    Fred's character was such a stick-in-the-mud all the time, and it was only natural that a free spirit like Jackie would get bored with him after a while. She had just come out of an abusive relationship and probably needed the safety that someone like Fred could give her, but he always stifled her fun-loving nature by being such a wet blanket.

      @@songriver1232 A man like Fred would have been a good provider and would never have touched her in anger, but once Jackie put the abusive relationship with Fisher behind her and the son got older, she realized that she and Fred were two different people and neither was terribly happy. In one episode, she’s disappointed because Fred doesn’t want to have sex in the car with her, haha.

    For a very brief period of time, when Fred was first friends with Dan, but before Fred started dating Jackie, I liked him and thought he was going to be a fun addition to the show. When Jackie first asked him out, I was hopeful they might be a good couple, but I was disappointed by what the writers did to his character starting immediately after that date. Fred had pretty good comedic chemistry with Dan and I'd hoped that would translate to his relationship with Jackie, but as others have pointed out, Fred became dull and boring and passive-aggressive and just really unappealing, in my opinion. On the other hand, Jackie was so free-spirited, maybe settling down just wasn't for her.

  • @BleedingGrafitti

    I love and hate Jackie. She had a perfectly good man back in the early seasons (Gary). But her ridiculous ego destroyed the relationship. Fred was also a wonderful man who was funny and loving. The only hangup these two had was that he was vanilla in bed, and suddenly Jackie feels like she's too good for him (though that didn't stop her from throwing herself at him when they barely knew each other). I get people have preferences but when you have a baby it's not about you anymore, it's about what's best for the kid.
    She should've stayed with Fred, but again her ridiculous ego destroyed a perfectly good marriage. If anything Fred was too good for *her* . Now I'm glad she's growing old alone. Funny character, but such an idiot.

    • @Sig509
      @Sig509 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I have a similar opinion. Thanks for reminding me the name of the other good guy, who did not want for her to become a cop. Sure, we knew Gary less than Fred, but he seemed fine. Good, stable, and loving guy.
      I remember that I first saw Roseanne as a kid when it aired in my country in the 90's, and even then was baffled what Jackie problem with Fred was. Not to mention that stupid plot, when Fred literally did everything right, and she wanted to cut him off from the life of his kid. He was a parent too, had rights, yet the show was pushing Jackie point of view, with Roseanne all indignant when Fred wanted to take Jackie to court. I mean the guy literally tried everything before to be a part of his future child life, so what was left for him?
      Do not get me wrong. I like Jackie, she is very funny and likebale (not in the renewal, but I do not care about that show anyway), but just so, so stupid and selfish. Yes, selfish, becausehe had a good man, and should also cosider what kind of a father he would be for their kid. Not just looking at herself, and me, me , me all the time. How many attempts did she have for relationships, and how many times she failed? These failures should make her to appreciate good thing.

    • @BleedingGrafitti
      @BleedingGrafitti หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Sig509 Yep. Gary wanted Jackie to quit the force and she didn't like it. But what makes it even MORE ridiculous is that Jackie had gotten injured and already wasn't allowed to continue her career as a cop. So there was literally no point in the big argument they had. She just wanted to be "right" and feel "strong & independent" and look where that got her. She sabotaged her own life sadly.

      Agreed. Not to sound redpilled, but she's the poster child of a woman who's given herself away so many times that she struggles to connect with a genuinely good man. Then she puts the blame on him while still wailing, "Where's all the good men gone??" I love and hate her so much.

      @@ZetaReticuli_ For me the breaking point was her wanting to cut Fred off their child life. I mean how mean, and selfish do you have to be? She was an interesting character, but as the seasons followed she went downhill like the whole show. She might have been quirky, and stupid, but later on became like a cartoon character.
      Roseanne lost her funny bits with the lost of her weight. The "better" looking she was, the meaner the charcter became, and the whole show in general. I like it (not the stupid renewal), but you can't be blind to the slide in quality as the season go on.

      @@Sig509 I totally agree with you. I used to kind of cheer for the Jackie character in the beginning. And like you said, after the way she treated Fred, I was done with her.
      And like you pointed out, she wasn't the only character like that, that took a turn for the worse. Take Darlene for example. She was the smartest one on the house, and if anyone that family was going to make something of themselves, it would have been her. But nope.
