- Hi everyone! In this video, we make the last few preparations for our trip to Florida, and finally LEAVE. Shane traverses driveway floods, Hannah brings a friend to the airport, and we hold our breath while Shane's chair is unloaded from the airplane in Orlando.

Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah is a senior at Carleton College, studying sociology and anthropology. She works as a researcher for an educational consulting firm. Her future aspirations include attending law school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3 years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

Business owner, and one of the first pioneer advocates for the ADA. Accomplished so much given her disability. She would've loved this channel. 💛

FireCracker3240 hi there, I don’t want to speak for Shane but referring to him as “cute” and like “a kid at Christmas” can be considered patronizing when you’re referring to a 26 year old man. I know he is small and makes goofy faces, but that’s just who he is. You may not have meant it or realized it, but it comes across as baby talk. People with MD (such as myself who is a 27 year old male) want to be spoken to/ about just like you would anyone else. Hope this helps!
@@TheWoogieMan Wow, ok. I didn't expect criticism for that comment. To clarify, I would never mean to patronize anyone, especially not Shane. It was not meant in a derogatory way. I actually thought his reaction was sweet. His excitement was pure and real, and that is what I meant by it (because kids are pure, especially at Christmas). He has said that he wants to be treated like everyone else, and I say this phrase to my friends, all over the age of 30, some with disabilities, some without. I call people of all shapes, sizes and ages cute all the time. In my opinion, cute is more a state of mind and an attitude than an actual physical description, and that is how it was meant, with the kindest of intentions. However, if I offended anyone, my apologies.
@@FireCracker3240 Thanks for clarifying! I'm glad to hear that. I've just seen it all too often that people naturally tend to speak baby talk to people with physical disabilities and I think it just happens due to a lack of understanding.

I’m so happy y’all got to go to Disney. Liz I think you are the most awesome Mom/Human being on the planet. It would totally take someone like you and your husband to create such perfection as Hannah. And she is perfection. She is a beautiful example of what a wife should be. We all love that girl. No one deserves her more than Shane. Not just because he’s a hottie but because he’s a hottie with brains and personality. Then on top of that he has an amazing sense of humor.
Something tells me that Shane is going to start getting local beers from around the country to fill his fridge!

Just a heads up... it’s illegal to send beer through usps and you can be fined and/or prosecuted. Always send fed ex or ups even though it’s against their policy they can’t punish you for it!

My sister is in a power chair, and while traveling one time the men at the gates loading it onto the plane TRIED TO FOLD IT. My dad was banging on the little window in the plane so hard and eventually the pilot had to run down and tell them it's not like a baby stroller doesn't fold up. We realize they are most likely not trained and don't get a ton of power chairs on flights and they all operate differently, but it is still a scary moment when a persons means of transportation, that is very expensive is in danger!

Hannah, I echoed your "woahh no no noo" when they were trying to maneuver Shane's chair!
Aneres Plum its a scary time watching your chair dragged onto a plane. You need to film it incase its damaged to help with comolaint to company when they dont pay out for fixing or replacing, but equally you feel incredibly hekpless and dont want to watch them bash it about. I think there needs to be much better training on the way to move wheelchairs, how expensive they are and the massive inpact in the users life ifhey are damaged for airport staff.

Probably either people so excited to like, they accidentally dislike, are thinking it's yet another vid with this fake relationship, are pissed about no captions, are jealous Shane gets Hannah, dislike the TSA, think they were cruel to the dog, don't drink or don't like the sound quality.

I was a bit annoyed with the rough way they were handling Shane's chair. Don't they realize how expensive those are?
At the same time, the lives of every human on the plane are pretty expensive either. It seems excessive, but unfortunately people are shitty and hiding bombs and weapons in things as innocent as a chair are real risks. As TSA it's equally annoying to have to seemingly harass people like this.
I would’ve punched that guy if that were my chair. They don’t care, they just want to get the job done. It was making me angry watching that

Lindsay Wood Oh we known TSA check had to be done on Shane’s chair. We are talking about how his chair was handled when it was put on the plane. The luggage handlers used pretty excessive force to get it where they needed it.

I spent last summer in a wheelchair and quickly realized how bad accessibility is places but especially in the small town region i live in and now that my condition has improved I am still hyper aware of accessibility. My brother and I were born with no disabilities. I believe we were given a privileged upbringing as we see the heart of the person and their abilities not disabilities.
