I got one of these Tula builds when it was first released. Everything they do is over gassed in the AK world. It does look good and with the ALG trigger is nice to shoot. Mine was from 1973.
I'm done with PSA because my last 5 different guns made by them have had serious issues. That lifetime warranty, it took my customer service rep over a month to give me a RMA to get one fixed. I just sold the gun and am now selling off their stuff.
Look for the Atlantic Tula builds.
Which firearms did you have issues with PSA?
@user-np7eo2vj4x the bolt carrier is not getting “stuck on the receiver rails”. I have a few different imports and that happens occasionally if you pull the charging handle back too soft. With Bulgarian and Zastava. You can polish the hammer face and it will stop
@@bluedownC AK-74, one of my 5.7 rock uppers and a few AR uppers a 300 blackout that had chambering issues and a few AR uppers with gas problems. All were in the last couple of years. My other guns from them that are 3 and 4 years old have been great with my KS-47 pistol shooting less than 2 moa with cheap steel even.
@user-np7eo2vj4x If its any consolation, you are not alone. I have premium AK103, with a FN barrel, that had several heat treat issues, among other things. I couldn't get their customer service to send me a RMA. Fortunately, I live near a PSA store, and when I showed the rifle to the manager, he felt that was unsat, and sent the rifle in for me. It's only been two months now, so maybe I'll get it back soon? With that said, based on what I have been reading no guarantee it will be repaired correctly. It didn't used to be this bad. But like you, I have come to the point that I will more than likely sell it when it does come back, when ever that may be?😒
Sling it! Thanks for reviewing this PSA Soviet Arms AKM. I don't think anyone else on TH-cam has. I bought one when they first came out. It's a 1973 with dark red furniture and I love it.
There are reviews on youtube, but they aren't very detailed and often just feel like PR videos, know what I mean?

Hey brother I love your videos keep up the good work your content really is appreciated by the Ak community
Thank y ou...just....thank you.
Thank You So Much Mishaco. Your videos are so much good info. Bought my first brand new AKM 47s Chinese in 84' and a dozen since then. Their fascinating. You are #1 go to for AK info. I dont have one yet but I think the PSA is the best value and highest quality. I think the type 56 I want is a great price. Thank You and Keep em cycling!
Thank you, I am not always 'right' and i don't always have the exact info people are looking for, but i try my best to help out when and where I can in the AK community.
Morning Misha Looking Forward to This Deep Dive 😀😊😀😇 Thanks
Afternoon!
That Palmetto Trigger Reminds Me of an AR-15 Trigger Misha I Say No Sling 😊 Too Many Non Correct Features and Not Clone Correct
I bought a 1968 Izzy kit from RGuns a few years back, and had it rebuilt by Two Rivers Arms on a ReCreator reciever with a new-production Polish Radom barrel. They did a beautiful job, and it was definitely worth the cost
Thinking about having Two Rivers build my tula kit
I before E except after C
Similar to what I did with my LegionUSA. I handpicked some kits, picked the Childers receiver w/ Soviet marks, and supplied brand-new FB barrels i got from their importer. I even picked the 922(r) parts. It was a lot of fun. I went Childers bec i like that they (were at the time at least) made in Poland on original Comblock era tooling. I felt like if my barrel & receiver couldn't be actual Izhevsk, Polish was a close second. Used a FIME FCG bec the tirgger looks very, very similar to a VEPR semi-auto FCG, and those a late style AK74.
I remember when those Saiga sporters were like $299 and nobody wanted them.
I remember when they were $169 and no one wanted them lol
Same. When I was in college I passed on a maadi as well. D'oh!
Being born during AWB and seeing all you guys reminiscing on "remember when" infuriates me since I never even got a chance to buy anything.
@alexander1902 I'm 32, was born in 91. I caught the very tail-end of these guns being under 500 bucks and would just sit on the shelves because they were "ugly" and no one wanted a shorter version of an AK when you could buy a standard AK, like a WASR for $400-450ish. This most recent time period that I remember was around 2010-2012(pre sandy hook).
@@fearnobizarre I was in college as well. I'm 32 and hadn't gotten into guns until about 6 months before sandy hook.
I recently purchased a 67 Tula from Atlantic Firearms and love it. Thanks for the video, I followed along with mine lol.
Bet ya' it looks very similar in terms of features to an Egyptian Maadi. Take the markings away and swap furniture, and a mid-production Tula and Maadi Misr look identical, which is neat.
Yup identical except for the finish.
Nice video. I like mine. I wish they put the barrel engraving under the handguard.
The tula build sounds much smoother, I remember when you had them built. I just didnt have the funds at that time. The dark red tulas were beautiful
The PSA is the Tula build. The Legion is the Izhevsk.
