This info is unbelievable. I've gone from "oh man cant stop rounding" to straight tense pull through to now this method. I'm shocked that after 7 years I finally felt the whip. Its almost addicting. One big thing is to be patient. Let the whip happen. With all the tension I had I did not feel a thing and had a sore elbow. Open the wrist at max pull back then close it as it comes into the chest, then open the wrist again. Be loose. I feel better distance control now and no flare ups and unintentional dumping hyzers. I'm seeing this in the pro's when I slow down the videos. No elbow or back pain now! This guy somehow communicated this info to me and others and the preverbial light was illuminated!!
I pinned this comment because the most important thing is to be patient and let the whip happen. I need to put some focus on explaining how slow and patient you have to be to get this down. It has to develop naturally.. Thanks for bringing these points up Mark!!! I’ll try to include them in an upcoming video. I’m so focused on the body movements I forget to include important things like that.
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 well I just went out and shot no worse than I normally shot. Can't believe it. Im impressed.. I'm trying to incorporate the left hand coming in at the time the front hand is going back. It's like you are bringing your shoulders together then opening them. My stiff as a board forearm has me maxxed out at 315ft with Katona 158g. The loose arm is the only way to get acceleration. Just like you said,, can't do the stiff 90* plane or its just dead constant arm speed. Sorry so long.
Love this comment. I played my first round a little over a year ago... Barely played again until january. Ever since I have been out there every weekened and every weeknight that I can arrange. 2 weeks ago I was hyzer dumping everything. Now I am in that tense 90 degree angle form and getting birdies all over the place (also shanking hard and getting double bogeys a lot too). Gonna try to start loosening up and try to feel the whip. Maxing out at 300 right now. Hope to add another 100 soon.
I make a lot of mistakes, and my form journey is far from over. The pros rarely make mistakes. I gained 200 feet in one year, and I'm going to keep telling you what I'm doing as I improve. This is my personal style, and it may not be for everyone. I finally came up with a drill, editing it now. Thanks for watching.
Just a quick tip for your form breakdowns and stuff, when you pause a youtube video, you can tap the , and . keys (< and >) to move the video back and forward frame by frame.
A month or so ago I followed some of your tips and started to feel that numbness in my fingers while I was throwing. It was wild. Since then, I stopped focusing on trying the things you said and I’ve lost progress…I need to start over and watch these videos again. Excited to see the drill video. Hopefully it’ll make so I won’t have to rewatch everything
@@758richy adding on to what this guy said, sometimes I will put a timestamp in the comments like this 1:00 at a few points I like and then just leave it in .25 speed and keep clicking the time in the comments instead of trying to rew or ff. But the , and . work real good too!
My own background: 11 yrs physiotherapist, Disc Golf since 2015, teaching DG since 2017, whole life of sports competetively (Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Squash, Track,…). So i knew of double movements for switching directions etc, but i was stuck inside my learn TH-cam-Box. For over a year i follow your channel and your philosophy of the true Slingshot - it all was inside my mind and you gave my own thoughts a voice! Now i teach all this to my fellow germans referencing to you. Absolutely amazing but at the same time just science of athletic movement! Great job, my discgolf soulmate! Love all your content! I‘m 39 yrs old and my distance reached 450-500 consistently - and i‘m also far from perfect form but i‘m hustling this winter again! Thanks mate 👌🏼🤙🏼
I get excited when your videos come out. I use to be maxing out at 280, but over the past few months watching and implementing these videos I've blasted past that and I'm getting 350.
I feel like this is one of the most crucial DG videos for anyone wanting to learn how to snap the disc. Not once did I hear “pull the disc through”. That is single handedly the worst piece of throwing advice, in my opinion. “Being like water” on the other hand is the exact analogy that illustrates what to do with your arm in order to get in and out of the power pocket and snap the disc out of your hand. Thanks for all of your videos man, you’re helping us out a ton.
The "pull the disc on a straight line" thing really messed me up for a long time. My muscle memory still goes back to it sometimes and I wonder why I am having to put so much effort into getting a disc to just barely go 300ft... Then I realise I am "pulling through" again and have to loosen up and readjust myself. Annoying in practice, even worse during a competitive game!
