As a Korean avgeek who lives in Jeju, I'm excited that somebody's actually making a video about the GMP - CJU route Fun fact: Jeju has a route to almost all domestic airports in South Korea
What’s amazing is CJU is basically a single runway operation for both arrival and departure. There is a second runway but it has a very limited operation envelope.
I flown on the Seoul Gimpo to Jeju route on Asiana Airlines, the flight to Jeju on an A330-300 and the return on the 767-300. The tourism there is so good, no wonder why it has many flights operated by all the Korean carriers.
Beijing-Shanhai now won't be busiest plane route anymore, the high speed train take over is really fast. 600+ sets of train in both direction daily, 4-6 hours one way travel time. Busan is the same thing because you didn't count the KTX into the play.
I had a friend who would use his SW Airlines job to bring buddies from Chicago-MDW to Vegas. Just for a weekend. For dudes in their twenties, that was like being a King lol
The low cost option of vacation for Seoul inhabitants seems to be Da Nang in Vietnam, also a beach city. There's 98 flights a week between the 2 cities, more than Seoul to Vietnam's economic capital Saigon (84) and Vietnam's political capital Hanoi (83).
I was in Da Nang 2 years ago and it felt like 40% of tourists there were Indians, another 40% were Koreans and everyone else was the remaining 20%. I’m probably exaggerating, but it felt like that.
Attended a conference on Jeju in July. Beautiful area! I don't completely understand the lack of any flights from ICN though. I get Gimpo is much more of a domestic hub, but it is time consuming for international visitors to get off at ICN, get on a train (or bus) for ~45 minutes, and re check-in and go back through security at GMP. If it's a ploy to get tourists to spend time in Seoul, it worked, but it made my trip as a whole more time consuming and expensive. Having a small handful of the zillion gmp-cju flights leave from ICN instead would've smoothed the trip and connection out significantly.
ICN has WAY too many problems for flights to Jeju. The entire right and left wing of ICN is owned by Korean and Asiana Airlines, so they would have to use the central section of the airport, which is expensive, and is too mall to handle the capacity.
I heard the government strategically limited the roles of each airport. When ICN opened, all the international routes were moved to ICN and only short int'l routes and domestic routes remained at GMP. Plus GMP has curfew so it seems logical I guess. But yeah I don't understand why there is no ICN-CJU flight...? like they have something called 내항기 that connects ICN to other domestic airports.
The only airstrip that's actually close to seoul is for military only. ICN is located too far from Seoul. Korean bureaucracy is absurd and it's infested with North Korean spies.

There is actually a ferry route (again) between Seoul and Jeju (it's starting from Incheon harbor), but it's in no way competitive in terms of time & price to air travel
To summarize, as you can see on the map, Jeju Island is not a land under the Korean Peninsula, but an island, so roads or railroads are not connected. There is a way to drill the undersea tunnel, but it is not easy because the distance is surprisingly long. In the case of Busan, the second city, there is little need to take a plane because the railroad is well installed, while the way to go from Seoul to Jeju Island is by boat or plane. However, because airplanes are cheap and much faster, people traveling from Seoul to Jeju Island or from Jeju Island to Seoul use this Gimpo-Jeju route a lot. In particular, Koreans are busy because they like to travel very much. Of course, recently, they have not traveled to Jeju Island as much as before in Korea, but they still do a lot, so the title of the world's busiest air route is rarely broken.
The NYC/New York/JFK to London (Heathrow) route. I've known folks who fly that route for a Friday-through Sunday 'weekend vacation' in London. Its about a 4-hour flight, faster than NYC to the USA's west coast. A lot of NYC folks also fly to London for Christmas shopping trips. And Paris was only about a half-hour longer flight. Like Seoul/Jegu its another interesting travel route. Another that used to be popular is surfers on the USA west coast would fly to Hawaii (5 hour flight from Los Angeles or San Francisco) for a Thursday-Sunday surf trip if they knew some good waves were going to be hitting the Hawaiian shoreline.
In what world is New York London EVER four hours???? It's always between 7-9 and longer than any flight from nyc to the US west coast. Not sure what you're talking about.

