These kits take me back ,I can remember when I was only little I used to buy them from my local toy shop then they were sold in a clear plastic bag with a picture of the model on a thin cardboard attached to the top and if I remember correctly they cost the princely sum of 1 shilling and nine pence rising to two shillings for these little kits ( that’s 10 pence in todays money)
Cheers It's a great kit I just think quality control in India is very poor and in all honesty I would rather pay a bit more for a kit and get good quality parts
Hi, I am a new subscriber, I thought that you did a very good job of the Tomahawk, I have heard that it is a good kit but it would appear that you were unlucky to get a poor example. I have one in the stash and I'm tempted to build it over the Christmas holiday, thanks for the review.
Very nice work. I am currently building this 1:48 scale plane from Monogram. Good old set. I subscribe and look forward to more videos. Best regards, Ales 🙂👍
Nice work and enjoyable video with good tips. Which compass cutter do you use. I can only find ones with 1cm being the smallest circle which seems large to me. Especially with small wheel hubs. Thanks matey😊
Good review, thanks. I make up toy soldier sets to give away to less well of folks and for a toy aircraft having a prop that will rotate is essential (for kids at any rate - Fond memories from the 1960s, riding along on my bike with the props spinning). So I may have to make a replacement part there. Agree about the shark mouth decals.
@@yorkshiremanmodels I got mine from the newsagents where I had a paper round, the lady running the place was seemingly baffled at all of us earning money and spending it all on kits. A friend once told me that when he was a lad his mum couldn't understand why his clothes were in a pile to free up room in the wardrobe for his precious kits (he did a lot of 54mm figures and very well).
Another great build on the Tomahawk shame about the problems with the clear coat. You would think Airfix would ditch that cement and go like Italeri starter sets they actually supply liquid cement in their starter sets
@@yorkshiremanmodels They could even supply the humbrol poly with the applicator needle like Revell do with their kits so much more precise when applying glue
@@davidjones1588 since when do airfix listen to what modellers want?.....if they really cared they would have dumped that glue LONG ago and would include a wide brush with the starter sets....
Evening buddy im new to this having built 3 kits all Airfix starter sets with the spitfire being the most recent i hand painted it and it looks shite lol can you recommend a good not too expensive air compressor and air brush ? Im in South Yorkshire do you know any good model shops in this neck of the woods ?? Cheers pal
Sorry pal just seen your question The best starter airbrush and compressor is probably a cordless version You can pick one up for around 50 quid or so but you need to make sure it's a dual action one I have a video up on one I still use today that's worth a look and if you can get one similar it should be fine And nearly all the good model shops are now shut though one near Doncaster is still open but it's quite small
This a great kit...built 2 of them but you need to be carefull when buying these starter sets and if you can buy it from a shop were the staff know you so you can open the box and CHECK the contents BEFORE you buy.. yes i know its easier said than done and i didnt do it....the reason i say this is when i got home from buying the 2nd kit and opened the box i found to my horror the glue, paints, paint brush and decals were ALL MISSING.....whoever packaged it into the box in the factory left them all out
@@yorkshiremanmodels was it meant to be included and iis it shown on the parts layout?....1 once bought a draken from misterkit and it too had the entire cockpit interior missing (tub, instrument panel, control stick and seat)...thought they must have fallen out somewhere along they way but when i looked at the parts layout they ate NOT shown on the diagram despite the fact instructions DO shown them being inserted into the kit

my first kits where also airfix in the clear bags and used to buy them from the local train model shop
thanks for the comments
Considering the problems with the kit you made it look great, really enjoy watching your builds.
Cheers

Looks great.

i have had a few kits over the years and got a bad one now and then
This p40 kit is such a fun little build - yours looks great!

i use the flexifile cutting compass
cuts down to 1.5mm they claim
Did you thin the kit paints with water/ IPA, airbrush thinner? Enjoy all your videos.
i tend to thin all paints and use 400 leveling thinner for most paints but will use water for acrylic paints

i remember going to buy kits when i was a child from my local model store and using my paper round money to get them

great build and paint job! just wondering which thinner would you recommend for the humbrol paints that come with the starter sets btw?
you can use water but i prefer to use either tamiya x20 or valleyo airbrush thinner
the tamiya version seems to work better in my view
Thanks mate@@yorkshiremanmodels
The things you thought were 'likkle larts', are fuel and oil filler caps. Red for fuel, yellow for oil.
after a bit of research, this 112th squadron p40 actually had a red propeller
didnt know this
thanks for letting me know
Hi, how did you make the panel line paint ?
i usually make mine out of oil paints and white spirit or similar thinners