I am so glad you decided to create this TH-cam channel. The way you break this stuff down is amazing. So many teachers have trouble articulating the exact things you are explaining. Please keep it up even if you feel you are repeating yourself over and over (hopefully you don't feel that way, though). Every time you explain something in a slightly different way, a little more "clicks" in my mind. Thank you!
I’ve felt that way for a while lol. Hopefully I can keep explaining things in a way that makes some sense. There’s still little details that I’m working hard to figure out and get down. It’s an interesting sports move to say the least. Thank you so much for the support Rick.
It's so crazy how it all starts to make sense when you get your body and in my case my left shoulder going thru (b4 the disc) and actually rotating the body/shoulders. I will watch tuturial videos and slo mo pro drives, then throw in the feild to try some things and rec myself, then watch my videos back, then rewatch videos like this for the 2nd or 3rd time around. Then I will hear things that I either missed or didn't get the first time watching! I'm like yeahhhhh that's it! I think you do a real good job of explaining and showing the way to lag the disc and use the force of the body rotation! I've been doing that weird little push on my right elbow with the left hand/arm and it really helps me feel what position I need to be in! I think I'm going to put some videos together and explain the things that I changed and what helped me the most. Then another video or 2 with my journey to 400' and hopefully to 500' one day soon lol! My form has morphed and upgraded quite a few times now over the past few years. It kinda got in my head at AM Worlds recently tho, just weird throwing shots that aren't full power sometimes now, just cause my mind and/or body is still trying to catch up and adjust to the changes. But I know it's 100% for the best in the long run!
Out of all the guys on TH-cam. You are the one guy that can actually breakdown how to throw proper disc. Love your vids man. I live in Buffalo N.Y. and can't wait till good weather to put your vids to work. Thanks man!!!
You’re fired up…we’re fired up Coach. Thanks for putting the time in to make these vids. It’s pretty clear that your methodology is impacting some die hard disc golf dudes.
I've watched every video on the internet when it comes to form, and this is hands down the best one I've come across, I can't wait to get out this weekend and start working on it!! Thank you!!!!
I only started playing this summer and thank god I've found your channel this early. This is just what the beginners really need, before they make some hard-to-correct habits. I thank you and I'll keep my eyes open for what you're gonna do in the future. You have my full attention 👍
Amazing! I appreciate you. I’m scrambling to get it all together right now. The goal is to be fully running by mid October. Lessons/form reviews/patreon/q and a etc. I don’t have any consistency yet because I never planned to make more than ten videos. Just know that more is coming. Glad to have you as a supporter!
For several years the best disc golf advice was always "go do beto drills"...i think you are gonna be the suggested advice video for the next decade just like Beto was for the previous decade. Thanks for all your videos and work! You are making a difference for a lot of ppl
That’s an overwhelming compliment. I’m very critical of myself so I mainly see my teaching flaws, but your kind words have made my day. Thank you for the support and I’ll keep trying my best for everybody.
I've been playing for over 12 years now and only throw 350 and 375 on a perfect day (rarely happens lol). I have watched several friends pass me up in the distance dept. and I cant seem to get on that train. This video speaks to the many questions I've had for years! I have always thought that one day I would be able to break the 400' mark with ease and this may be the ticket. I look forward some more training videos.
YES!!! I was just out doing field work and I was doing everything with the arm movement and the hip turn and everything but my timing was off. This video is seriously a game changer for me man thanks for the content and keep up the good work.
This video is gold. I'm getting a feel for it. The being like water analogy is great and im not longer feeling it in my shoulder but instead the left side of my back.
I’m 4 months into disc golf and I’ve been watching every form video out there. Your way of explaining it is definitely the most unique I’ve come across in terms of what you place emphasis on. 400 is my current relatively consistent distance cap, something I notice a lot is when I relax and just go for it I throw a lot farther than when I try to go through a checklist in my head and try to force timing. Gonna try to implement your way of thinking and see what I can do with it. Keep the videos coming!
