for people struggling to find the Examples3 , it's not in there anymore. It's in this: Packages , VRChat SDK - Avatars , Samples , AV3 Demo Assets , Animation , Controllers > There they are... :D I was very confused for a long time
FOR INT PARAMETERS: If you have more than one prop toggle and you are trying to make separate gestures for each toggle using int parameters, when you're on this step 2:17, in the transition from "Idle" to your gesture animation, set the condition to "Equals" and then put in the number corresponding to the prop toggle. Then, in the transition from your gesture animation to "Idle", set the condition to "Not Equal" and then put in the same number. Make a new layer for every prop toggle and repeat these steps. When I first added my sword prop, I though, meh, It'll be fine, I'll just keep my fingers on the controller held in a fist. That got tiring pretty fast and I was walking around looking more like the sword was stuck to my hand with some gum. Ran this, worked like a champ! Thanks!
I used this tutorial to help with hand gestures during expressions. At first the expressions and hand gestures were in the same animation but that broke things so I seperated them and that worked. Good tutorial tbf.
Dude I was just wondering this the other day thank you so much. Also your 3.0 playlist helped me out so much when I was first getting back into avatar making last year.
As always, compact, concise, straight to the point, informative. Excellent work. I haven't tried this yet but seems easy enough. Edit : it works perfectly
How would I go about making a mask for both arms, like at 2:05? I would like to pose my character's arms in one position so it looks like they're holding a big object.
I did everything in the video but when i have the prop in my hand it doesnt do the animation i created, it does the default vrchat hand animations. what could be the issue?
I've followed everything you did and I seem to be having a problem. I get my pen out and my fingers are in the position's I set them in but as soon as my real fingers touch the sensors on my index the animation stops and I have control again, I don't know what I've done wrong.
Ok i am trying to attach a png to a face as a toggle. Do i need to make a seperate head or what. I know enough blender to edit the albedo but after that its all in the air.
So I know this is different but I managed to get this to work with an avatar with a gun, I just need help of how to make it shoot with this same thing. Because everything I have tried keeps doing nothing
When I hold two props at the same time, the one on my left hand overrides my right hand, so only my left hand is holding the prop, while the other is floating by the hand.
Everything works perfectly, but I noticed that now my normal hand gestures are messed up. They work, but they look different, as if the settings I made for the animation are applying to the hand at all times.
Okay very cool video, I followed the instructions word for word and everything works although whenever I use the gesture my left and right fingers stop tracking completely even if I turn off the gesture. I spent over 3 hours just trying to fix this alone, please help. Edit: Fixed the problem, turns out there is a button in the vrchat UI that turns off gestures.
Im not sure what I was doing wrong but I couldnt get it to work. I put the animation in the FX controller instead of the Gesture controller just to see what happens and now it works perfectly... odd...
when i transfer the animator controller over to my assets folder it overrides the other controller for basic toggles, how do i fix this EDIT: nvm animator screen was set to lock
Hey, I know this video is a bit old. but mind helping me fix my avatar? For some reason, when I toggle my props off, it still shows locally, but not globally. I can't figure out why I still see it in my hand, while others cannot, when it's toggled off.
Hey, do you think you can do a tutorial on how to give objects on an avatar colliders that interact with physics props? Like, let's say you have a brick and for some reason you wanna push a barrel in a vrc world that has physics. How would you do that?
Is it possible to replace the idle state as an off animation or does it have to be an idle for multiple toggles? Meaning crowbar off and crowbar on animations
Excuse me, can you make a video where I can put the HD textures? an example of how to place the most realistic and hd skin textures with the poiyomi, I would really appreciate it if you would
I can't seem to get the hand to grip my prop even after following the directions. Troubleshooting please? EDIT: Nvm I'm silly I put it on the FX controller not the gestures controller
Do you have GoGoLoco on your avatar? That was the issue for me. If you do, go into your Gesture layer and click on the mask. In the top right corner, there should be an eye icon that's got a slash over it. Click it to show the rest of your avatar masks, and make sure you're using vrc_HandRight and not go_MaskArmsNoHandsRight.
So now I know you can change the default hand to something else when a prop is toggled on, but is it possible to change the animation for, say, walking when an item is toggled on? I assume there'd be more keyframes in the animation part, but I'm otherwise kinda clueless. I'm trying to program pak legs from the show/comic Invader Zim.
I watched your last video on how to add prop toggles to an avatar. I still don't get why we have to duplicate the model each time we add something new. Between this video and the last on, I'm now up to 3 avatar models (1 original, 2 duplicates). I think I'm missing something.
Because it might break the model and it can potential be forever in the seated position like in the animation creation part. I think unity newer versions mostly fixed it but its better safe than sorry.
I had a lot going on with my avatar so I had to go into my FX layer and add conditions to all of my expressions but it worked perfectly after that! Thanks again!! Eeeeeep!
Trying to record the finger rotation in an animation, but as soon as I click away it loses all the settings, even undo will nuke all the changes! Record button is on while trying to do this, so not sure what is wrong? EDIT: Never mind, just re-watched and I'm trying to keyframe rotate each finger bone (not supported for a humanoid rig in Unity), rather than using the Animator properties!
@@raqtty i think i fixed it, the issue was with avatar manager 3.0, when i merged 2 fx layers, i dont know why or how, but it breaks the toggle, if i remake the toggle identically it works
bro, went from wands from 5 years to knuckles, can i bind the facial expression to the trackpads (the black slider button) rather than having it bonded to hand tracking, this upgrade has been devastating after learning years of operation of my avatar, its something i can control so well and has been set to be controlled with the vive wands trackpads, can i convert this ? and if so how ? and i am familiar with the settings within binding controls, but i am so puzzled right now where to start, rather than going into unity and opining a wormhole to modify, binding seems smarter, any help would be so much xxx
Don't worry, you're not the only one. It also doesn't work for me even after following each instructions word for word. I suppose this tutorial is now outdated and there's another way to do it, tho I have no idea what it could possibly be...
Edit: I was able to make it work! What I needed to do was to make sure that I was using a Gesture animator provided in VRChat’s SDK. I was trying to use a copy of one of my existing animators for it, but that would’ve never worked because it wasn’t made specifically for gestures. You can try that and see if it works now.
@@philou13938 I'll try that when I have the time, thank you! Thinking about it that's probably my problem I was using a premade avatar that I imported from blender, thanks.