It is sure that the last is the fastest way but the price would be 1.5 ~2 times higher than KTX It seems that the price looks reasonable. But you can go to Busan much more often. There are over 20 KTX trains per a day to Busan. Also the KTX was open and first adopted 20 years ago, 2004. I remembered that the price was quite high and non affordable to everyone. It could be a gossip to your schoolmates that you took KTX once or much more times. However, Gdp per capita increased over double. Also the ticket of price doesnt show dramatic increase. Im not sure of exact number but it might be only about 20% increase from 2004 to now. The growing demand of corporating one-day life, relative low price and increased personal wealth skyrocketed the usage of KTX and thats why the fligh from Seoul to Jeju is kinda low
I think he meant affordable to fly to, tickets from the mainland to Jeju are fairly inexpensive. Although honestly, I've visited Jeju twice and the cost of being there is pretty comparable to the rest of South Korea. Of course Vietnam, or any other SE Asian nation, is cheaper if you're planning to stay longer than just a few days.

Cook's cartographer used the phonetic spelling as he heard it from the native Hawaiians and used the letter "W". Since the British also had the letter "V", if that's how the cartographer heard it, that's how he would have written it, but he didn't because he heard it with the "W" sound.@@Broadvay
Crazy thing is that Korean airliners reduced the number of flights to Jeju so that they could make more money from longer international flights. Latest news says so...
No international flight route would be anywhere near the busiest in the world, JFK to London,. NO WAY. Not even close. But, you might consider doing a video on the busiest international flight routes. Take care!

Seoul Metropolitan area has a population of 25M, and they don't have a domestic vacation place except for Jeju. Also, Jeju island itself has a population of 0.6M, and they regularly visit their families in the mainland.
What you said in the video is just one reason of 2. The other reason is, flights heading south from Seoul is also using the exact same route since both Y711 and Y722 passes right over Jeju.
There are so many better naturally beautiful vacation spots in South Korea, you wrote it as if Jeju is the only place. It is just that Jeju is an island so you cant ride a train or car there. Simple.
Unless the destination can attract an equal no. of tourists from countries with different school holiday periods? E.g. Singapore's longest school holidays are in June & Dec, about 1 & 0.5 month earlier than many other countries
Jeju is so popular, Koreans are flocking to Phu Quoc and other island resorts as an alternative. Jin Air’s PHQ route was upgraded to 777 on some flights for NW24 season
Pronouncing Hawaii "Hah Veh Ee" is like speaking in English but saying "Paree" (Paris), "Mooonchen" (Munich) or "Masskva" (Moscow). "Oh but it's pronouncing it the CORRECT way" - uh no, in English, it's Hawaii. The Turks recently told the world to stop calling them Turkey and instead Turkiye (Turr-key-yeah). Funny, as they continue to call England > (WRONG and OffenSiVe!!!) Different languages have different ways of pronouncing and naming places, and that is okay. Hawaii is pretty similar to Hahvahee, it doesn't achieve anything other than false virtue.
I think it depends imo. As a native Japanese I will pronounce Japanese cities and words in native pronunciation even if I'm speaking in english. Either way, I think if someone get's genuinely offended by someone using their native pronunciations I think there's something wrong with them. It's such a weird thing to get pressed about.

Cook's cartographer used the phonetic spelling as he heard it from the native Hawaiians and used the letter "W". Since the British also had the letter "V", if that's how the cartographer heard it, that's how he would have written it, but he didn't because he heard it with the "W" sound.@@Broadvay