I'm so excited for drills. I am doing my best to watch these videos, hit the field, and try and put it into work. I'm not sure how much progress I am making but doing my absolute best to at least be conscious about it.
you explained it brilliantly. I've heard a handful of people try to explain this topic with little success.. I throw around 450 and I know there is a level of fluidity that I'm missing in my throw. I feel like I fire everything all together after my plant foot hits with little to no left arm engagement.. Can't wait to practice again. Hard to break habits after years of throwing Kyle Klein has the form I got my eye on for emulating. beautiful whip
Thank you 'Sling Shot' guy... this video just hit that 'make or break' moment for me as it addressed developing issues that I was having... I was micro-managing every part of my game which in and of itself, was wearing me down emotionally plus. ,When you said this should not hurt, that hit a sore spot, no pun intended... My practice sessions had been leaving me with strained core muscles, calves, and achy arms and shoulders... which had always sparked the question if that should be the case or not, and the issue never seemed to be be addressed in any other channel. Thanks for this pivotal video... you just gained a fan.
That last part is so important. Ultimately you gotta teach yourself and internalize it. Coaching is a tool to speed up that process and introduce new concepts in order to get you to think about the movement in a different way. There's no way to control each muscle in order, you have to experiment with ideas.
All the terms you use really encapsulate the action . “ Sling shot sweet spot” instead of power pocket is great . Power pocket will have people like my self feel like they have to “power “ into the pocket rather than staying loose & and allow the lag to whip the arm around . Just the change of words turns your lessons to a new real way to the drive . It truly is a sling shot motion rather Than a static power move
Been watching you for a while and been practicing the whip. I went from 410' to consistent 460' when I go for it (still working on accuracy). Farthest has been 469' on flat ground. I've been playing for about 9 months now, and hoping to crack 500' by December. FYI, I have an athletic background in tennis. I've played tennis for 27 years, and the backhand in DG reminds me a little bit of the single backhand in tennis.
These videos have been really great, I broke 459 feet today when two weeks ago i couldn't pass 420. My goal was to hit 500 this year but I think I let it happen next when I get more loose and muscle memory starts to kick in. Thanks for sharing the information that you've found!
LETS GO COACH T. I also had a busy summer after 9 months in college of grinding on form. Currently have lost my peak over the past 3 months, but I am loving this content. Best form vids out there by far, and I’ll definitely use them to get back and exceed my peak. Keep it up baby!
Best explanation in a compact format i have seen so far ,you have got me on the right track since one and half month back (as you know....),BIG THANKS Trenton.
Hell yeah coach T. I've been hitting the field since I saw your first video. I'm still consistently in the 370-410 range don't think I'm really sling shotting it still, but will continue to experiment as you've said. Occasionally have been throwing shots here and there that feel different (loose extra wrist motion before the snap, effortlessly throwing my max distance instead of trying my hardest for it) but unable to consistently reproduce it and haven't gained consistent distance. Looking forward to more content from you though, I'm determined to break that 500' mark.
Thanks for the support Colin. It’s very overwhelming explaining this stuff because I want it for everybody so badly. I’m editing my first drill now and going to focus on creating experimental exercises etc. It sounds like you have a good work ethic. You will get there. Just keep copying those pros. Hopefully I can help along the way.
Coach T! Let’s goooooo. Been checking everyday for a new video. 2 months in beginner here and I’m glad I found someone whose not telling me to pull a lawn mower! Love it dude. Make a patreon and I will support you. Peace!
Thank you so much for these videos. Finally someone explains these things not just says "use your other hand to make rotation" Id love to learn more about leg drive!!
I'm pretty stuck at 330-350 right now. Upsets me because as an okay and longtime golfer I feel like I should be able to get the timing on the other side down. Something about moving left to right doesn't vibe with me like right to left does. But your determination to teach has got me very determined to learn and figure this out. Hopefully I come back to this comment in the future with news that I finally got to 400. Working every day until then. You're the man, Coach.
Great videos! Watched them several times over the past few days and worked through the motions. I focused on this on the course today and saw some significant gains in distance. Even my son said, “Daddy, I think that’s the farthest you’ve ever thrown.”
Going to park this here before I start working to implement what you've shown in the vid, have been playing a few months and nothing has gone past 200 feet. I've consumed a lot of tips and how to video's, but this is the one that makes me most hopeful that I can eventually feel snap and get rid of this really sore arm.... Saved, liked, sub'd - can't wait to come back with progress. Grateful to you for the time you've invested...
