    This is my style and these are just my opinions. I appreciate all of my subscribers!!! Also, I only show my good shots because I want to provide the best examples I can. I obviously hit a lot of trees while filming. The beauty of video editing! Also, OT Disc Golf has great videos on Grip and Nose angle. I haven’t had a chance to make videos on those topics and grip is a weakness for me that I’m going to explore further. I have small hands and struggle with grip. I’ll be working on it for now.

      What grip are you currently using? I try the power grip for my drivers, but just can't get it to feel right for mid or short range shots so I use more of a fan grip.

      #slingshotdiscgolf you could experiment with a 3 finger powergrip. I also have smaller hands and tucking my little finger in as a pose to hooking it on the rim is a lot more comfortable. Brodie has a video with Drew Gibson teaching him to throw further where Drew uses this grip.

    Found this video a few weeks ago. Implemented the "out-in-out" technique with Uli's grip-tips for my nose angle. I've shot 2 PRs and my first bogey-free round the two times I've played since. It's so much easier to hit my lines. Thank you for your videos!

    I've watched hundreds (maybe more?) of disc golf form/theory vids in the past 6 years, from all the top pro's and other's, and yours are easily the best descriptions of HOW to build a proper BH form. Thank you for taking the time, and expending the energy, to create such great descriptors of this elusive thing we all seek . . which is a great form, and all of it's intricacies, that ideally lead to much greater distance and accuracy. Bravo!

    I’ve played for 7-8 years now. Making strides here and there. Developing all aspects of my game to a decent level overall, except distance. I’ve watched a trillion and one videos, and practiced and drilled and all that. Your videos were the first ones that really made a difference. I tell everyone now, and still watch to remind me. Still working of course, but have added 100 feet in a month and not even complete form 100% of the time. 6 out 10 shots are snapped. Floppy arm is hard. Reach back timing still weird sometimes. Forming it to my style but more progress on distance the past month than the previous 2 years. Thanks sir.

      I think a reason why it hasn't blown up is that you actually need to do the work still.
      His explanations are so great I feel like it will be a piece of cake to learn it. But it's not :p

    Excellent points all. Almost no one knows how to teach this. Two more points that work for me. Wind up the torso relative to the hips at the reach back, then snap that through between the hip release and the noodle release. Second, start the turn with your left knee driving the hips as you show in another video. The torso release is what gives me spin, then the left foot spins on my heel just after release and I get a full rotation after release. With this torso focus, I don't have to think about spinning my foot. It comes as a byproduct.

    I've been working on distance, stuck around 300', but implementing your out-in-out method, I was throwing 50' farther the first try, when I would get it right. I still have to work my body into it better, but this was a huge improvement in my distance. You really break it down nicely. Thanks for the lesson!

    This is a great explanation and makes a lot of sense. I have found myself sometimes needing to revert back to "arm pulls" on wooded courses because its so accurate, but i don't want to continue building bad muscle memory. A lot of times i "sling it" ill either whip my hand too early and it comes out way to the left or i feel like i had great timing but it launches off diagonally to the right. This video helped me realize why that probably is happening. My best slings were always when i thought my reachback was too...lateral?... In my peripheral vision. But in reality that's why they were such good throws. Gonna have to remember this

    This is the best tip that I’ve learned from a video. The out to in to out shape was incredibly helpful. Shortly after I watched a practice round of Paul’s. He somewhat does this also.

    This is one of the best form videos on the web right now. Super good, coach. You explained how the feeling of reaching out rather than reaching back is of importance that relates to the release. A lot of players know the disc needs to be in close to the chest when getting into the pocket, but they assume on the reachback they need it to be in line with where the disc will be at their chest, when in reality it needs to be in line with where the disc will be upon release. This creates that V shape you would see from an aerial view, but also keeps the disc in a straight line from reachback to release when looking from the back. And it just so happens that the easiest way to get into those and then release from those positions is to use the fast twitch muscles in the elbow and wrist. Couple that with the power created from the lower body and we see how it starts to come together. Very good video man this is gunna help so many people.

    I played in a Goldenball basketball league in Portland back “in the day”, and I have had the opportunity to play coach T “one on one “. I believe his athleticism from basketball translates into his disc golf. His quick hand speed and “cross-overs” left me on the floor, literally.

    I have heard a lot of people talk about "throwing out from the chest" but for some reason your "V shape" explanation and demo really clicked for me, thanks!

      This. 100% this. I don’t know why any other explanations never clicked for me, but the “v shape” and “whip out-in-out” definitely made an immediate impact on my form. I finally understand that I have been doing Overthrow’s box drill completely wrong. This is just another way of phrasing it, which happened to work for me.
      Keep up the great work. This channel and Overthrow, without question, have had the most impact on my form and distance. And I must have already watched dozens of hours of content on the subject, none of which worked for me.

