Very true and I say it a lot (not in the form of an expression, though): even if you love your children and give them everything, when they become adults, they will treat you like you treated your parents. By not caring about your parents, you are basically telling your kids old people don't matter, and, well, one day you will become old...
It’s interesting to see the influence of Norse on Slovene and other Slavic languages, the word hvaljen looks just like a Norse word, same as hvala, they have the typical Norse letter combination hv and the j pronounced as an y / i sound, and some words are like the Hungarian word - I highly recommend learning Slovene 2gether with Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic / Welsh and Hungarian, as they are way too epic and pretty not to know!
we have similar in Poland, we are also Slavs, and some words are the same, we also treat "klina-klinem", which is lumber jack or carpenter's language - when you retrieve a wedge with the other wedge...

Quien a hierro mata a hierro muere. No le pidas peras al olmo. Donde manda capitán no manda marinero. Interesting books behind you. Learning weird thing ppl say should be part of any language learning. I don't like tea or coffee, i take some milk instead. Let's compare few of your sayings with the Slovak ones, although the meaning may differ: "Darovanému koňovi na zuby nepozeraj" (Don't check on teeth of horse you've got as a gift) - If you've got any gift, don't judge it and just take it as it is. "Krv nie je voda" (The blood is not a water) - the same as Slovenian. The other version with the same meaning is "Aká matka, taká Katka" (As mother, as Kate - daughter probably). "Kto sa smeje naposledy, ten sa smeje najlepšie" (Who laugh as a last one, he laughs the best) - Don't celebrate too early, someone may do things better later. "Tichá voda brehy myje" (Still water washes the banks) - The silent ones may be the most influential ones "Kto druhému jamu kope, sám do nej spadne" (Whoever is digging a hole for someone else, falls into it on his own) - If you want to do bad things to other, you're the one who will end up badly. "Klin sa klinom vybíja" (Tent peg is removed by a ten peg) - SAME! "Najprv si zamec pred vlastným prahom" (First sweep up your own doorstep) - SAME! "Lož má krátke nohy" (The lie has a short legs) - SAME, OMG! Let me add some more and quite typical Slovak sayings: "Keď mne umrela koza, susedovi musia dve!" (If my goat died, then two neighbour's goats must die, too!) - If something bad happened to me, then something worse must happen to someone else! "Ide s bubnom na zajace" (He's going to hunt rabbits with a drum) - He's very vocal with his plans and it might fail "Nehovor hop, kým nepreskočíš" (Don't say 'hop' until you jumped) - Don't celebrate too early "Dvakrát meraj, raz strihaj" (Measure twice, cut once) - Be careful before doing anything important "Nevstúpiš dvakrát do tej istej rieky" (You won't enter the same river twice) - You won't happened to be in the same situation twice "Vrana vrane oči nevykole" (A crow won't hurt other crow's eyes) - Two similar people won't hurt one another "Kto chce s vlkmi žiť, musí s nimi vyť" (Whoever want to live with wolfs, must howl with them) - If you want to belong to a certain group of people, you must follow their rules "Ráno múdrejšie večera" (The morning is wiser than evening) - Don't rush with your tasks/Take more time to think before you do something
"Blood is not water" and "Blood is Blood" have a pretty good parallel in english. " Blood is thicker than water" is a common saying in English meaning that you help your family move before you help strangers, like ex-girlfriends who are asking to use your brother's truck to move but your brother never liked your ex-girlfriend and frankly you don't like her anymore either.... ok Im not sure if that what it means but it seems like it should.

12:37 OK, "he was such a great person, snif, snif" You know in what country a certain Finnegan had the privilege of hearing those things? The other part is self explanatory.
2:47 Qui rit le vendredi pleura le dimanche. Starting with the Devil, who enjoyed seeing someone get to a Cross, but who was less happy to see Him down in Sheol, or for that matter to see Him take up so many souls from there on Easter Day. More humdrum, neglect your Friday penance and you may find your Sunday holiday less enjoyable. Petek = day five (starting with Monday), v nedeljo = on the day of rest, I presume. Pretty close to Polish, and so is smeje. And Kdor resembles który.

Three of those quite are the same as in Polish: "krew nie woda" - no idea what it means in PL, need to check; "klin klinem" and "kłamstwo ma krótkie nogi" - meaning is the same as in Slovenian. I liked the series about animals (krava, osel, bik etc)
10:43 I just say: ,,Okay, Boomer"
"V Ameriki je tuba glasnejša od lajajočega psa." Which means...Americans do not know how to play the tuba, as we in Maribor.🇸🇮
First a Barbara, then a Horvat. - Slovenian saying, probably
Whoever lought at Friday will cray on Sunday in Bosnia we Say who lough last he laugh sweetest.
Ko se zadnji smije najslađe se smije wich mean he wont be happy for long time.
Klin is wedge . wedge is driven out by wedge.
Normal Slavic expressions, totally understandable for a Ukrainian :)
Fun and good to see
and hear you BUT all
of these are in English
too and many even songs
ni se rodil, kdor se ne zmoti --- means: The one who was never wrong, was not born still.
And I translated it as such ☺️
12:37 OK, "he was such a great person, snif, snif"
You know in what country a certain Finnegan had the privilege of hearing those things?
The other part is self explanatory.
2:47 Qui rit le vendredi pleura le dimanche.
Starting with the Devil, who enjoyed seeing someone get to a Cross, but who was less happy to see Him down in Sheol, or for that matter to see Him take up so many souls from there on Easter Day.
More humdrum, neglect your Friday penance and you may find your Sunday holiday less enjoyable.
Petek = day five (starting with Monday), v nedeljo = on the day of rest, I presume. Pretty close to Polish, and so is smeje. And Kdor resembles który.
Nikoli ne stopi na led dvakrat. Ta je res hard. 🙂
Is there a Slovenian way to tell someone "May you get the worst case of hemarrhoids ever!" ?
10:44 Like having too few kids, starting with having them too late?
OMG 😱 OMG 😱 OMG 😱 OMG 😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😅😮😢🎉😂❤😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Physiologically speaking, isn't most of blood water?
Laž ima kratke noge.
Lügen haben kurze Beine.
Same in German 😅
No, I must correct you Barbara; You push your father TO the doorstep, your son will push you OVER the doorstep.
It means that ill-treatment of parents is retaliated against children by their children treating them even worse.
5:29 Could it simply be a way of telling someone "mind your own business"?
hello.. :)
Oh hi
Ni se rodil, kdor se ne zmoti, kinda says that never was someone born who cant make mistake, basically saying if you are born you will make mistakes.
And I think I explained it that as well 😁😁
@@TheBarbaraHorvat then i misunderstood you, i understood you that when you make a mistake you are truely born which to me has slightly different connotation
+
Klin se s klinom zbija. In English we have, take a shot of the hair of the dog that bit you.
not its more like: fight fire with fire :)
Yessss haha Or chase the dragon
So um, Barabara, what about that fly... then?
concerned in Slovenia
darn you Barb,

n where's the Pivo?

Any Slovenian jokes?
I'll look into those and report back 😁
Kifs hoon the vloset; roghy?
Kopriva ne pozebe!
😂 😂 😂
Vec kot 80% nikoli slišal
Rutroh... did we need therapy? 😱get out my haid
A lot of very obscure and/or very local references... Not really representative of Slovenia as a whole or even a majority...
Barb became woke. Bring back the old videos from years ago. Shame
