    What a time to be a high school Junior as I recall around April of 1970. Attention children under 20, these are your grandparents on that dance floor in their youth without an iota of a thought of being 65 or above someday.

      I graduated high school in 1970! Except for Vietnam War, it was a great time to be alive! Went to Woodstock, married and had three kids, while working my way through nursing school. Worked for decades as an RN! Lost my darling husband in 2001. He was an ironworker. Sadly I lost my youngest son suddenly in November 2023! Oh life!❤️☮️✌️😔

      Grandparents. EXCELLENT POINT.
      Noticeably older people have not been old for very long. It is a fairly new, and sometimes perplexing experience.

      mrob75 Same here! I remember the hippies who lived in my neighborhood. I was a kid obsessed with them. From my 2nd floor apartment fireescape I would see them in the apartment below with all their records on the floor listening to their groovy music. When we would camping hippies would help my parents put up the tent. Everything was better then.

      I was just weeks from high school graduation when this clip aired in May 1970. The Beatles were about to break up and a young kid named Michael Jackson was stepping into the spotlight with his family group The Jackson 5. The world of the 60s was winding down. It was a changing of the guard.

    Can you dig it? What a great song . The rhythm section on this song propels it so well.Those bass lines under pin the song so well. First heard this on the Cousin Brucie afternoon show on WABC 770 New York and then in FM glory and stereo on WPLJ 95.7 New York. One of the best "soul" songs from the late 60's and early 70's. What a sound!!

    I remember watching Bandstand back in the day. Wasn't a big fan, and I watched it with only passing interest. That's a pity because watching these clips now, I see now that I never really noticed then just how heartbreakingly lovely most of these young ladies were.
    Makes a guy kind of wistful for the lost beauty of youth. If you know what I mean.

    It's amazing to see if the music and dress style change from 50s to 70s. I was 10 at the time of this video. You can see the late 60s style, slowly turning into the disco era style of shags, afros, platform shoes, etc

      Hi Don! Can you point out (by the video timer) who they are? I’m ALWAYS happy to learn more about the AB dancers! Also, what years were they on the show?

    • @dancerdon9175
      @dancerdon9175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Upon closer look it appears that Andy's partner in this clip is their friend Charlotte. Andy is wearing monochrome shirt and trousers and wide tie. Charlotte is wearing a dark dress with white piping. They are dancing the "two step". Video timer at 1:21; 1:47 and 2:14 are the best shots. They danced on Bandstand from late 1969 through the early '70s. Contact Jeff at ABdancers. I've shared vintage photos with him or you can get my email from him if you wish.

    • @dancerdon9175
      @dancerdon9175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another Bandstand footnote: Buggy and Andy were in the AB dance contest -- probably 1971 or 1972. Hope this is helpful. Don

      Ah, got it! I almost guessed that was the couple you were talking about. Whether it’s Charlotte or Buggy with Andy, they look like they know what they were doing. And I’d love to see vintage photos....I’ll check in with Jeff.

      And what, pray tell, would today's "millenial youngsters" actually DANCE to?! Certainly not the vulgarity-laced, spoken-word diatribes, spouted by our endless supply of rappers and hip hoppers! Nope! American Bandstand and the magical realm it created for generations of teens and young adults, whose total enjoyment in life was being a part of its magic...those days, and sadly, those teens and young adults, are gone forever.
