    Nice job. I always thought the clasp should be brushed on these bracelets. It is in a position that naturally makes contact with things and develops scratches.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the clasp is especially vulnerable to desk marks, but I understand it needs to be polished to stay consistent with the rest of the bracelet, The Oyster Perpetual, Sea-Dweller, and Explorers will be more resistant to scratches...

      @@anthonyrondolino8148 Thanks. I'm trying, but It's hard to gain traction on TH-cam as a novice. I don't know all the techniques or algorithms, since it's just a side interest for me. I prefer not to be on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. But I like watching other people's TH-cam videos, and I enjoy photography and video editing, so I thought I would give it a try...

    The fluted bezel and oyster bracelet is such a good combo. Looks luxurious and sporty at the same time.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I think it’s my favorite configuration for the DateJust. The fluted bezel shines, but the oyster bracelet keeps it toned down overall.

    Nice job! I lightly polish mine whenever I get scratches. I keep my Datejust and Explorer in perfect condition. There are many ways to do this including using a wheel with stainless steel polish, and cotton pads with something as fine as silver polish (which will not remove very many scratches at all); and I have used toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, and lots of water, to get between the links and prevent dirt causing extra wear on the bracelet. I always wash off extra polishing or cleaning agent and thoroughly dry with a soft towel. I clean frequently. Like you, I want my watches to look good. I am not going to ever sell them, and they are mine to enjoy. Two things. I try to keep my watches protected by my shirt cuff, and I limit my wearing the watches when I am wearing short sleeve shirts - as best I can. That is the time for the banger watches. Also, I have found that the clasps easily scratch (they are very soft), on the even the wooden table of a restaurant. I am glad that you made this video. It is your privilege to enjoy the watch that you bought in any way that you see fit. I think the purest make too big of a deal about this. I understand that if a watch was polished to the point that its sharp lugs, for instance, were no longer soft: that this would affect its value. However, I would prefer dull edges to a major chip! That’s just me. And I am not selling mine anyway! Good video!

      Nothing wrong with spot polishing and minor touch-ups at home. I’d rather get rid of the scratches, as long as it doesn’t affect the shape of the edges or other surfaces.
      But it’s tricky if you have polished center links on the Datejust bracelet. You need to carefully tape the edges so you don’t spill over the polishing to the wrong surface. I use Cape Cod on the polished surfaces, and a fingernail buffer on the brushed surfaces.

    I don't know what a cape cod cloth is but if I had one I'd use it. You've worked hard for your watches so do as you please.

    Don't understand any hatred about this, I love this video, and it makes totally sense. For superficial scratches, DIY is much better than sending in to a service center, they usually take off a substantial amount of metal. Cape Cod minimizes this. Thank you for posting!!

      My thoughts exactly. Ok to use lightly for spot finishing.

    It’s your watch…do what u think is best! I use that cloth for my Rolex too. I don’t do it often….I usually wait until there’s several scratches. It comes out looking great. The trick is not to press to hard on the area.

    I agree with you sir…I believe polishing a watch to remove scratches and restore a new-like finish is a good idea…only the watch snobs will say don’t polish…and most importantly it is your watch…if you prefer a scratch free appearance then that is all that is revenant…good video

  • @paddyj7690
    @paddyj7690 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A perfect watch is one you like. Same goes for polishing; whether you polish your watch or not is 100% up to you. I stopped listening to watch snobs a long time ago, and I suggest you do the same. There's only so much "damage" you can do with a Cape Cod cloth, so work away and have a nice and shiny Rolex again. I polish my daily wearer, a Datejust every few months, and it always amazes me how shiny it is afterwards.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I don’t see any harm to Cape Codding it. It’s doesn’t get rid of all the scratches, but takes care of most of the very light scratches.

      @@sc1 What do you use for brushed surfaces. My 2 month old DJ41 picked up 2 scratches across the upper 2 PCLs and the brushed links next to them ;-(

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinmuntean7689 for the brushed surfaces, I use a fingernail buffer that you can buy at any drug store. It should have different coarse or fine texture options on each side to choose from. I usually use the #4 setting. It gets rid of the fine scratches, and I haven’t seen any damage from using it.

    I think it's okay to polish stainless steel if there are people hating on polishing it please tell me why
    I understand if it's solid gold because every time you polish it you lose gold but if it's not solid gold what's wrong with it
    Also I heard using the cloth they say you lose micro amounts of gold compared to if you buff a watch you lose 0.6g of gold

    • @sc1
      @sc1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t polish my gold watches myself. If it gets really bad, I might send it in to Rolex for service.
      But yeah I feel it’s fine to touch up steel at home. But if polishing gets too aggressive, the edges can get rounded and lugs can become asymmetric. I think that’s what people don’t like about a polished watch.

    Nice. But I would have really liked to have seen how you'd clean the Rolex crown on the clasp. Not sure if that was some of the Cape Cod paste left in there or just debris over time. Obviously a more "challenging" area to address.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point, I didn’t try to clean that area, but I would probably just use soapy water and a finger scrub on the crown at the clasp.

      @sc1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I've used a generic nail buffer on my Submariner bracelet. It works fine to remove very light scratches. But only on the brushed surfaces! The Cape Cod cloth is needed for the polished surfaces.

    The only way to go when it comes to service and polishing is Rolex nowhere else so to think Rolex could ever over polish is absurd, if anything they don’t go hard enough they only lite polish and bring it to as close to original as it can get i did a complete overhaul on my datejust 2 and when i got it back it looked like they could of just took another watch from the show case and sent it to me when i got it back that’s how new it looked