OH, as you can tell from my name - I've had a Bruce Lee, just be water, philosophy for about 2 decades now - so when you related to that I knew there was something special going on here and to keep watching
I think u are def right with just about everything, experiment and video tape yourself, then compare to pros slow mo videos. You can literally start to see where they are getting power. I like the double move reference you talked about one time, you can see it in a good throw the disc gets that snap at peak reach back then again when released.
When I watch these videos, I acknowledge they are well reasoned and accurate for those wanting to throw this way, me included. I’m having the hardest time getting this though. My whip seems to become a half circle arm swing.
This is extremely useful stuff explained in a very pedagogical way. The mechanisms of the body movement seem intuitively very accurate. Too bad it’s 20 below zero right now where I live .
This video was presented by TH-cam as a recommendation. Wow, absolutely where I’m at right now, learning to lead with the hips and slinging the arm. So glad that you made this. Explanation is brilliant!!! A big THANK you 👍👍👍👍
Coach T, I am also fired up. I’m ready for the drills. this content is great and I’ve really enjoyed your progression up to this point and look forward to where its headed. I dig the foot planting, the left arm and body turning into that, then completing the natural sling shot with forearm+wrist, fast twitch.
Started hitting 415ft on my longest throws and 400ft on the reg - I was stuck at ~350-370 MAX until I cam across your videos. I cannot agree more with your theory on experimentation - Even when I'm completely new ideas now - with bogus form, I'm still outdriving my old max. There's something in our brains that retains the good stuff subliminally. It's been maybe 6 weeks since I last watched one of your videos - and I can't wait to get out there again and really focus on the noodle arm and the left arm.
I was gonna buy myself an Eagle McMahon hat to celebrate hitting 450ft when I get there. But now I'm thinking you need to make some sling shot swag that I can rock instead.
Yo T its T! I have a noodle arm drill! Get in a stand still throwing position and make your throwing arm a noodle. Use your upper body to turn your throwing arm and create lag. Allowing the elbow to break and whip. Start slow to feel it. When you do you it right, you know. Its effortless efficiency. Then increase the fast twitch muscles to increase speed and power. This is totally something you could dig into. On another note, I would love to see you do this same approach towards putting videos
I've been watching tutorials since I started in February and not once did backhands click with me. THIS makes complete sense 👏. I'm about to go hit the field and try this and finally learn the snap. I've been so tense and using all my strenth. I can throw 250 ft backhand and 350 forehand right now.
Have discovered from seabas vids that the sling shot effect comes from spring tension that lagges behind and unleashes. I have started to swing back really late and the same time moving my lower back/hips forward while turning back. It seems to be the almighty trick! That off arm push down and forward you talking about seems to help shift the weight faster and rotate hips 👍 Atleast for me it does.
Why isn't this video and knowledge all over the internets and socials .. this is info no one ever teaches or shows, you just gotta figure it out .. THANK YOU!!!!
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 .. There is so much information in your videos that the new player would have no clue about .. the left arm, the reachback when you flex your hand out, the 3 step process. People don't teach or talk about that. You're onto something here man..
Great video! I'm so excited to follow along and see what drills you come up with. I love your energy and determination. The fact that you genuinely want so badly for other players to also unlock the mystery of smooth, effortless technique is awesome and quite frankly beautiful to see. Keep it up! :)
Bring it Coach T! Excellent content! You're breakdown of the pros is a huge asset. Us followers should be known as Noodle Arms United. You're dealing a addictive drug. Distance is never enough.
I totally just vibes with you saying to get in tune with your body. I started playing DG in May 2021 after finishing PT from a shoulder dislocation and trying to replicate “The Pro’s” just made my should hurt(~200ft max) So I went to a big field and threw discs and focused on letting my body be natural and loose. Shoulder pain went away and now I’m at 425 semi-consistently. I feel like the biggest improvement you will get from “form work” or “form drills” is consistency with only a small distance improvements.
You need more subscribers viewers and people supporting you! Great work learning everyday to unlock our bodies to our full potential. Hope to see you out there!
Honestly, I’ve been watching videos for months trying to break the 250’ range. Literally my first round of implementing these techniques took me to 300-320’ consistently. Although I need to recalibrate my accuracy, this evolved my drive! Thank you so much!!!!
