Back in the days when teenage girls looked slim, innocent and beautiful. And the sorts of prizes they were happy to try to win. Can't imagine current era teens being happy about such modest prizes.
They would want the hope diamond as a Prize or they would laugh at it, it's all quite different with the WAP song as number 1 referring too, wet ass pussy song
I was a little kid in the 70’s (not yet born when this aired). But I always thought it would be so fun to go back in time to that era, as a young adult. Such an awesome time period!!! ❤🥰
Loved American Bandstand in the ‘70’s! Every Saturday morning. It wasn’t so much about the dancing for me, it was the performers. Lots of big names got their start there.
Good clean fun nice looking guys and girls. Those were the days I lived to dance with them every Saturday morning!! I'm almost 68 and I still love to dance!! Great time in my life. Glad to be able to view this❣️
@Bodgie1960 it was a great time. Miss those days, the music, plus Mom and Dad. Stay safe during this crazy COVID19 virus my friend. Greetings from Charleston, West Virginia
"Up Around the Bend" is one of my favorite songs ever. Might be played at my funeral. Such joy requires the talent of trained professional dancers to truly express the ecstasy of this song.
Wow, those were the days, love me some CCR, you could understand the words to the song, the guys has pants around the waist, not below their rear end, (how crazy is that!) everyone dressed so classy, I graduated high school in 73, college in 79, the 70’s were the best, wonderful memories!
Right on, Spanky! Didn’t even know what John was saying in most of Green River until the advent of the Internet! Barefoot girls dancing in the moonlight… that was about all I could get out of it at the time. LOL but I didn’t let that stop me. CCR was the first 45 I ever bought. It was either Who Will Stop the Rain or Up Around the Bend. I remember Hey Tonight was on the B side. My husband and I had the privilege of seeing John Fogerty perform a couple of years ago. It was a great concert. He had his son up there playing music with him!
I'm that guy (Now 66), who faithfully watched American Bandstand every Saturday morning. I also, fondly remember having my cassette recorder in front of the radio, waiting for the right songs to come on, then recording them. Sometimes waiting for hours for my favorite songs. WOW!!! The memories watching this video! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have to give them credit dancing on national TV. I danced locally for Disco dance contest and although fun and one time, it was nerve wracking for me 😰. They all did a great job. I liked #1 the best and the young man from Memphis danced pretty good too. In one year, those turning 18 would be given a voice by allowing them to vote. The 26th amendment was passed in March 1971. The power they held to change the landscape of our nation then and now, wow! Amazing!
One of the knocks on this generation by the older folks of the time was that they didn't dance cheek to cheek like they did in the early 20th century . Dancing at a distance allows one to express themselves more freely 👍
@@lindaeasley4336 Funny thing was, I wanted to do "touch" dancing. East and west coast swing. Was learning the quick step from my dad. Couldn't find anyone my age to take lesson with. Such a bummer. I did the "free style" dancing by default, but I never felt like it was really dancing.

I remember watching this when it aired. They played the song over and over again. Loved it
Thank you for this and all the additional information in the description box. May you be blessed for taking the time to take us down memory lane and giving us these few moments of happiness during these dark dark times. ♥
Up Around The Bend was one of my favorite CCR songs, so I remember this contest. I'm torn between #1 and #2.
My favorite CCR song too, I wouldn't have wanted to dance to it though, that would be tough.
I remember kids dancing to this song on ABS, I was fourteen.
Same! 1 and 2 are the best!
1 couple deffo the best..music fantastic..
I'd vote for #2. They danced together, West Coast Swing.
I remember Saturday morning cartoons and american bandstand an soooooul train I loved it all I'm 61 yrs old
It’s nice to go back in times brought back many memories wish I could go back then life was so deference compare to now ❤
That was fun to watch!
Back in the days when teenage girls looked slim, innocent and beautiful. And the sorts of prizes they were happy to try to win. Can't imagine current era teens being happy about such modest prizes.
I'm so glad I grew up in a time where my intelligence was more important than my looks.