My dad has one and I’ve got a Romanian gun and both are good guns for us. Rivets are all good on both of our guns. Shot about 1,000 rounds on both. I like both of the examples we have
Ya know what really grinds my gears on the psa builds, ill tell you lol. The selector markings. To be more specific, the selector notches. The notches on your tula build is what i prefer.
Not dimpling receivers and trunnions together is what grinds my gears with PSA.
Yeah i think I'm with you on this one. Selector marks? lets be honest, they are all clones/replicas/faux but proper assembly? That actually can matter in a material way.@@neverquit2640
HAHAHA, love you my friend. Saiga it is. =)
Sometime ago, i found an old jumpdrive with pictures of me in a Russian gunstore buying things. I have a couple different Saigas, an SKS (sans bayo of course), and a Tegr. While they had handguns, of course I was not allowed to buy those. Luckily for me at the time, my father-in-law was a retired Red Army Major. I'm sure that helped? He liked hunting, guns, and most importantly...dogs. So we got along just fine.
Ohh that looks nice
I have a Tula PSA build and so far pretty good. One front trunion rivet not perfect, but felt not worth sending back. Shoot suppressed with subsonic Bear ammo and functions flawlessly. Did notice on mine the inside of rear front Trunion rivets not mushroomed flat. Is that true with yours?
First comment? I love your channel and have been watching for years. Thank you.
And thank you. Have a great weekend.
I got one from psa but I only shot it once so far and the usual complaints with psa Aks are the bad bolt wear and that’s a surplus part so It seems solid but it was the only place that had them built at the time and I was scared off kits bc of things that were going on at that time and I don’t know all the markings or differences offhand and I can’t find the big ak book for under like 5-600. I am happy with it considering the current market for surplus in general but especially Russian stuff.
The selector detents in the receiver look great on the Childers on the PSA they look like a Fisherprice gun.
We're a Matel house here ;P
Too clean for my taste. I like them worn & nicely broken in....like my.....shoes.@@UncleSam-7.62
It’s my understanding PSA doesn’t dimple the receiver rivet holes or use swell neck rivets as is proper for long term durability.
I was going to comment the same thing.. They need to change that
Lemongrenade is the man.
@@fearnobizarrehe needs to enable comments and stop being a weenie
I’ve had first hand experiences with 3 PSA rifles. All 3 have failed. The front trunnion rivets failed on my 103, to the point where I could wobble the front trunnion in the receiver. (Assuredly due to shear force as a result of not being dimpled.)
My 101 lost headspace, and then they botched the repair. My friend’s 101 seems to be in the early stages of what happened to my 103.
It’s frustrating to see overwhelming praise from the gun community when they cut corners on their rifles
@@ecswain7 you should make videos of that! Would go viral
I wish they had better selector markings, and spot weld dimples. And a standard trigger.
You amaze to hell
Of me! Just think if you’d took all this effort on AKs and say used it toward science or medicine lol.. great video as always
I don't think....you would want a blind doctor lol.
Hahaha!!!
I own several AKM/74 clones and only one is American made that I mistakenly bought, this one looked really good online but after receiving the finish started leaking salts, the red teak stock developed cracks, and the receiver looks correct but feels flimsy and cheap, not 1 mm strong like other European builds.
Honestly, i know what you mean. The PSA receiver does feel somehow thinner or at least different from a typical 1.0mmm AKM receiver.
It would have been nice if they had used a Childers or Recreator receiver with these and not their generic in-house one with the incorrect embossed selector notches.
Great great video .. how do the psa stack up against the Russian builds from Atlantic ?
That's a separate video topic, and yes I'm working on that too. But...money ya know? This video ain't monetized lol.
hello misha, your PSA build appears to have izhevsk / mold number grip and your legion a - tula. easy swap. thanks for comparison friend.
Makes sense. I think that Legion orig came with a US grip if memory serves? I have 2-3 other 'bakelite' type Russian grips in the ol' parts bin. Plus I have a couple original Russian woodies too. I like hanging onto parts. Never know when they might come in handy.
I can overlook some variances from the Soviet spec, but the FN markings on top of the barrel would have me looking elsewhere if I were in the market for one. The whole point of this rifle for most buyers is to have Russian AKM clone. The trigger, though easily changed, is a boneheaded move.
Exactly, only problem is the kit itself seems like a nice one heh.
It is a high quality barrel, just sucks they are so proud of it they had to stamp it loudly on the rifle. My only complaint is the smaller mag indents in the receiver bug me. And the paint doesn’t match the Russian black.
Actually, believe it or not, the smaller magwelld imples are pretty cclose to correct for a Tula AKM.@@Pavia1525
Yeah, it annoys me that these beautiful kits went to PSA to be subject to their building practices and QC, rather than a quality builder who could do these kits proud.@@misha5670
Did you ever find what was causing the malfunctions on the WASR 3 ?
