Most times the drivers didn't change much performance wise, but the turnip drivers would crash the device constantly - no drivers was the most stable. I'm confident there's people out there that will try a million different combinations of drivers + firmware + emulator versions + more to make each game playable or better, but I'm not that person. Thanks for the great coverage of the Retroid 5, Joey! You mentioned you used the Turnip drivers, I found on both my Odin Pro (SD845) and Pimax Portal (SD865+) that Turnip drivers rarely helped and usually made things worse in Yuzu. Instead you can try using the Pojav/Qualcomm v0615vxx driver's in Yuzu/Sudachi for best results if you haven't already, it makes a massive difference.

At least Steam has better prices and Valve doesn't run for its fans and emulation enthusiasts with a gun. Currently I have an Odin 2 Pro, and even with that i had to make several tweaks to get things running right. Having the right emulator and drivers helps. For instance sudachi didnt work well for me, but yuzu did. The regular qualcomm drivers helped but then i also use turnip driver 24.1.0 Test R18 version and assigned the drivers on a per game settings. For the RP5, you will definitely need to do a lot of tweaks to get things running right.
I own the odin 2 (base) and yeah switch emulation is a pain in the @ss with all those tweaking ..the best way to play switch games is to the console itself💯

It's definitely the usual Switch shenanigans. I have no doubt some of the not able to load games, can be, by finding some weird combination of other drivers + firmware + emulator. But honestly, who has the time.

And I understand that many want to run the Switch exclusives on this handheld, but for my use the Switch Emulator will mainly serve to run indie, pixel art, 2D or Isometric games, the Switch stole the title of best platform for indie games that was previously PSVITA. Isn't the problems you show at Kirby and smash that the shader cache gets build? Since when you do up b the ability doesn't lag out same when you reuse abilities with Kirby.
I'm pretty sure. I actually finished kirby on my tablet with the same chipset. It kept randomly crashing like every hour, and at some places it ran kinda slow, but what he's showing is shader cache, the more you play the better it runs. Again, I finished the game

Definitely agree with using a switch for switch. Did you try using older turnip drivers? I saw another video with someone using older ones and they seemed to have better luck with some games.
I have the Odin 2 Pro(still very unstable, just android in general). I just use the ROG Ally X because of Ryujinx stability on Windows. Ryujinx was so close to releasing on Android. I was waiting patiently for the release but when I heard of it being shut down. :( :( :(
I mean bare in mind the review units are the ones Retroid said might have issues because it's not the up-to-date firmware yet. That's why they delayed the public release by 1-2 weeks

I feel like this would be a downgrade coming from an Odin 2. It's why I preordered the Odin Portal. That said for the price and what you're getting Retroid knocked it out of the park.
Of course it's a downgrade, the Odin is just shy of Steamdeck money, this is clearly aimed at luring in budget minded consumers who want something that's not as much of a risk to take outside, I have to say it's working. If we could just reduce some of the tinkering that you have to do it'd be close to perfect.* (*for the price)

Like you're right if you include refurbished pricing, but base model odin 2 and base model steam deck are 100 dollars apart, and base model odin 2 and base model oled steam deck are like 150 dollars apart. The steam deck also won't be able to do native android gaming, so there's pros and cons to both. I already have a steam deck lcd and I got an odin 2 portal because of the significantly better screen, android os, and high refresh rate. I can pick and choose between them if I want to play emulation or streaming, or if I want to play my pc games on the go natively. I can also just stream them to the odin 2 portal, but sometimes the input lag isn't good enough for certain games, or you just want to play retro games outside of the house

Also, I'm pretty sure people have gotten android running on Steamdeck, I haven't looked into just how well because i don't care to do it.
Pretty sure the jank is coming from the fact that you're on Android. If you installed Linux, something like Bazzite, then you'd get much better performance for Switch Emulation

It being able to play indie switch games is enough for me, people will find out fixes for the higher-end games. I've been a mobile player all my life so being able to play any mobile game on high performance is already a plus. Emulation below switch-level is top-notch as well soooo
the RP 5 has aprox. double the power of the switch, so theoretically since we do just translation and not full emulation it could with enough optimisations and improvements run all switch games without problems possibly even in docked mode (but that is gonna happen in 5 to 10 years )
Little point in spending hours fiddling with settings when many of the big titles will never provide anything more than a crappy experience. modded switch or steam deck (or similar) is the way to go.

It's best to stream from pc to a handheld device . Use a gamesir controller or similar. And use software parsec, moonlight. It's the best way. Decent WiFi connection needed preferably WiFi 6

SUDACHI crasches all the time on my Odin 2. I have try different builds, drivers, firmwares even the newest mainline app version too. I have switched back to YUZU 278 works much stable.
Honestly, just the fact that Switch emulation works this well in general is impressive. It feels like it's a software patch or two away from fixing a lot of those games.

but still for RP5 its playable under 0.5x resolution

The blurry screen when testing bayonetta can be fixed by using the turnip gpu drivers. I had a similar issue with crash bandicoot 4 on my z fold 5

Well, it works fine for me. I mean, I am only interested in indie games (that I usually own on switch or steam) and I think it will do the job enough.
Im just looking for a small quality nostalgic handheld retro console that can run up to gc 3ds PS2 well and at this point the rp5 GC color seems to be the best pick

Such a shame that Nintendo killed Yuzu and Ryujinx because clearly the chips can handle it, it just needs more development
In time some forks will develop behind the scenes that will fix this issue

I played switch games on my onexplayer. No complain so far..
Probably it's the emulator, on EGG NS mario galaxy is more than playable on a snap 870, and mario wonder works great