Hawaii is a modest prize??????🤔
@@tiffbeevachou108 true. No girls or women need to exist to look pleasing to others. That idea needs to die.
TRUE ☹️
They would want the hope diamond as a Prize or they would laugh at it, it's all quite different with the WAP song as number 1 referring too, wet ass pussy song
I was a little kid in the 70’s (not yet born when this aired). But I always thought it would be so fun to go back in time to that era, as a young adult. Such an awesome time period!!! ❤🥰
They all did great! #4 especially Super 70's dancers and dress. Love the vintage prizes! Even peel and stick floor ties which were popular then.
This brings a smile on my face. Happy moments wishing we were back there again. This world is not the same people are just getting terrible.
Definitely #4 I used to watch this show every week in the 70s. 52 years ago
I liked couple # 4 the best as well.
Saturday's delight..thanks as always you rock..
#1
Loved American Bandstand in the ‘70’s! Every Saturday morning. It wasn’t so much about the dancing for me, it was the performers. Lots of big names got their start there.
Hi there.. how are you doing? Hope you are fine and staying safe over there??
The year I graduated from high school. Those were the days, my friend.
me too. McClintock High, Tempe, AZ, i'm on the reunion committee, had to postpone get together to this october
Me too.
Good clean fun nice looking guys and girls. Those were the days I lived to dance with them every Saturday morning!! I'm almost 68 and I still love to dance!! Great time in my life. Glad to be able to view this❣️
I graduated from HS in 74, my brother in 71. Those were nice times except for the draft from 1969 - 1973,
Back then, all the trips had "Chaperones." Loved American Bandstand. Id go back and stay
@Bodgie1960 it was a great time. Miss those days, the music, plus Mom and Dad. Stay safe during this crazy COVID19 virus my friend. Greetings from Charleston, West Virginia
USMC 73 - 77. I took many trips in the 70s and never had a chaperone.
Somebody's grandma and grandpa!🤣😂
Positive Vibrations61 ...Stated in every video depicting youth from the 60’s.🙄
@@blueberrycobbler still tru doh...
Lol!!
Boomers
Shush, now!
"Up Around the Bend" is one of my favorite songs ever. Might be played at my funeral. Such joy requires the talent of trained professional dancers to truly express the ecstasy of this song.
My dad and I used to watch this every week together and we loved the couple from Oklahoma. If I remember right, they won! What good memories.
Couple #2 Jonathan and Sylvia are still teaching dance classes in Santa Barbara, CA.
Wow, those were the days, love me some CCR, you could understand the words to the song, the guys has pants around the waist, not below their rear end, (how crazy is that!) everyone dressed so classy, I graduated high school in 73, college in 79, the 70’s were the best, wonderful memories!
Hi Teresa.. How are you doing today?
I don’t know about understanding all the words back then: “There’s a bad moon on the right“ versus “there’s a bathroom on the right“.
Right on, Spanky! Didn’t even know what John was saying in most of Green River until the advent of the Internet! Barefoot girls dancing in the moonlight… that was about all I could get out of it at the time. LOL but I didn’t let that stop me. CCR was the first 45 I ever bought. It was either Who Will Stop
the Rain or Up Around the Bend.
I want one of those portable cassette tape recorders!
I had one and it was my favorite thing to play with. The good old days.
I thought I was a great singer until I heard myself on the cassette player. I was wrong!😳
Shop your nearest thrift stores! I have some that still work fine, but I have so many cassettes I don’t want to get rid of them. MMB
Amazing!
Yep. I turned 18 in 1971. They also lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18. Good time to be a senior in high school!
Unfortunately the guys were facing the draft and Viet Nam. I remember watching the draft numbers being picked on TV.
RIP Jonathan Bixby (Rick Bixby here), couple #2 with Sylvia Sykes.
BETH!! Loved the scarf, boots, dance moves....you rocked it girl!..Definitely coolest look. Bet it was a real hoot to see the clip💞
Fun to watch how the dancing changed over the years. From couples dancing together in 67 to separate dancing here.
In southern California, we were already dancing apart in 1967.
