how to properly do the S-turn in Silence...
3. How do I know when to let go of the pedal, or when to blast-tap through a corner?
That last Grand Prix was insane lmao, 4 1st is crazy
I was so close to winning on death wind 1 too! I got out sped on the final turn because I ran out of energy and played it safe rather than going straight into low power mode.
This and your previous upload are both amazing videos, appreciate the tips! Earned your self a new sub
Awesome! New video coming hopefully soon for more tips and strategies (for GP mode :o)
@@TedbearFZ hell yea, excited 👀
Tedbear, hold on, what the actual fuck was that score at the end? 996 points on the Grand Prix? That is… honestly frightening that someone can potentially dominate that much in a cup lol. Goroh is pulling all the stops thanks to you!
Haha thanks. It was almost a 1000 point GP too, I choked on Death Wind 1 and expended to much energy but alas. I have seen a few ppl pull off the perfect GPs though.
Do you ever use the antenna?
Do you have any tips for Death Wind I in particular? I’ve really struggled on the map and just cannot get past it on the Grand Prix.
If you want to know what “get good” truly means, ask a person who grew up in the arcade and had to do their best on their last quarter/token.
1) yes and no…
Think of 8 points in time (or 8 8th notes).
It's become F Zero GX master class difficulty but with real people lol
I won all three cups in SNES F Zero and got a hold of using spin attacks and timing Skyway correctly but even with these tips I can never consistently win
New viewer, loving the F-ZERO 99 content! I tend to play a bit more conservatively with my boosting, so I thought Pico's defensive Wild Goose might be a good fit, but the low healing rate has kind of been a turn-off. Would you suggest a different machine, or should I try sticking to Wild Goose?
Also really love that Golden Fox is actually good here, and isn't just a total meme pick, lol.
Goose is good, but if you want more recovery try out Fire Stingray!
You seem to prefer having the mini map zoomed in as opposed to showing the entire track. How come?
Don't really have a reason, though I suppose I prefer seeing where everyone else Is compared to just my rivals, but tbh I don't look at the map much
lets go ted
I only got 1st place once when I first started. Since then Its always between 60 and 20. I only died twice in all the races I had. I can not figure out how to get a top 10 place
I've got 3 race wins now and rank of S10
It can be hard to predict when to do a defensive spin. I perform the worst on Mute City, and Big Blue than I do all the other tracks. lol
I keep getting top 10 but can not seem to get first getting frustrated!!
Hell yeah 👍🙏
Do you recommend analog or dpad?
Dpad for sure, im a FZSNES and FZGBA player mostly so I am way to used to Dpad to try anything else LOL
Can we see best lap times for other players?
Really good tutorial!
A Fire Stingray stan, I see
Old habits die hard
nice video but small tip, the music at the start was a bit loud so i couldn't fully hear the intro
This is great! Thank you so much!
Great tutorial man, should be getting better placements in races thanks to this 😎
I’m sure one day I’ll get 1st lol. So far 8th is my best. I don’t understand how Golden Fox is for staying out in front, I’m always way in back when I use it 🤷♂️
This game is fire 🔥
this is so awesome

I feel Goose takes minimal effort in comparison to other machines when you have patience.
Fox takes the most skill when knowing you have critical health values most of the time and while I'm glad they nerfed Stingray from the original because well let's face it, he was the best and everyone would be using him, he is still the distant third pick for most people.
Using Falcon, however, was dissatisfaction in a nutshell and felt completely useless when playing at high levels.
im going to beat one of your flap times this year i swear
i absolutely loved the concept of this game but i hope they add a mode with less players, because i want to feel i win only because of my skill, and not by lucky things.
Heeeeelp maniac racer.
Constant bash attacks or constant ram attacks will😮 never help you improve or score higher in race rankings.
My highest rank so far is 17
I had no idea the scorch marks where people died had any effect on you, that's so weird
graphics need redon
DUDE 996 points??? Are you kidding me??? 😬😱
