I'm really enjoying your videos! We picked up our 2nd Yorkie almost a month ago and while our 6 year old girl never really enjoyed fetch, our new pup (Bow) has way more energy so hoping to train her to play. It's always fun to see other people's ideas on how to train different things :) I'm enjoying your channel a lot!
Thank you so much! Yes, I definitely wanted to make this puppy series as authentic and real as possible. My little Nova is definitely not perfect but we're working on it every day! :)
Nova is soo cute me and my sister got a shorkie but hers is more shih tzu and mine is more Yorkie he looks just like nova when she was smaller I’m having trouble with him biting people that try petting him
I just got a puppy, like 5 days ago (Her name is Roxi and she's a maltipoo) and your videos have been helping me very much. By the way love Nova sooooooo much❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍😍😍😍❤️❤️😍
She’s so cute and I’m getting a puppy very soon and I want to be all prepared I’ve done lots of research and watched many videos but your videos are the most helpful and I loved watching your vlogs when ya got nova first thanks for helping me and teaching me so much you and nova are AMAZING and are both really pretty💕
Awww good video! I love watching her grow! The way you play tug is exactly how I play tug with my pup. The reward in “drop it” is my marker word then more play. And don’t worry about your exciting puppy voice, I’m pretty sure I sound very crazy in public when training. Lol.
Haha I already hate listening to the sound of my own voice and this puppy voice has got me cringing even harder at myself! Thanks for always watching and leaving helpful comments Jeff! :)
@@vlogswithvic My pup is about 3-4 weeks older so I enjoy watching your videos and successes. We use a trainer and she's like "you have to be more embarassingggggg...keep happy talking!!!" I'm waiting for the heel walking video! It's the first thing I'm actually struggling with, but I think it's more of the height difference. I'm also very happy that you are using a positive reinforcement method! Keep up the good work!
i like your videos about nova~ Nova is such a cute dog! Do you have to cut her fur too? Or doesn't it growing that long? I hope to maybe get a puppy next summer as well. A mini Yorkshire. Because my mother-in-law wants to have her dog mated. (Sorry for my bad english! >x
Any advice for a puppy that doesn't stop biting you and drawing blood? i used the 'yelping' trick but she plays harder, bites harder and she's only 5 pounds! what damage can she do? people would be surprised lol! she bites my face when we play and bites when we rub her!
Yikes! That sounds painful but good on you for trying to stop that as soon as possible! Whenever Nova bites me even if it doesn't hurt I always say UH UH to deter her and then give her something that is okay to bite like a chew toy. Once she is biting that instead then I praise her. If she continues to bite or jump on me then I physically turn away from her or walk away from her and remove myself to show her that if she is going to keep doing that then I don't want to play with her or give her attention which is what she wants. We are still working on this but she is getting a lot better at not biting so maybe this will help a little for you as well? Haha littles ones are adorable but have big personalities
milly tilva Yelping is not the way you should teach a dog to not bite. Firstly, you’re not a litter mate. Secondly, have you noticed that dogs love squeaky toys? You’re conditioning your pup to think your hands are chew toys. People always give the yelping advice, although it may work for a select few, for others it encourages the biting and causes other behavior issues. In a proper puppy preschool, we heavily focus on fear and aggression. This means the class is heavily focused on socialization and bite inhibition. We did two activities for bite inhibition. The first one is to teach your dog the different pressures of their bite. This comes in handy when they take treats out of your finger. My dog can do it with the gentlest nibble. The second is teaching your dog that there is zero tolerance to teeth to skin contact during play time. Keep in mind in order to teach both of these, you need to encourage the biting. I’ll describe how to do the second one since that’s what you have a question about. Rough house your puppy and try to make him bite you (it has to be during play). When he does, remove your hands right away and say a warning cue. Mine is “uh oh.” Then, resume play after ten seconds. When the bite happens a second time, remove your hands and say “time out.” Go to a place where your dog can’t reach you (like on top of a chair or on your bed). Ignore the puppy for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Anything more than a minute is overkill and your puppy won’t remember what they did wrong. Afterwards, you resume play. Eventually , your pup will learn that if I bite mommy/daddy, play ends, and I don’t like that. It took my puppy three warning cues and two “time outs” to change this behavior. In this activity, the reward is play, no biting equals exciting play. Timeout is taking away the reward. Biting equals play stops. This is the only instance I use timeouts. Do not use it for potty mistakes, or anything like that. For those types of behaviors, you ignore the bad and reward the good,
Jeff thank you for this advice! i will definitely be trying this method out tomorrow and commenting another reply to this to update you on if it works or not thank you so much :)
