      Theoretically it is very much possible. The boat it self would need to be made out of a light weight wood, maybe bamboo, something durable but light. The inner structure would be aluminum and steal wires, and the engine would also need to be made of the same light weight material.
      Here is the fun part.
      It’s an air ship so you could put sails on the sides of the balloon, have them open up like fins, maybe even get really creative and have a few of them be solar sails.
      My one question is could we make the engine fuel source steam?

    This is really the best configuration, with the simple altitude control of a plane with no need of pumps, ballast or venting gas and the low stall speed of a blimp. hybrid airships are beautiful wonderful things that sadly never saw service anywhere. a good fictional example is the tiger moth from castle in the sky.

      But if it is range want you want, then batteries are NEVER the way to go.. fuel cells are the answer to that, no future technology will change that, due physics and definitions of how a fuel cell and battery work, fuel cells would be ALWAYS more cost efficient than batteries to deliver power for longer than 5 hours, and even this taking into account that fuel cells still are not mass produce yet and most breakthroughs will start to come out to the market in the next 5 years, in that moment, the 5 hours cost efficient limit to choice between one technology or the other will be 3.5 hours.

If even slightly heavier than air, an engine failure destines you to land, albeit with longer to make plans :)

    I am interested in the wing you used, any idea where I could purchase one or have a custom shape designed. I am more interested in a Delta wing, and I want to use new light weight composite components such as industrial aerogel, and instead of this configuration, I would like to use a vertical take off system with two ducted fans on a pivot that are more spaced out in distance. Just a one man, vertical lift take off vehicle that is capable of doing basically the same thing. Instead of wider, I could go taller in dirigible dimensions, or thicker if you like, with a Delta wing or lifting body design, contact me if you have any information, as to where I could buy or have something fabricated.

    It could be perfect alternative for us blimp lovers who cant afford million dollar blimps..
    One question, do you know how much would cost to create envelope for about 16m blimp which whould hold 2 people max?
    Thank you!

      Thanks for your nice comment Mason.
      It's very difficult to answer to your question. We are a Research & Development company and it depends on the number of purchase. The cost for a unique purchase will be more expensive than several purchases.
      What do you mean by 16m blimp ? 16 meter length ?

    I seem to recall a report that there is a helium shortage? Wonder if there are any other gases that could be used in this?

  • @MatthewSuffidy

    I was hoping you could make something a lot smaller with a battery, bike pedals and directable fans. I think windy days would make it impossible, but otherwise float to where you want to go. I was thinking a natural positive buoyancy that fans have to point down to overcome may be good, but it is a tight balance.

      @mino73T11 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was about to make the same question. So count one more!
      If the weight of a human powered aircraft is lightened by helium it makes things easier to achieve flight capability without being athletes; but if you have to completely cancel the weight of the ship, the balloon size becomes quite big and more susceptible to the wind. Hence this design could possibly be the ideal compromise (also good for safety)!

    • @dimitristripakis7364
      @dimitristripakis7364 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with pedals = too weak to fight even the weakest breeze. It will be blow away all over the place and there is nothing the pilot can do about it. You need at least 15 hp to power a manned vehicle in real conditions.

      For me, it is the safest aircraft ever built. Easy to pilot, with enough speed to control your trajectory, safe if you have a engine failure.... Your envelop lifts the structure by its buoyancy and it's like a parachute if you fall.
      For its design, It 's a blimp.

    i was just wondering, could you increase the lift of a helium balloon by using hot helium? makes sense to me... hot air makes balloon go up, so hot helium should make balloon go up more... could you use smaller balloons if you get some kind of heater inside em?

      The question is, will it stay in the air without any forward propulsion. Based on the fact that it has to build up speed to take off, I would think the answer is no. If that is the case, it's not an airship, it's a paraglider.