So happy to have helped. Accuracy takes a lot of practice. I feel accurate up to 440 ish feet. I have to put in many more hours of work to be consistent with full power drives. Thanks for watching.
Honestly, I know a lot of new disc golfers will be here for the distance, and this advice will get you there. Experimenting with this has gotten me from 320-340 consistent (with the rare accidental bomb) to around 370-390 consistent. My all time measured max went from 421 3 years ago, to 487 2 weeks ago (though literally just once, and never sniffed it since, lol) But let me tell ya, as a 30+ year old dude who has done damage to his throwing shoulder through a decade and a half of casual play trying to muscle the throw, I promise the best part of this will be keeping that throwing shoulder and other joints in good shape. New DGers, WARM UP EVERY TIME YOU THROW and keep it relaxed and smooth, and you wont be losing hours of sleep a night to shoulder pain like me.
Warming up is the best advice because your body is now doing the effort instead of the arm. The body needs to be warm because all sports moves can still cause injury (that’s just sports). I think I’ve messed up by not emphasizing this more. I’ll say something in my next video. As an out of shape 34 year old, it takes me 30 min at the field before I touch 500. I just can’t be that athletic anymore without being warm. I usually need to break a sweat before I can start throwing deep. Thanks for this comment Tyler.
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 thank you for the videos! Im pretty confident this form re-work for me is stopping, or at least significantly slowing the damage I was doing to myself! My arm was the OPPOSITE of relaxed before. I used to ruin my next day at work playing a round with 4 or 5 holes tempting me to throw hard off the tee, now Im able to put in a solid field session with pretty minimal consequences.
@@tektyman I was on the verge of quitting one year ago...no joke. Leading and muscling the arm not only hurts the shoulder but my lower body was also getting injured from the unnatural order of events. Helping people protect their shoulder means more to me then Distance gains. Great talking with you and keep me updated on your progress.
I've been playing for about 5 months now and I'm 15 and I've been really struggling with distance I'm maxing out at 416 at my best and I can't break into the upper esholons of 500-550 and this video really helped would love to see more like this
Coworker asked what the fuck I am doing when I randomly started to practise my frisbee tecnique at work after watching this video. Best frisbee teaching video I have ever seen.
Great stuff I mean great stuff !! I've added 80 to 100 feet to my drives just by going noodle arm and unfurling my wrist on the reach Bach. Now I have to work on my left arm turn. Anyways I was throwing 325 now I'm at 425 . I'm hesitant to share your video's with guys in my group now that I'm out driving all of them. Yikes,
Hey glad I found your page.. 13 years of playing here and just recently started to try and perfect my form. Your videos are right on line with a Facebook page called “spin and throw” i can pretty consistently hit 400+ but it takes a lot out of me. Couple questions. 1. Do you have a video on what your doing with your hand it looks like extend the wrist then curling is that correct? 2. If I’m understanding this correctly just before your reach back hits full extention your left side if rotating forward? I practiced this alot today and hit myself alot.. but my throat was whipping out more instead of a throwing feeling.
What i found that really helps with the slingshot, is also using your wrist aswell. So i start with having my wrist bent then extend it when i reach back, and then immediately bend it again. Its important when you start bending it again to keep it loose.
I see so few comments from women. I started playing when COVID started at age 51. My husband and I play at least 5 days a week. My guess is most of the people watching these are young men who can already throw 300-400 with bad form. With good form I can still only throw, at the most, 200. This, however is a game changer for me. Headed out with the hubby for a practice game today to start implementing your tips. I believe that ANYONE can play this game and do pretty well if they learn that it is actually easy to throw a few hundred with pretty much no impact on your body. This is how, and you are awesome to share your journey with us. If you're curious how and older woman is progressing as she works through your techniques I can keep you posted.
I am very interested in your progress and I love the enthusiasm. I will be setting up form analysis and individual lessons in early October. If your interested I would love to help you and your husband with your form journey. I have been trying to convince my wife to play for a long time but she doesn’t like sports very much 😢. Disc golf is amazing activity. I know I’ve benefited from disc golf both mentally and physically. It keeps me off my phone 😂. I appreciate the kind words Anne, and please keep me updated on your progress!
