    It took me 2 years to finally watch a video about a motorcycle combiner box for this add-ons.
    As until today I was using switch connectors, which with time became a mess.
    Thank you

    Tip: Before you strip the wire there is a strip marker on the side of the wago connector. Line the wire up with that and stip to that length. Just so you don't have bare wire sticking out the end.

    Good overview, just wanted to confirm something. So I assume the thunderbox "knows" the engine is running because it detects the higher 13+volts from the bike's charging system. So in order to plug in a battery tender, the only way to prevent the thunderbox mistakenly thinking the bike is running, you have to dig out the thunder box, dig out the white wire every time and then connect it to the black?
    If that's the case I assume connecting the white wire to an ACC power might prevent all that, but then you'd loose the "only while engine is running" function. hmmm
    Also connecting the permanent lead plug for the battery tender would still require attaching directly to the battery, in addition to the thunder box yeah?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m afraid i didn’t delve into that too much as i never had power in the garage. But i did eventually end up connecting the white wire anyway, as it allowed me to keep power to the USB sockets even when the bike was off.

      I’ve connected my spot lights direct to the TB but would like to install a separate switch to enable me to turn on and off, any ideas about the wiring?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could connect the ignition wire (white one) and have a switch on that circuit. But that would then switch off everything connected to the TB. Otherwise a switch between the Spotlights and the connection to the TB would do the trick. Of course depending on the draw of your spotlights, you might want to think about putting a relay in there.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean the black wire? The ground? It’s possible i might have connected them to a point on the frame. One way or another, you need the ground to make the accessory work. But often you can ground on to the frame and that itself is connected to the negative terminal of the battery.

    • @mattmutane5502
      @mattmutane5502 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndyManCam My laziness is why the loom is installed (direct to the battery) but the grips are not (will do that VERY soon). I've got the "official" Yamaha grips which auto-detect the bike switching off and turn themselves off, but I like this better, "enforced shutdown"! ;) :) I don't think it's advisable to splice a heating element into an ignition circuit, which wasn't designed to take that kind of current...(which is why they are designed to connect direct to the battery) :)

    Ever have an issue/conflict with the Oxford Heated Grips intelligent controller? Normally it would monitor the power and switch off the grips if you forget. But if connected to the TB it loses power altogether. Thought I saw where someone said they had an issue turning them back on or at least there was a long delay before he could get power to the controller. Other than that, brilliant product and video!

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t, but i did have a problem whereby my Daytona heated grips would switch off whenever i stopped at the lights and the bike was ticking over. Healtech told me that it was because mine was the first batch and it was fixed with firmware on all after that. When i eventually did switch to oxford grips, i connected straight to the battery, as the intelligent controller always worked well for me before so i didn’t see the need to double up on the protection. Then the grips proceeded to kill the battery the first time i parked the bike 🤦🏻‍♂️ After that they never worked properly again and now i have factory fitted KTM grips on the 1090 that i replaced the Honda with.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndyManCam So every time you wanted to charge the battery you would have to connect the white cable to the black terminal block if I understood that correctly?

    • @AndyManCam

      Depends really. You could charge the battery fine i think, because the engine wouldn’t be running anyway. I guess this is just a further safeguard against the accessories powering on. But even that wouldn’t really be any different to charging the battery without the Thunderbox.

    Interesting, I have a Innov powerhub (V1) on my FZ1 it needs a switched live which I connected to the number plate light using a posi-lock. It has a 5-10 second delay so even if the ignition's on you can use full battery power to crank the bike. I'm surprised it took this long for a company to bring out one of these without the need of a switched live considering heated grips and other accessories which can detect a bike not running existing for a while now.
    BTW if you use an SAE tender cable you can use Optimate's USB adapter which auto shuts off if the battery hits 12.5V without any ignition being on (SAE cable is connected direct to the battery)