    In regards to the keeping the head looking down, its so crazy how i was just applying this in my DG form yesterday because of an old Golfing tip i got about rotating around your spine. Keeping your head fixated on the ball and then trading shoulder positions around your spine (fixed center of gravity). Then letting your trail shoulder bring your head forward to the target. Drew Gibson says this very thing in a video with brodie smith. Drew gibson also has good golf form. coincidence? I dont think so lol A lot of tips from the golf, baseball, tennis and even the hockey swing can very much be applied to the DG Swing. Since the mechanics basically the same. Great work man you are one of the few on YT who are truly starting to understand the mechanics of the DG swing and i can promise you… you are creating better disc golfers out there who watch your vids.

      The disc golf throw is so similar to golf and baseball swings its crazy. For some reason I never thought of it like other sports but when I started to watch these videos it made me realize how similar it is.

    I am stuck at 350 and am trying to get to 425 in two weeks in time for a tournament. This seems like it may do the trick.     You may think and feel like you’re reaching out but in slow motion you are actually pulling from straight back like pros teach. I have noticed though when I added the whip I get an easy 30-50ft with less effort. More spin makes the disc stay in the air longer. Thanks for the info.

    Just wanted to say thank you for all your help. I went from being around 400 feet on a good thrown to now hitting upper 400. 478 being my record so far.
    Not too bad for a 32 years old. PS: I walk my x step - kind of like tristian tanner.

    I feel like the best two combos on the planet for disc golf instruction are Overthrow and Sling Shot. Start with Overthrow to understand the game from the essential skill sets required in backhand and forehand perspectives....and then into Sling Shot for the mental, body position feel and details to help you go to the next level.

    I feel like this is the video that I’ve needed for two years to get me the distance I’ve been looking for, I have a hard time getting snap, I use my upper body and lower body pretty well I think, I hit the power pocket, but I just don’t really get that nice snap and acceleration at the end, my distance right now I believe is from power and not being loose, I’ve worked very hard with learning everything expect the proper way to get the snap and have somehow managed to get on my best throws 400 ft, iso I’m very excited to really practice this and see where I can get.

      @@slingshotdiscgolf1897 my max is 325’. I know I’m throwing with my arm and shoulder muscle power and not using my arm like a whip BUT I can’t figure out how to do it? It’s really frustrating for me.
      Was there anything you did (the “ah ha” moment) that enabled you to switch from using arm muscles to using your arm like a whip.
      I feel like there is something I have not tried that when I do it will completely change my form and a light bulb will go off and I’ll know for sure that yup that was using my arm like a whip.

    Throwing average 440 ft with fair accuracy in an open hole, but only 300 max in tight wooded holes with fair accuracy. That out in out motion I’ve been doing but you take it to another level. Going to try to exaggerate it more by using more of the left hand and hip torque. My absolute max is 470, all thanks to your first videos by the way. I’m going to try this and hopefully hit 500 by end of the year.

    This video I noticed your wrist extension before rotation, I tried it and gained 50+ ft up hill. You've mentioned it before but it may be worth going into more detail about it specifically! I believe this is what I was missing in my search for more spin!

    This is my first year trying to get more serious about disc golf, actually went and bought a bag and got more discs than just the 3 pack starter set that I've always played with. I'm a "strong" guy but I could not throw the disc far at all. I mean we're talking like 150-180 feet. I would always end up with an up high flight with a hard fade left every time because I was tensing my arm up so much and trying to "muscle" the disc. I Came across this channel last week, and it makes so much more sense than any other videos I've seen! I've done only two sessions of field practice trying this slingshot method, and I'm ALREADY getting close to throwing 400 feet in windy conditions! The improvements to distance and flight path of my throws so quickly is insane! That's even with my form and timing still not being great! I went and played my first round today after discovering this channel and shot my best round ever with the most birdies I've ever had and almost even had my first ace! This slingshot method is THE TRUTH Coach T!

    Could you possibly look into and do a video on the specifics of the grip? How high on the disc to grab it, best finger placements to generate max spin/torque, ect.. There are absolutely ZERO videos on TH-cam that really cover it other than the different styles (power, stack, fan, ect). Dave Feldberg has an Infinite Discs video out that attempts to explain what each finger theoretically should do which was great, but other than that video, nothing. I've been experimenting with different ways to grip the disc (drivers/wide rims mainly) and I can't find that one that generates the most spin and snap for myself, or atleast one that stands out as definitely better personally. Any help would be appreciated. Love your vids man

      Grip is subjective. As long as you’re following basic principles such as creating a pivot point, keeping your thumb over the the rim, and holding the disc nose down, it is all about what feels best and most consistent for you. Everyone has different hands. Paul McBeth power grips every shot. Some pros only throw fan grips.
      I’m a huge Feldberg fan but I agree that video was a bit possibly overly detailed.