How much are you engaging your core? Really keeping it tight, loose, or at a certain time? Really liking the content, you point out some other pieces of the puzzle I havnt seen before, thank you.
With bowling it's similar because you want your swing to be loose but controled until the ball reaches the sliding leg then you put the juice on it. Thanks for the content, I am definitely learning
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 you wanna keep a straight to cupped I guess for some guys, then at the bottom of the swing you can open the wrist and elbow to get revs. Breaking the wrist backwards during the backswing that can help you throw a straighter ball. You'll "roll up the back" of the ball is one way to say it
Loving these videos man! one question I have is what speed of discs did you use when you were first implementing the sling shot techniques? Would you recommend starting off sling shotting putters first, or is it ok to go straight to the big boy destroyers haha
Yes. So far I am really pointing stuff out but I realize I need to come up with building blocks. I’ve already filmed my first drill and editing it now. I’m still working on my own form but I’m going to work with some locals and hopefully come up with some helpful drills.
Awesome break down video series you have! Are there any specific types of discs you're throwing (distance, fairway, etc) and are you throwing them at a certain angle (hyzer, flat, anhyzer)? -- specifically for the examples you're showing in this video
I’m 39 and just really getting into DG. I could throw about 250 ft. starting out, all arm. Your videos have helped me, in a summer of practice, to get to 350 and now a 250 is completely EFFORTLESS! Hoping to break the 400 ft mark one of these days. One question, how do you keep your right knee from hurting? I have some issues with that.
@@conradyoder6897 Definitely stop if pain persists. You can email me your form and I’ll look real fast to see where the weight is during the throw. I’ve come to realize that slingshotting is more of an athletic move which means that injuries are still possible (Just like any sports move). Please take it slow and definitely stop if it’s causing injury. Send me a video if you can. I’m still happy to hear about the gains though!!
When you are at the end of the lag and your in the pocket with your hips pointed forward do you still elbow your way to finish the throw or do you keep your arm a noodle and let the rotation of your body finish the throw
Excellent video! It’s been a frustrating journey for me trying to get my body to feel the correct way to throw. I have been playin for about 2 years now and have been very dedicated to working on my form by making it a point to get out on the course or in the field every single day. I video my form and noticed I lean foward into my reach back and have been working on keeping my body in an upright position and not turn my hips back so far, is that correct? I also have no control of my left arm during my throw and it looks like I’m trying to fly when I come into the throw. Is there any drills u can suggest to avoid my left arm slowing down my rotation? Should I start with slower discs with no run-up or just slow it down? Thank you for taking the time to make these videos for us, I appreciate you putting these principals together in such plain language as I feel some of the terms used to describe the movements involved in a disc golf throw are a bit convoluted for the average person getting into the sport.
I don't have a lot of distance yet, but what I'm thinking about now is how to do those 70 - 200 feet shots with acuracy, without hurting the arm. Cause it's easy to just use the arm on those shots, it feels easier to gauge the strength of the throw...
That's because you're used to judging it with the arm. The whole swing happens on the front leg. The lead leg action, which is what really powers the throw, is a heel stomp that turns into a push as you keep pressing into the ground. It's one movement that goes two directions so to speak. When you're judging the power you need on a throw, put all your weight on your rear leg and then push the lead foot down and keep applying pressure until it turns into a pushing motion. You do this Back and forth, thinking to yourself, this feels about right. Then you push off the lead foot towards the rear foot, which puts the weight there, then, without forcing the weight onto the lead leg, simply apply the foot to the ground and press into it until it, once again, becomes a pressing motion, or pushing out motion and everything else, given you are loose enough, does the rest on it's own. It's like a gas pedal, in that the motion is similar, but also because the lead leg is like a gas pedal. You push it down and all the other parts just move automatically without your control.

Open the wrist at max pull back then close it as it comes into the chest, then open the wrist again. Be loose. I feel better distance control now and no flare ups and unintentional dumping hyzers. I'm seeing this in the pro's when I slow down the videos.
No elbow or back pain now!

@@758richy really. Awesome I’ll try that.
Haven’t tried it yet but it makes a lot of sense this could be game changing 😮 subbed.
