Hi. My name is Barbara, born and raised in Slovenia and I have been living on and off the US for the past 8 years. I came here as a student and have been based in Los Angeles, CA ever since. I have lived in South Carolina and Santa Cruz as well, I was on a working/travel visa in 2012 and 2013. I have visited over 15 states so far and got to see the difference in cultures in Europe and the US. Now I make videos talking about cultural shocks, what Europeans find weird about Americans and vise versa, discussing stereotypes, Slovenian culture and language and documenting my life abroad. :)

I went to Slovenia in 2017 for the Metaldays festival in Tolmin, and wow! what a lovely place, on the confluence of 2 rivers, and I was definitely fitter when I came back than when I went because of all the hills! We went to the Tolmin gorges too which was absolutely enchanting, and spent a day in Ljubljana, which was really pretty and full of character!
The people were lovely as well, really friendly and welcoming.
    Highly recommend!
And the coffee - I had one little coffee in Ljubljana, I swear I was unable to blink for 2 hours, I was so awake!
Also can confirm the limitation on dance moves is not confined to Balkan men - We Scots are about the same with the dancing 😃

The geographical border of Balkan are Soča, Sava and Danube. Therefore, Slovenia is both, Central European and Balkan country, a bit of both and I'm proud of both. Some Slovenes want to distance themselves from Balkan but that's what we are.

true american story regarding school hierarchy. 3 teens boys went out drinking and ended up running a stop sign "ending" a pregnant mother and her baby. all 3 were convicted of vehicular homicide. when it came time for sentencing the judge postponed the sentence of 2 of the boys because they were football stars and the judge said; "it would be unfair to punish the entire community for these 2 boys mistakes." presumably the 3rd boy was on the band and recieved a harsher sentence, not deferred.

    Whatsup Little Squirrelie.
Eating sunflower seeds was normal when i was young, but rarely see anyone doing it here anymore.
What in Carmen Sandiego's name is cay?
Being loud is what some other European countries can be as well liek Germany or Netherlands.
Old clocks in a lot of old ppl's houses, the grandparents on my father's side did have 1 as well. But was in living room and not bed rooms. They did have big outside cage thing in backyard. The bedrooms were guest slept were on that side.
Still Batman and Robin isn't the worst superhero movie in years. But i do want early 90's back, as younger brother was still alive than.
I have never seen a bottle like that. I have seen glass ones with a ball that is used 2 mix it with the water, i found 2 flavours of it, i still own the 2 bottles.
The you know is she is Balkan girl thing looks 2 normal 2 me, i am clearly missing something.
The angles she uses with the this song 1 is interesting choices.
I could buy alcohol since i was 12, but i looked like i was in mine early 20's already. I already had a mustache grown at that age.
What is a jsvan (however you spell it)?
The tsk tsk sound is pretty common in other parts of world. The EEEEEE sound sounds a lot like Italian.
I wear slippers normally a lot, unles at home were i am barefoot most time. Even last couple winters.
Mine father eat his fries with a fork and cut his burger. It always has been a weird thing 2 see. As neither common here. Some food if eaten alone it is eaten by hand, but in combo with like potatoes it is eaten with a fork, that happens with things like fishsticks.
I thought the 7 years of bad luck is universal. Well discounting the neglect parents or the spoiling type parents. I have heard that leaving up once or twice as well, but i think from movies/tv shows, so idk how accurate it is for mine country.
Some part of the popular thing is same here, funny enough. But banging a hot MILF makes you insta popular is basically everywhere, there r very few expentions were that won't happen. Although as mine middle school it was a smoll school, the cool kids did hang out with the gamers a decent time.
With OPAA i always think of Gangnam style.
Stay awesome and postive, Little Squirrelie🐿🍻.

Lemme teach you how to be the most popular kid in Slovenian schools in 2024 (POV from a Slovenian 9th grader)
    1) it’s recommended to be from other Balkan countries (such as Bosnia, Serbia or Macedonia)
    2)You need a v@pe
    3)You need a motorcycle
4)You gotta be tall and fat
5)You gotta have a buzz cut
    6)You gotta bully your teachers
7)You’ll be more popular if you skip and fail all of your classes
    8) if possible, repeat the class at least once
    9) Have at least one original and one fake tech fleece
OKAY I HOPE I HELPED, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY TO BE THE MOST POPULAR KID IN SCHOOL💪

According to geography there is no such thing as a "Balkan Penninsula".

@@ms-jl6dl Physical geography reject it because it doesn't fit the defenition of a penninsula (wrong land / water border ratio) Geopolitically it is an outdated view because Yugoslavia is gone and Ottoman empire is long gone as well. Sorry, Balkan is just a mountain range in Bulgaria and Serbia (Stara Planina). It could be also non clearly defined cultural area, mostly where Ottoman European holdings were.

My country (Romania) is not technically in the Balkans but we definitely act like it, we’re like champion sunflower seeds spitters😂 I love that guy with the “American in the Balkans” tiktoks, Adrian something, he’s hilarious.😂

Slovenia is not in Balkan. Balkan is south of rivers Sava and Donau from Belgrade on down to the Dardanels.

Sava goes through the middle of Slovenia.
But i generally put Slovenia outside Balkan because they have more connection with Austria than rest of Yugoslavia.