Clear, straight to the point and easy to follow even if not well versed on gesture layers. Amazing work as always!

same here...
Great totorial. Added properly lookin fingers grip in my avatar in 15 mins ^^
To those that are struggling like I was to get this to work, I found that, contrary to my first instinct, I needed to leave Write Defaults on.
Where is write defaults?
Always the best clear tutorials! 😄
How would i do the same gesture for multiple items such as guns with fist as the shooting

Actually just what I needed the other day. Thanks!
Is there a way to make it so your entire arm is being used like the grab animation in-game?
I dont need em right not but still watched it cuz somehow I am enjoying it.
Hey friend, could you pls help me how I can make my avatar with a hand animation for props ? (For it move it fingers while I hold the prop).
Is there a way to make box with several pickable props that you can load in this box ?

how do i do this if the arms also move? for example, if the avatar is holding a guitar
Could we get an updated tutorial for this?

Can prop toggles share the same VRC Hands Left avatar mask? I have an umbrella that I use for fly on my left hand and a mug toggle for left hand.
I followed the instructions once and it worked fine. I tried it again and now the right hand doesn't do any gestures. Any idea why this is happening?
Does this act as a new fx layer? Or is this just for the prop toggle?
Im not sure what I was doing wrong but I couldnt get it to work. I put the animation in the FX controller instead of the Gesture controller just to see what happens and now it works perfectly... odd...
How would you go about doing this if your items are turned on using a radial menu and blend tree?
OK I don’t know why, but when I look for the gesture control to make one, I cannot find it. I’m using the latest Sdk now.
Do you know were to find it in packages, some reason it's not in the original place
love this dude's stuff
when i transfer the animator controller over to my assets folder it overrides the other controller for basic toggles, how do i fix this

Why always duplicate avatar?
to make sure you don't accidentally override your actual avatar animations and toggles

hey, i have a lil question, why when i use hands layer the animation still going when i already quit it? do u think it have a solution?
The hand animation keeps looping, any fixes?
make sure you only have one frame in your animation, along with "loop pose" off. Otherwise, redo your animation

It seems you used a Bool toggle for the prop in this video, would it also work with an Int Toggle'd prop?
yes

he was hold a pen and used scroll wheel down to pull it behind the avatar, so it looks like you're holding nothing, until you toggle your prop