KL - Singapore ?
The absolutely worst landing I’ve ever had was on this route. My only moment that I thought I was going to die on an airplane.
0:32 looks as dense as VATSIM cross-fire event. I would suggest that to VATKOR.
Crazy thing is that Korean airliners reduced the number of flights to Jeju so that they could make more money from longer international flights. Latest news says so...
this isn't complicated.. Jeju is a nice place and lots of people want to go there.. there are lots of people in Seoul..
*I've filmed full flights of gimpo to jeju on the 747, it's mostly couples going there from Seoul*
Yeah, I think it's where most South Koreans go for honeymoons.
you broke that down bro
Why are comparing a domestic route with an international NYC-London route? 😂 maybe comparing it to NYC-LA would make more sense
No international flight route would be anywhere near the busiest in the world, JFK to London,. NO WAY. Not even close. But, you might consider doing a video on the busiest international flight routes. Take care!
Jfk to London Heathrow.
1. British airways
2. Virgin Atlantic
3. JetBlue
4. American Airlines
5. Delta
It’s very busy, and this is just jfk to London Heathrow. Now add any airport in the New York área to any airport in loneonS
the busiest international route is actually KLIA and Changi
@@SYDAirlineEnthusiast
With Newark, LaGuardia, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton taken into consideration (although some don't fly to New York/London), we get...
1. British Airways
2. Virgin Atlantic
3. American Airlines
4. Delta Air Lines
5. JetBlue
6. Norse Atlantic Airways
7. United Airlines
@@QWER-wv5kn In the US it takes $2k for an economy round trip to Seoul every single time, its so pricy to go back
Havaii?
Why are you comparing NYC to London with a domestic flight? Wouldn't NYC to LAX be a better comparison for the US?
When it comes here in the Philippines, it's the MNL-CEB flight.
2:10 well obviously because there's a train to busan...
I took that route 6 years ago.
Video begins at 2:51
Seoul Metropolitan area has a population of 25M, and they don't have a domestic vacation place except for Jeju. Also, Jeju island itself has a population of 0.6M, and they regularly visit their families in the mainland.
2:40 Yes, U.S. has a lot of places for a vacation like the Caribbean and Cancun.
Philippines we have the busiest domestic route
Manila-Cebu-Manila
half of those flights are taken by kdrama production crews😂
😂😂
Cuz nobody wants to live permanently in Je-ju except the local Jejulites in S. KOREA ; They need to commute from Jeju to Seoul 😅
What you said in the video is just one reason of 2. The other reason is, flights heading south from Seoul is also using the exact same route since both Y711 and Y722 passes right over Jeju.
Because Jeju is the only domestic tourist destination in the country.
Simple.
Only knew about jeju thanks to l dramas 😂
Move Seoul to Jeju, problem solved.
until 2000s Jeju was go to place of honey moon for newly married couples.
제주시에서 서귀포 : 한시간 반
제주시에서 서울시 : 한시간 반
@5:37, of course there are ferrys from Seoul to Jeju.. made up facts
비행기와 기차를 타고 백두산과 개마고원을 여행할 날이 있을까? 그렇게 생각하면 생각보다 한국의 영토는 작은편이 아니라고 생각한다
There are so many better naturally beautiful vacation spots in South Korea, you wrote it as if Jeju is the only place. It is just that Jeju is an island so you cant ride a train or car there. Simple.
But... Wouldn't that make jeju busy seasonally? Surely tourism doesn't bring air traffic at a steady year round rate
Unless the destination can attract an equal no. of tourists from countries with different school holiday periods? E.g. Singapore's longest school holidays are in June & Dec, about 1 & 0.5 month earlier than many other countries
You missed mackerel sashimi. For shame.
The worst is people who come back from their Spanish vacation saying "Barthelona" for the first time in their lives. Very condethending.
I am korean!
koreans love Jeju-do
How many times can I say Hawaii challenge impossible
Jeju is exp
Ha-Vaa-ii 🤔
Why are you saying Hawaii like that
When you go to Jeju airport, you can feel it is damn so crowded.
The capacity is so full that they are building a 2nd airport on the southern coast (2035 open).
Learn english.
Why tf does he say havai
what about Sydney to Melbourne?
Why are you saying Hawaii like that you melt
Stop pronouncing Hawaii like that
Singapore - KL is one of the busiest but doesn't even make your list, something isn't right!
Nope, if you check the statistics, even when considering international and domestic routes together, KUL-SIN is not within top 10 for passenger count.
@cpux64 if you just go on international it's top, not if you include domestic too.
@@swankeyvader That's the point, it's only on the top of you're only considering international routes
Honestly, if Tokyo - Osaka or Beijing - Shanghai would easily beat this if there are no high speed rail in Japan or China.
0:20 670 flights per week
Hey, it still works :/
