Nice video and the info about which mops to use is excellent! I've got great results on stainless watch cases by using Dialux Blue and Dialux Green after a cycle of wet sanding up to 5,000grit.
I compared the blue stick to the jar of red Rouge that comes in the Dremel kits. The Dialux is TONS better than the crud from Dremel. No comparison. And this was on a stainless ruler that was unprepped beforehand. I didn't even clean it. And it was DULL. The light blue stick and a dremel 1 inch felt wheel put almost a mirror finish on it with almost no effort. I was stunned.
So glade i watched your video today! I am realizing i wasn't correct in the colors of polish... I work with silver and usually i use red then white and i never cleaned between the two, now i know from where tge stains came haha, thank you very much
Great video, thanks for posting! I'm learning how to polish out scratches and engravings / monograms on silver, so this helped. I just ordered the Dialux Blanc and some new polishing wheels. Can't wait to start practicing!
Very helpful video! I'm looking to clean up some Chasseur Escoffier copper pots that I've had for years. Can you help me to choose the right compound and buffer? The short story is that I accidentally burnt one of the pots by putting on some water to boil a few eggs, then lay down on the sofa and fell asleep (of course!!)... Woke up the next day to find the pot still on the stove and completely black!! Thankfully the pot seems structurally OK-no warping! I've got a fair way in restoring it using Bar Keeper's Friend, a lot of elbow grease, and time. But there are still a lot of black fleck marks on it still and the copper has dulled a lot. I'm looking to purchase a bench polishing wheel to fix this one up.... and, of course, keep it to touch up the pots to a beautiful shine every year or two. If you have any suggestions on what combination of wheel and compound would most suit the job, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know!
And they say having a snooze is good for you! (not for your copper pots though) Yes, if you use a little Yellow Dialux on a felt bob, disc, mop or wheel in a hobby rotary tool this will clean the copper up nicely and bring it back to a shine.www.eternaltools.com/dialux-polishing-compound Drop us a line at Eternal Tools www.eternaltools.com/contact-us if you'd like to chat more about this. Thanks Katie!
Have been thinking about trying to remove the fine, everyday scratches & then polish my Hamilton Khaki King stainless wristwatch case. I have a flex-tool and an assortment of the radial abrasive wheels. I understand the blue #400 grit wheels are a decent "All-purpose" grit? Perhaps then follow up with the usual progression of grits? Appreciate this tutorial, very well done and interesting!
Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, always use a progression of grits unti your reach the final polished effect you're looking to achieve. Drop us a line at sales@eternaltools.com if you need more advice.
Dialux green will work on chrome, and also EVE Chrom polishers: www.eternaltools.com/eve-chrom-plus-polishers. We have other options for Chrome polishing too so drop us a line at Eternal Tools for further info.
Grey for pre-polish, Green for final polish. You coudl alos try the EVE Chrom polishers, specifically designed for Titanium, Chrome and Platinum: www.eternaltools.com/eve-chrom-plus-polishers
To polish glass you will need to use diamond based products. We highly recommend using diamond paste on a felt bob or wheel in a rotary tool (there's further usage tips on our product page): www.eternaltools.com/diamond-polishing-paste (Dialux will not work, they are only for metals and acrylics) Good luck with the project
Hey Dave! Thank you so much for the very informative and helpful video. I have a question.. I have a piece of pure C110 copper that has a few scratches and small gouges.. What would you recommend to remove these imperfections and give it a nice shine? Thanks again
Hi, I make knives and always polish the handle at the end. But I have a hard time finding the right polishing paste for my materials. Can you recommend something for polishing stabilized wood, mammoth tusk, antlers, horns and bones?
Try diamond paste for bone and hard woods. eternaltools.com/products/diamond-polishing-paste We have lots of diamond polishers in all forms (paper, cloth, flexible sheet, paste, rubber-impregnated burrs..) at Eternal Tools, so do contact us directly if you need more advice. (sales@eternaltools.com) (Dialux are best used for metals and acrylics)
It's always best to use little and keep re-applying. There's no golden rules, so feel your way through the work. If it looks as though it's not polishing up as you intended, you may need to go back to the pre-polish stage before the final polish.
There are a number you can use for stainless steel. Take a look at the product info here to find out more:www.eternaltools.com/dialux-polishing-compound
Thank you, but I don't want to polish, I want to clean mineral deposits from glass. I've tried with a Dremel, wool tips, and the red/brown Dremel polish and it doesn't work. Do you know of a polish that might remove mineral deposits but not damage the glass?
Hi Peter, you will need to use diamond tools for the removal of material from glass. We have a wide variety available at Eternal Tools from diamond burrs, cloth, paste, hand pads, impeganted rubber, sheets and more. `it depends on the application and the piece you're working on - please mail us at sales@eternaltools.com and we can help further
Cerium Oxide is what you need and a felt pad. but before using that, i had great success using Meguiars M205 Ultra finishing Compound on a thin felt pad using my porter cable 7424xp polisher. It removed horrible water spots that were all over my car windows due to sprinklers.
So I am just getting into polishing my own jewelry because I want that shine from my silver chains back, what would you suggest, the white? Or the yellow? And what bits am I looking for when it comes to the dremel
Yellow for pre-polish and white for final polish. However, if you want to clean all the intricate inbetween bits of your silvr chain you'd be best to use a radial disc polisher, something such as 3M radial discs: www.eternaltools.com/3m-radial-bristle-polishing-discs or the EVE radial discs, specifically designed for gold and silver: www.eternaltools.com/eveflex-radial-pumice-twist-polishing-discs
Personally for polishing aluminium I would just use a buffing stick or polishing pads such as a Horotec Buff stick: www.eternaltools.com/horotec-abrasive-buff-stick (also see the video on this product page) or something such as the Micro Mesh Soft Touch hand pads (again, see the video on this page a well) www.eternaltools.com/micro-mesh-soft-touch-sanding-pads
