SPOLIER ALERT I think the avatar wanted Sul to win above the others. He knew that Sul would never abuse the powers and treat them with respect. Thats why he was so deveasted when Sul was lost.But in the event Sul did lose, the avatar wanted Molly to win. he knew her good heart and good nature would never become corrupted by the powers of the avatar.

Actually that's pretty much the point, Sul's magic is supposed to be so strong that he can alter destiny itself like Canaletto and was well on track to ruin his escape plan, hence why he warps him out of that reality.

Sol was a powerful magician, rivaling that of the Avatar. He had already the power to manipulate time, space and even destiny, and felt the Ultimate Prize was the only thing left he hadnt achieved yet

Even Better, Canaletto is inspired from Lucifer, the Avatar is like a god and Canaletto wants to become a god. Canaletto is also a little like Amon, Eva is like Kerrigan and Jordan is exactly like Jim Raynor, while Sul is like a protoss(even Tassadar or Adun). Also, the current avatar looks like a type of Yoda from Star wars.