That makes this whole thing worth it. Keep me updated on your progress. Thanks for watching
@@758richy yep, same here man. Prevents any lag in the disc and renders your bottom half useless
Great video I've learned a lot from this video
This video is great. I've always had decent distance on my forehand, but my backhand has always needed help. Excited to give this a shot.
I throw around 450 and I know
there is a level of fluidity that I'm missing in my throw. I feel like I fire everything all together after my plant foot hits with little to no left arm engagement..
Can't wait to practice again. Hard to break habits after years of throwing
Kyle Klein has the form I got my eye on for emulating. beautiful whip
Agreed
This video is really good! It takes a bit of a different angle than most other backhand form tutorials etc. Truly helpful stuff!
These videos have been really great, I broke 459 feet today when two weeks ago i couldn't pass 420. My goal was to hit 500 this year but I think I let it happen next when I get more loose and muscle memory starts to kick in. Thanks for sharing the information that you've found!
You are the best thing to happen to DG tutorials in the history of DG tutorials!!!!
Always great to hear from you Mikael!!
Great stuff! Thank you!
OH, as you can tell from my name - I've had a Bruce Lee, just be water, philosophy for about 2 decades now - so when you related to that I knew there was something special going on here and to keep watching
let's go coach t
I think u are def right with just about everything, experiment and video tape yourself, then compare to pros slow mo videos.
You can literally start to see where they are getting power.
I like the double move reference you talked about one time, you can see it in a good throw the disc gets that snap at peak reach back then again when released.
When I watch these videos, I acknowledge they are well reasoned and accurate for those wanting to throw this way, me included. I’m having the hardest time getting this though. My whip seems to become a half circle arm swing.
Same!!!
How are you such a genius. You make it sounds so freaking easy, but in a good way. Now only thing left is for me to practice this.
You helped me go from 270 to 370 in 2 months. Thank you!
You’re intensity is definitely contagious. I will be water one day. Fluid. Smash. Thanks Coach.
Thanks for the tips you explained things very well hit 420 feet throwing a maya still on journey to 500
It definitely helps thinking about my arm being super loose! I think of it literally being like a whip and relaxed to make the disc fling out.
Awesome videos dude, each and every one has helped me improve.
You should send me a video to my email of the drill. If I use it, I’ll attach your name to it in some way. At least credit you for coming up with it.
I've been watching tutorials since I started in February and not once did backhands click with me. THIS makes complete sense 👏. I'm about to go hit the field and try this and finally learn the snap. I've been so tense and using all my strenth. I can throw 250 ft backhand and 350 forehand right now.
I love your videos. I think it is great for a more advanced player that doesn’t want listen to someone drone on about fundamentals this is great stuff
I’m not very good at marketing lol
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 .. There is so much information in your videos that the new player would have no clue about .. the left arm, the reachback when you flex your hand out, the 3 step process. People don't teach or talk about that. You're onto something here man..
Great video! I'm so excited to follow along and see what drills you come up with. I love your energy and determination. The fact that you genuinely want so badly for other players to also unlock the mystery of smooth, effortless technique is awesome and quite frankly beautiful to see. Keep it up! :)
Tried this today, throwing my left side forward and it worked! It’s so much easier this way!
I am super happy it worked for you Stephen! I appreciate you watching my videos.
Love this video! Been struggling with this exact feeling. Knowing there can be more! Shoulder hurting is what cause this.
Bring it Coach T! Excellent content! You're breakdown of the pros is a huge asset. Us followers should be known as Noodle Arms United. You're dealing a addictive drug. Distance is never enough.
😂
Doing anything that creates less damage to your body will allow you to disc for life. 51 years for me. Smooth controlled is correct, Sir. Loved this.
Hey, love the videos. Would be really cool to see you work with someone throwing in the 300-350 range and pointing out things to improve.
I definitely plan to!
I’d love to see you chat with some pro distance throwers and see what they think of this stuff.
@@bbd1254 I certainly have questions for them lol
I agree, you should have a volunteer on the channel and see if you can help them add some distance
Dude you’ve helped me so much, especially the noodle arm! thanks dude!
Great Video, just found you. Very good job of putting coaching words to it different ways to try to explain. Much appreciated.
