One correction I need to make: this bar DOES NOT have free shipping. This fact doesn't change my opinion of the bar and it's still a killer price. I hope to see a lot of these in home gyms as it's a fantastic value even with the added shipping cost. - Coop

Hey my man. I bought the 250$ titan wall mount pully you reviewed 11 days ago. I forgot to use your link, but I emailed titan explaining the situation and I only bought it cause of your review and asked if they will give you your share. They said they'd look into so I hope you got it.

Great review - definitely need more reviews on some of the emerging names like Giant, Bridge Built etc. so thank you for the ones you've done so far. All anyone looking at these newer brands really wants to know is how does the quality, functionality and robustness compare to the more established names. Thanks again!

I already have the REP Open Trap Bar, but Giant does offer really good equipment in general. I have a set of their DBs, and some other items I really like. And they’re kind of local to me, so I can pick up from them.

When I moved to Seattle 5 years ago a friend recommended giant and have replaced my entire gym (rack, bars, dumb bells etc) with their stuff. Zero issues. Giant has great people, solid stuff and great company. Can’t recommend their gear enough.

I have had this bar now for a good month, and I will say it is a very solid bar. I love using it. The one thing I did change out were the Allen screws. I don’t like them as they strip easily. I replaced them with hex bolt. Size used for loading pins: 10mm x 1.50 x 20mm x 10.89. Size used for handles: 10mm x 1.50 x 25mm x 10.89. I was able to get the bar on sale delivered to my door at $300. Worth the $100 dollar savings for me.

Compared this and the REP. If I was going to be the only one using it I would have gone with the Giant. I have a paddling team I train so the little advantages of the REP made it worth the step up in price. Very happy with the REP, but the Giant Northland looks like a great value.

In this day and age, if you are in a big city it is a good idea to check local retailers. There are some local options in the Toronto area for instance, so you can pick up to avoid shipping (or it is reasonable since the place is close). Personally, I got the Bells of Steel industrial trap bar at a lower price than this one as it was on sale and I could pick it up from their warehouse close to me. There are also a number of small companies in the larger city area with good deals.

My shoulders feel SO good when I bench with it.
I can’t use a straight bar to bench, without feeling discomfort in my shoulders.
…and the way the bar has “cutouts” in the center of the bar, makes it awesome for barbell military press as well. (The cutouts let your head clear the frame without doing weird neck moves. Lol!)

2024 and I watched Coop's Full 2024 review. I keep going between Rep & Giant. I think I would use the camber function a lot. I am not that wide, so I don't know if I would hassle taking the Reps handles off between camber squats and deadlift. So, even with fix handles and no middle knurling, could a person camber with the Giant with minimum hassle? I wish I could put my hands on one or both of these for demo...

This bar is almost perfect except for a really obvious design problem that makes the handles incredibly prone to spinning/rotating. The method of mounting effectively puts the handles on an axle and with slick interfaces makes them very likely to rotate. While this can be managed (at least so far) by using lock washers squeezed in between…this seem like a very bad design with a hokey remedy. Future versions NEED some level of interlock between the frame and the handles. I continue to worry my handles are going to spin on my max lifts…which tempers my confidence in this bar.

would you use something like this or the titan rickshaw farmers walk to put into a general outpatient Physical Therapy clinic to have patients do general functional moves? Won't have a rack or anything, and was about to order the titan rickshaw until you released this video. Usually would just be the bar/rickshaw without extra weight to get patients who have zero body awareness or are older to learn how to lift items correctly.

So the Northland isn't great for squatting, but how is it for good mornings? I would imagine the handles wouldn't quite get in the way like they would for squats.

Works fine for good mornings. Handles are a non-issue. - Coop

Coop: "The bar that I think you should compare this to is (literally everything but the Vulcan Ox Bar)."
Vulcan Ox Bar: (as a literal clone of this bar in almost every aspect) "WTF, man?"

GGR, I am living in Europe for the next 2 years and won't be back to the states till then. Any chance you guys could look into equipment (specifically specialty bars) that are sold here in Europe (non Swedish)? Looking for some budget options here. 99% of vendors in the states don't ship to Germany.
    Thanks

I think ATX and Mirafit would be an option in Europe.

Bells of Steel sells an open trap bar for $299 CAD. Which is roughly $225 USD.

Do you have the BoS trap bar? I've read complaints of the opening being too narrow as well as the bar tipping over (when loading) due to the closeness of the jack feet.

@@sl1237 I find it works pretty well, for me at least. I'm not a huge dude so the opening doesn't really bother me, and my deadlift stance is narrow anyway. I'd say if you're lifting over 400 for reps comfortably then yeah, the cheaper BoS OTB is probably not ideal, but for a dude in his garage that is essentially a hobbyist lifter, its MORE than sufficient. And the price is hard to beat.