Hey these kids are nearly six feet away from each other...the Coronavirus dance marathon 2020!
😀😀
One of the knocks on this generation by the older folks of the time was that they didn't dance cheek to cheek like they did in the early 20th century .
Dancing at a distance allows one to express themselves more freely 👍
@@lindaeasley4336 Funny thing was, I wanted to do "touch" dancing. East and west coast swing. Was learning the quick step from my dad. Couldn't find anyone my age to take lesson with. Such a bummer. I did the "free style" dancing by default, but I never felt like it was really dancing.
THANKS FOR the blast from the past.great music.great bands.concerts everywhere.alot of fun danceing..May be getting old.but still young in heart.and soul.thank you .😊
I watched this show all the time. That is how we all learned to dance!!!
I bought the 45rpm record of "Up Around the Bend" in the Summer, 1970 and played it over and over.
Hooray for Couple #6 & EL PASO, TEXAS~ KELP and legendary "Steve Crosno" (RIP) "Crosno" was quite a popular DJ icon for anyone growing up in the late 50's - the 80's! (Thank you, Aaron, for this upload!)
I remember listening to a DJ Starr in El Paso in the early 70s.
Shout out from El Paso!
This type of show should come back.
Wow that gave be such a flashback & a great smile..sometimes the most unexpected things just happen and it brings such joy. That was so GROOVY MAN.
Did you all notice how fit and trim the young people of 1970 were.
Young people today are sooo overweight and could not dance like this...Sad
In 1970 I was in 7th grade and there were quite a few overweight kids then too.
S Dhr Yep! Our food has turned to processed chemicals..That’s the difference
Uwant typetwo diabetes..theyr dancing at wal*mart
@@dennythomas8887 1970..
I was in the 3rd grade....i do not recall any fat kids in my class. I use the word Fat because ...we did not have the notion of PC...and the fat kids would have been teased and ridiculed...not saying this was ok...it is the way it was.
S Dhr Or perhaps television hasn’t changed much. They just pick thin people to be on it.
Love American bandstand always. I’m from philly where it first began
Me too , So Philly , Grays Ferry ,, never missed Band's and
Do you ever watch these classic shows and wonder whatever happened to these teenagers?
Yes. 🤷🏽♀️
They became adults like the rest of us 😂
The girl in the black dress and the loose hair, Sylvia Sykes, is still dancing, she teaches how to dance Swing (Balboa in particular) to the whole world. She's an icon and the international community of Lindy Hoppers and Swing dancers loves her! You can even attend a workshop with her, checking out Nick Williams profile on Facebook and Patreon ❤
yep, all the time :)
There dead, old, getting social security money, 401 k , grand parents,
I turned fifteen in May of 1970. I loved watchin American Bandstand. And I loved dancing. We had lots of school dances in junior high and high school and lots of community dances too. In junior high (9th grade) I won a couple of dance contests. I am now 67 and can't dance due to bad knees. But I was surprised to find myself tearing up watching this and remembering those times. The close, the music, the dances, the crushes, etc. Time is so fleeting. I'd love for them to round all these folks up and do it again, for old times' sake.
Loved growing up during this time. The best.
Poor kids!!!.......having to dance that is totally UNDANCEABLE.!!!!
lol totally agree love CCR but you cant really dance to this song ..if anythig the POC were moving the best to the song
Couple 2 look like they can dance to about anything.
Brings back so many good memories 👍🥰
Hi 👋how are you doing?
my generation, most beautiful ladies, coolest cars, greatest music John 3.3
Couple number one was awesome :)
Thank you! I loved CCR , so good to see this.❤
This was fun to watch. I was cheering for couple #1 and they did win!
Me too 🤗
Maybe say “spoiler alert“ next time.
Too bad I thought couple#4 was the best.
Cool, happy they won, they were my favourites watching this! 😁
ALL RIGHT ! Confess everyone that learned to dance watching American Band Stand !
No way. White people can't dance, as this video shows. I'm white but I learned from Soul Train.
Yes! I was the best dancer in my room.
Most definitely!