As someone who maxes at 200-220, thank you very much for these detailed breakdowns. I just found you today, and I'm gonna try to find the snap
how'd you improve? very curious. i've been casually playing for 10 yrs and have been stuck in that same range, albeit our local courses are small
So much looking forward to your coming videos. Always great content and easy to absorb. Stay healthy and have fun along the way!
Yeahhh!!! breaking that 100m barrier was SUCH a big deal for me. Congrats! I know how dope it is!
Honestly, I know a lot of new disc golfers will be here for the distance, and this advice will get you there. Experimenting with this has gotten me from 320-340 consistent (with the rare accidental bomb) to around 370-390 consistent. My all time measured max went from 421 3 years ago, to 487 2 weeks ago (though literally just once, and never sniffed it since, lol)
But let me tell ya, as a 30+ year old dude who has done damage to his throwing shoulder through a decade and a half of casual play trying to muscle the throw, I promise the best part of this will be keeping that throwing shoulder and other joints in good shape.
I've been playing for about 5 months now and I'm 15 and I've been really struggling with distance I'm maxing out at 416 at my best and I can't break into the upper esholons of 500-550 and this video really helped would love to see more like this
Coach T. Thank you again. Awesome intro shot and music for the channel. Keep it going. Love your content.
Yikes,
I am a competitive as well so it’s ok if you don’t share...I understand 😂
Great video, thanks. I like the water imagery.
Love the content I’ve been working on my backhand and I’m really struggling so I’m hoping that this can help me moving forward
Throw not throat lmao.
What i found that really helps with the slingshot, is also using your wrist aswell. So i start with having my wrist bent then extend it when i reach back, and then immediately bend it again. Its important when you start bending it again to keep it loose.
Great video. I just wish I knew how to throw my left arm down and still have it flow with my rhythm....been trying for months
Still excited when you post a new video, you have a great teaching style and insight, looking forward to your next post, keep grinding.
Aced a 215 turnover putter shot last week doing exactly what he did at the beginning. One step, snap and watch it go in. :D
How much are you engaging your core? Really keeping it tight, loose, or at a certain time? Really liking the content, you point out some other pieces of the puzzle I havnt seen before, thank you.
I engage it a lot. It activates during the spin along with every other quick twitch muscle.
With bowling it's similar because you want your swing to be loose but controled until the ball reaches the sliding leg then you put the juice on it. Thanks for the content, I am definitely learning
Interesting hearing about bowling. My wrist hurts sooo bad last time I bowled. Probably didn’t stay loose lol
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 you wanna keep a straight to cupped I guess for some guys, then at the bottom of the swing you can open the wrist and elbow to get revs. Breaking the wrist backwards during the backswing that can help you throw a straighter ball. You'll "roll up the back" of the ball is one way to say it
I LIVE for the POWER POCKET ! I fucking love this video. Its incredibly incredible .
I don't know if I have mentioned this but I've been playing for 13 months, and hit my personal best 436ft. at the age of 41 with this method
Loving these videos man! one question I have is what speed of discs did you use when you were first implementing the sling shot techniques? Would you recommend starting off sling shotting putters first, or is it ok to go straight to the big boy destroyers haha
I did it with mid ranges at first. I need to start my next video with this info. I forget to include little details such as starting with mids.
One of the things I tell friends who are trying to figure this out is to dangle the disc. It really helps get the arm loose.
There we go, time to get back on the grind
I can’t wait for the drills cause I really want to know what to do to fix my backhand
Yes. So far I am really pointing stuff out but I realize I need to come up with building blocks. I’ve already filmed my first drill and editing it now. I’m still working on my own form but I’m going to work with some locals and hopefully come up with some helpful drills.
Quality videooo! I wanna see these drills
Thank you. Love the vids! Keep up the great work!
That’s great to hear Conrad! Which knee is hurting
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 outside right knee from planting and twisting.
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 thanks man! What is your email?
Very helpful instruction-Thank you!
6:40 this is what i consider the PULL the use of the fast twitch muscles at end of shot
Appreciate you bro!! Keep on keeping on!! 💯
Awesome. Thank you for sharing. Please keep it up.😁
I don't have a lot of distance yet, but what I'm thinking about now is how to do those 70 - 200 feet shots with acuracy, without hurting the arm.
Excellent, as always.