    You're the first person I've heard reference flexibility and stretching the core. The dudes who throw 500+ can be tall, short, skinny, chubby; but they all can twist themselves into a pretzel. If you ever get a chance to see a top pro stretch it's like watching a pro golfer or MLB player... Power comes from the core. Some people are more naturally flexible, but it absolutely can be improved. Yoga and elastic bands are your friend!

      I’ve committed to doing yoga and resistance training during the winter for that exact reason. Aside from the fact I need my old ass to be flexible anyways. Disc golf is a great excuse to stay fit.!!

    How crazy is this? I stated throwing without a run up about a month ago. I've been doing most things in this video and i've seen a huge improvement in accuracy. Distance has slightly improved. I'll alter what i'm doing to incorporate what you're doing. I will say, I had a hip replacement so that rotation after release is nearly impossible for me. Thanks for you videos.

    Welp; it's too late for my GStar Valkyrie and GStar Wraith, but I love your motion. As a discus thrower, when I took up disc golf a few years back, I tried to come up with a standstill setup/release that I could use until I learned the x-step that was based on discus balance. It was this same basic setup, but lacking the snap because I didn't know how to use my wrist yet.

    6:45 interesting. I never noticed that the trailing arm, if not tucked in, prevents the body from turning. I just thought you could turn faster if it was tucked in. Man, so many things to think about.

    Recently watched a vid about the off arm today, comparing American vs Swedish style. Watch Gurthie and Jenkins throw even Lizotte kinda does it. their off arm swings down and kinda behind their body instead of comming in infront and forward making the left shoulder a lever stoppning the whip motion so in power pocket chest/shoulders is still perpendicular to target, then holding on to the disc longer, then the whip motion stops and disc rips out harder. This works better for me atleast with aiming then doing the dubbelmove infront aiming right. Any thoughts?

      Go with it. I say in my other videos that the left arm will do its own thing. The important thing is getting the whole body into the shot. The left arm helps you spin faster. At least that’s what it does for me but every pro does it differently. I’m not even close to as good as the pros so I would still copy them and do what works.

    Hey bro liking your methodology. I was curious how far you are throwing with a stationary/1-step? I can't get the noodle or the snap (yet) and I'm throwing like 270 stationary and 300' with a walk up.
    Is it realistic to think i can throw 340 with a 1-step if I develop that noodle arm out-in-out with the off arm movement and weight shift?
    I've just started doing an x step and it's giving me minimal returns because it's just adding ten extra points of failure in my throw
    P.S. I'm 6'8" so I think that factors into my current distances.

    getting blisters on my hand from throwing too much getting about 300ft average. The blister is on my pointer finger about an inch down from the fingernail. I'm concerned that I am holding the disc incorrectly. Most of my pressure is in my pointer and not my middle finger and thumb. However with different discs and grips (fan grip and power grip) my pressure on the discs change. My question being what fingers should I apply pressure on the disc so it goes smoothly with the same snap?

      @@smileyboy2700 I started to learn how to use flippy discs for less power = distance, and kept trying to use my hips and lagging and pulling with my left arm to use the rubber band, and it clicked.

    Curious what your thoughts are on this tip I heard (I think it was from Paul McBeth, but I'm not totally sure) - he, or whoever, suggested imagining there is a stake running through your disc into the ground, so you can't pull it. I think the thought process is instead of reaching back/out, you hold the disc in place (with your shoulder I would assume, since you want to keep your arm as relaxed as possible) and x-step to the point where your arm is fully extended back/out.
    Not sure if I explained this well, lol, but I've tried it out and I find it works pretty well. Obviously this wouldn't be for when you're doing a standstill shot, but I guess once you've mastered standstill slingshotting maybe this could be worth trying out when you want to make that next step to slingshotting while performing an x-step?

      I tried that method for a month and my body doesn’t work that way. I suggest trying it and if you get the results you want then your body was meant to do it that way. I do an active reach out and that’s what works for me. That’s why I always emphasis that it’s my style.

      @@slingshotdiscgolf1897 gotcha ye I might keep exploring it. Would you recommend when reaching out not locking your elbow when you're arm is fully extended? I think I find that happens a lot for me and it makes it more difficult for my elbow to break. Maybe I'm still using some of my arm muscles when reaching out?

      @@andrewsullivan5850 I fully extend the arm but not every pro does so I’d do what’s comfortable but I never have issues with my arm getting stuck or anything like that. But I’ve had a year to get comfortable with the loose arm and it takes time to get down.

    Love this video! Just one question. Is this course you're on in Bandon, Oregon by chance? I just went through there on a road trip, and it looks pretty damn similar to the course i played there. Fun course, but super confusing if you've never played it before.

