Queues are used for bandwidth management and prioritize traffic (QOS):
1. Limit data rate for certain IP addresses, subnets, protocols, ports, and other parameters
2. Limit peer-to-peer traffic
3. Prioritize some packet flows over others
4. Configure traffic bursts for faster web browsing
5. Apply different limits based on time
6. Share available traffic among users equally, or depending on the load of the channel
Queue implementation in MikroTik RouterOS is based on Hierarchical Token Bucket (HTB). HTB allows to create hierarchical queue structure and determine relations between queues.
You will need any one of these Mikrotik routerboard router for this tutorial:

max97527 Yes. But must remember about check in bridge setting checkbox" use ip firewall", because not workng option qos on ip and in/out bridge port in firewall.

Hello i really appreciate the help that your videos have gave me over the year on how to configure my mikrotik router, the configuration works for the regular rb750 but i bought a rb3011 UiAS-RM and I've been having problems with bandwidth control for individual clients, also port bonding and load balancing and I've been unsuccessful with following your other videos on that, id really appreciate if you have any advise or can provide me any with technical support on that, thank you.

Problem is WAN traffic is always higher 200-300Mb than LAN client traffic.
we are running ftth project right now. if you were know that how could i fixed to be the same traffic.

I'm reset it without the default configuration. Created a mikrotik as a switch (bridge and ports). When I create Queues there is no traffic on it. I can't find where I went wrong. If possible help (second opinion). Maybe I'm going around in circles and can't find a way out.
Really nice tutorial and I have been learning a lot from it ! One question regarding the simple queue. You created the 'All bandwidth' first and then another 2 queues ' client 1' and 'client 2' as child queue. why not directly create client 1and client 2 queue ? what is the difference between " all bandwidth + Client 1+ Client 2' and just two separate simple queue 'client 1', 'client 2' ?
To the best of my understanding and per his explanation, you can decide not to create all bandwidth and go ahead and create the other two as describe, the purpose of creating the all bandwidth is for the entire network. But should in case you discover a particular ip address over untilizing more of the bandwith that when you can isolate that particular ip address but it has to be linked with the all bandwidth if created by using the parent. Hope i answered you well.

Simple queue not working if is unchecked in bridge setting checkbox "use ip firewall". Not working qos on IP address and in/out-bridge-port in firewall in MT.
How do I create queues for clients in different groups, for example 2 Mbps, 4 Mbps and 6 Mbps clients etc? If I use simple queue in a dhcp server, what happens when a client IP address changes? I would appreciate a reply.
Does priority in simple queue work if there is no parent queue? queue type is default-small. thanks

What target IP should i use if i want to create a parent queue for IP's on different class i.e 192.168.5.2 and another 192.168.6.2. Is it possible to have such a parent to cater for both IP's?

Currently I am using my asus wifi router' bandwidth limiter but it has limitations.
Can you set mikrotik router's bandwidth management for example there is currently 1 user(A). User A can utilize max DL and UL speed. When additional users connect(users B, C, D), can mikrotik automatically divide the bandwidth to these 4users? And vice versa.
How to give CIR/Dedicated/Gurnted bandwidth to user also having sahred client in that mikrotik.
Why only limited routers you mentioned work for this setup? I have RB1100AHx2 and RB1100AHx4 and CCR1036-12G-4S. Also going to buy CCR1009 series soon. Are these new routers doesnt support HTB ? I updated my RB1100AHx2 software and now I have Bucket size option in Queues but still this option is not working. Do we need to make some changes in Mangle also before this simple setup?

It could be fasttrack causing the issue th-cam.com/video/6LaqhDm6PHI/w-d-xo.html, remove it and reboot. For simple queues you don't necessary need to mangle rules.

Is there a way to create a simple queue that will give X amount of download and X of upload to anyone on the network even if i already have some simple queues made ?
for example if i have a new user on the network to automatically give that user 1 mb up and down and keep my other simple queues at 3mb ?
All you have to do is to create child queues for each user under the main queue and set the download & upload.

Hello, I thank you very much for that guide. I would like to ask you if will be possible set up it in other way. Everybody in network will have slowly (shrink internet speed) internet connection, but only selected clients (IP addresses = which I will set up it like permanent IP in DHCP server) will have unlimited internet speed?
E.g. root rule of Queue will be set like 192.168.5.0/24 with limit internet speed to e.g. 256kbps/2Mbps. But e.g. only surveillance server (192.168.5.254), under main root Queue rule, will have e.g. 2Mbps/10Mbps?

The parent (root) queue should be assigned the maximum upload/download of your internet connection. Then you can assign the child queues with a lower or equal bandwidth to that of the parent.
Eg. Parent 2Mpbs/10Mps
child1 256/2
child2 512/6
child3 2/10

mine doesn't limit. I can see the traffic but according to speedtest and interface there's much igher speed for example I'll do a speed test on pc and I get 80Mbps, but my queue is speed is 1less than 256kbps. Does that meean there traffic beeing unaccounted by Queues?

That's strange, connect to them via mac and see if that helps.
For me, this method does not work. Does the rest of the router configuration affect this? I started MT with the wizard and that's it. Then I added these rules from your video I entered correctly and nothing limits my test client on my network. What could be wrong?

This is the good way to manage the bandwidth, Specially when sharing a specific bandwidth among specific users. Like sharing 10 Mbps among 4 users having 4 Mbps package. 4 x 4 = 16 Mbps . I had tried this on the same ROS version 6.38.1, but when I select the Parent Queue my client Queue doesnt change and stays on the same place.... Any Idea ?
You should set a dw/up 10dw/1up limit for the parent queue and the child queue 4dw/1up for each. I don't know you upload speed so I just guesting by putting 1mbps.
TKSJa I have total 25Mbps dw and 10 Mbps upload available on that site. I made the child queue with 4mbps download and 512kbps upload.
But the point is that when I add parent queue in advance option the child queue doesnt move a bit forward. What could be the reason?

Situation as follows. I have a 10mbp down 2mbp up connection.
I'd like the STANDARD connection speed for devices to be 2mbp down and 384K up unless I create a queue to increase speed.
I tried lowering the "all bandwidth" queue to the required speeds and I placed it last in the list of queues but it does not have the desired affect.

I have setup a hotspot bridge on ethernet 2& 3, and a lan Bridge on ethernet 4&5. Ethernet 1 is WAN. I have 20Mbps internet package. How can I prioritize the internet speed on hotspot bridge? Suppose if there are 5 users with 1Mbps each on my hotspot bridge, then rest of 15Mbps should only go on LAN Bridge, if there is no user using internet on hotspot bridge then complete 20Mbps should go to LAN bridge user? May someone pls help?
Previously, I had setup my all devices with hotspot and prioritized the internet depending on User Profile. But I had issues with some devices getting different Address & To Address. Even set address pool to none in User Profiles but the issue persisted. So i decided to separate devices in to hotspot and lan bridges. Now I want to prioritize the internet speed on hotspot.

The download & upload speed works together to make the communication between computers possible. The more upload you use the more your download will be reduced. In other words; if you are sending a large amount of data, then your upload channel will get full. If you try to download something big at the same time, you'll need some bandwidth going out to signal the sender that you are receiving the data. If your upload is so full to the point that this "ack" message gets losts, the sender stops sending - and your Internet will start responding slowly.

The IP's in my queue are correct, I can see this because it does limit the download speed but not the upload speed.

First you must setup a simple queue then assign an ip range to the queue, just like what I did in this video. So each PC when assigned an ip from the DHCP there bandwidth will be automatically managed. This is the easiest way to do it.
