DORSET WALK AT KNOWLTON (& GUSSAGE ALL SAINTS)

- This is the first video in a series of walks in Dorset and once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan. In this episode, we start from the pretty village of Gussage All Saints and look at the Church & Drovers Inn before heading out through some lovely open countryside to our main destination - the atmospheric ruin of Knowlton Church, standing in the centre of a Neolithic earthworks.
The “Knowlton Henge” is thought to be at least 4,500 years old and is now a protected heritage site. In addition, we come across the “Great Barrow” (the largest Bronze Age Round Barrow in Dorset) as well as a couple of ancient Yew trees that have some surprising “additions” to them!
It was a very overcast day whilst I was filming and my Gopro camera found the "low light" conditions a bit of a challenge! I hope that it does not spoil your enjoyment of the video.

I use a GOPRO HERO 7 Black Action Camera together with a Canon SX 400IS.
Going back 4 years on this one. Very nice ❤
I was born in Holly Tree Cottage (4 minutes into the video) and lived there for the first 11 years of my life - lovely village and nice to see it again
What a lovely area to have had your childhood.
@@DaveFord Yes and no. As a child in the 1950s there were not many child-focused things to do. In those days it was a farming area and, like most working-class people, my father could not afford a car and there was no bus service (apart from a bus each Thursday to Blandford Forum for the market). We had to rely on coach outings to Weymouth or Bournemouth.
The village is very different now - full of retired townies inflating the house prices. And the village shop and garage are long gone.
We used to live near Knowlton. Now in New Zealand. Great videos! Makes me feel homesick. Your New Forest walks are pretty good to.
Have fallen out of “ The Drovers Inn,” a few times🍺👍
Thank you. I hope to do some more "Walks in Dorset" videos in 2021.
Really love watching these walks. Do you do any guided walks Dave? 😊
Thanks Val. No, I am afraid that I don't organise guided walks. These are just videos of me & my dog - going out into the countryside & seeing what we can discover and at the same time hopefully give people some ideas about where they might to walk (ie a rough guide to the walk & what to look out for). Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the walk Dave & Logan! You are always just a wealth of knowledge Dave - thanks for all the history! I loved it!!!😁👍
Thank you for your kind comments.
@@DaveFord can't wait for what other great finds you show us around Dorset! I know you did some great ones w/ Richard a while back!!!
Really likes your walks with a lot of history
Thank you Ann
Just showing my wife this charming video again. As stated in a previous comment,we used to frequent the pub with our kids. The numbers in the old sign post Are map coordinates, I believe.
Knowlton is certainly an atmospheric place, that is for sure! Thanks for the info re the sign post.
Great video Dave so much history in that area I’ve driven through there a handful of times but wasn’t aware of the church remains.
It does have an atmosphere to it.
Another interesting walk Dave. How nice to be able to go for a pint after a walk! I'm sure you have been asked before but who's playing the guitar music you feature?
Thanks Mark. All my music comes from the TH-cam Audio Library (it is free and there is no copyright!). Recently I have used Firefly & Tupelo Train (both by Chris Haugen) as well as Rainy Sundays & Lovely Afternoon Walk (both by The 126ers).
Good Chanel bro keep it up
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