    Go slow to hit point then boom sauce. When you are slow to the hit zone, you are more apt to brace against the front foot and not ride around it avoiding the brace all together.
    I saw myself on videon and it was eye opening. I never paused and braced at the hit zone. Oh it felt wonderful and smooth riding around the front foot, however there was no brace. Every disc went the same 230 or 240 ft and I couldn't figure out why I could get further. I finally really slowed down the pull through until the hit, and the disc flys out cleaner and true to the disc numbers.
    Slow down the pull through. Don't yank from the start, just slowly accelerate to the hit and rip it. I don't really think about my steps anymore. Quit freeing and the accuracy is there.
    I started out with 100 ft putters stand still and moved to 200ft stand still, then mid ranges. Shocking how you will feel the hit and it feels good.

    Hey I have something I would like explained that I can't find anywhere on youtube. I want to know why the pros get 500ft distance in the air and then when their disc hits the ground they get a forward skip. When I throw my 450ft+ shots they die out with no chance for a skip.

      A 500 foot throw the disc has a lot of spin and speed out of the hand that it just skips hard and far if you have a good nose angle. Nose up throws will have less skip.

    How do you get the disc in front of the left arm to make that hitbox the pros have? I feel the swing/timing/momentum speed up but I always seem to be pulling the disc behind my left arm which causes rounding. I can get rocs to 350, leopard 3s to 400, and wraiths and such to 430ish but I believe this disc lagging behind the hitbox is what is keeping me from hitting 450+. Am I just too slow on bending the elbow or perhaps my body is just in the way of the line I want to throw the disc on, so i have to throw around my body?       After watching your form my only answer is the double move. I have a few videos on my channel about it and i have a video on the left arm. Another left arm video is coming at some point. That’s my answer based on how I do it but there’s a lot of styles out there.

      @@slingshotdiscgolf1897 hey Coach. Awesome videos. Was just going to ask a similar question. To me there seems to be a difference between the right hand lagging behind vs. "dragging" behind. I can't entirely explain it but I would say that in your throws (and looking at pros like McBeth) even though there is a less than 90° angle between your arm and shoulder at the beginning of the pull, the arm quickly catches up and that angle comes back. This is opposed to what I'm calling "dragging" and that seems to be where the arm/shoulder angle collapses to be less than 90° but the angle doesn't return to 90° until release. That seems to be a power leak and causes rounding.
      Does that make sense? Would you say incorporating the left arm will solve this issue?

      Just to answer your questions quickly. I don’t know what a player rating is and I’ve only been playing a year and a half now. I havnt learned how to putt or forehand yet. Although I’m naturally ok at both and have shot a -9 under at my local course which is only a few off the record. Besides that I’m just a basketball player who loves the backhand move. I do it my own way and I’m just sharing my style. The feeling of snap blew me away and I quickly became addicted. I don’t want to go pro. I just want to be an individual instructor and help people from behind the scenes.

    With the left arm coming in, do you truly feel like it's swinging in laterally and adding torque, or is it more a centerpoint anchoring downward for better balance/spin? I've heard the "put your left hand into your right pocket" suggestion and I find the motion to be way too jarring...

    Just learned some days ago to be relaxed and i suceeded throwing 370ft with a FD. I have played for ish 3 months now but i don’t get if your wrist also should be relaxed or if it’s supposed to do something in the last part of the throw?

      Nobody is saying to open the hand to let it go. You grip it not too tight and not too loose so the disc eject from your hand on its own without you opening your hand.

    Every time I try to go for the whip, my nose feels too up. Any tips on getting the nose down while hitting the whip?
    Lately I've been experimenting with the supination of the wrist, which does increase my distance (without trying the whip) so maybe combining the two would result in a nose down whip?
    Note: I'm at around 375 - 400 max distance on flat ground

    Ur on to something with the changing vectors, in-out, while in the power pocket.
    I do something similar.
    If I made a video the motion would be a WAVE, the key point; allowing the wrist to load at the inner apex and unload at the tip of the whip.
    It's like the feel of the disc loading when throwing forehand. Something I didn't feel with backhands until now.
    This is currently not conventionaly recognized, as straight line pulling is sacrosanct. "It's what the pros do" they say.
    Also ur reference to quick twitch muscles is hard to incorporate for brutes who want force and acceleration to be linear. Big reach back, pull with power to release.
    However, ur "Noodle arm" techniques (passive v active wrist) solve the mixed forces, but it's all about timing. Blending the two in the pocket.
    Hope this helps validate ur methods. Watching the video had that affect on my ideas.
    Now to waken the sleepers.

      I’m not a pro so I will call it my style. The wrist involvement is based upon momentum and run up length. A drone shot above would look way different in a full power run up. the the standstill example I give demands more wrist engagement from me. Full power the wrist would break behind the disc much later but I believe it would still get to that position before release. If any of that makes sense lol.