Think so? DEfinitely is on the list to take back out. Life's been busy but once the range is done, should allow for many more gun reviews.
My wasr has a small step in the barrel in that same place i wonder if the fn ak barrel profile is based on romy barrels.
Which variant of WASR you gots?
@misha5670 2023 production standard wasr 10 not a wasr 2 or 3. It has the standard step at the hand guard retainer, but it has a smaller step in the barrel about 2mm behind the cast gas block. thick portion stepping down to slightly thinner going towards the muzzle. Also has the step after the gas block as well just like the fn barrel.
Hello everyone! Is there anyway to contact misha thats not on youtube ? im looking for some parts and have some general questions for him .any information would be great
PSA doing god's work with trying to make the industry more like the 80/90s. People like to complain since now you can compare old and modern builds but for me they are doing their best with little to no support. Yes its not perfect but its something that can be found on the shelf and isnt a thumbhole. lol, I have an early import Chinese ak before origin markings even were a thing and understand the hate when compared. But at the same time i like the business model PSA is pushing out. If he scaled his operations im sure Brandon Herrera's ak's would be similar to this but not 100% as never touched one of his like most others due to low production. Thanks for the video, i understand your perspective being hardcore ak and most of my comment is to some other commenters than you. Cant wait for the next one!
First Chinese AKs came in late 1983. Import markings (origin marks) were made the law of the land in 1968 with the CGA. Your Chicom AK, is it marked 'B-West' anywhere?
@@misha5670 yes import markings, my bad I meant maker markings. its a b-west import I got while in Tucson, the bakelite side folder. it was actually my first ak to own, which is somewhat lucky considering it could have been a later made in use version as i wouldnt have known the difference.
Gotcha, yeah all Chinese AK imports have some kind of marking but they can differ wildly. Some are very basic, others are short shorts lol. Some on the barrel, some on the side of the receiver, some on the underneath section. Some like the Claycos had text on the topcover too.@@Inboden69
@@misha5670 yep the difference between the polytech i have and the b-west is the markings and grip for a casual onlooker. Oh and for some reason the ak74 break on the b-west, which was weird as i bought it in unfired condition.
Me too, had both a Polytech branded and B-West AKS spiker. I think both were from 1985 too but don't hold me to that 100%. Both I got from their first owners. I kept the PT only because it belonged to a personal friend. The BW came from a local LE officer.@@Inboden69
That’s a tough one. Only because you can still find unconverted Saiga out there for less than 2k. Then again try to buy a bag of Russian AKM parts and people are posting them or just insane prices .so. It’s probably worth it. Also it’s pretty obvious these will not be for sale forever. I would say go for it. Either way you will not lose $$ on it.
You can't convert a Saiga into an AKM. Parts are just all wrong and often the dimentions are different too.
Where can you find a Saiga for less than 2k. I was on gunbroker last night and they are insane
@@user-qo3yy9nv1u I’ve seen 2 in the last month. On AKfiles both less than 2k
@@misha5670 true. I prefer the 100 series and the fact that it’s factory made in Russia. I still think you should go for it. I personally would prefer if it had a radom barrel But the FN barrels are not slouches either. I’ve built 2 AKs using them and they’re very nice barrels.
If one wanted an AKM made from Russian parts It’s totally worth it. Like I said I seriously doubt you’ll lose money on it if you’re paying $2000. Being that kits are not a whole lot cheaper on the Files or other forums.
Just sold the one that was in this video for $1.3k and was happy enough with that price.@@user-qo3yy9nv1u
I've always thought that FN barrel marking was egregious. It's worse than an ugly import mark because at least with the import mark, it has a legal basis for being there. FN could have put that marking literally anywhere under the handguard or nowhere at all lol.
Exactly, and being honest w ith you? I feel like PSA is a little too proud of their FN barrels. They over-hype them IMO.
@@misha5670 Exactly!!!!
@@misha5670 I've seen a few bore scope videos of the chambers on those FN AK barrels and they're pretty crude, chambers are extremely rough in terms the finish machining in the chamber.
For what PSA pays FNUSA for those barrels, i am sure they aren't getting their top-quality work. BTW: i still have that FSB for you whenever you need it? I know life got busy last month, so no worries.@@blue_ridge_shooting7668
2 thousand isn't bad atlantic got a batch of parts kits they had built up not long ago a couple months and they were charging around 4 thousand for the same ak minus a good barrel. They had standard nitride barrels in them not chrome lined or cold hammer forged
I thought AF was using FB-Radom barrels?
@@misha5670they could be I thought in the advertising video they mentioned green mountain barrels. But I could be wrong on that. But still this psa build is half the price of what atlsntic is charging for the same thing.i do like how psa is trying to keep rifles in the affordable pricing compared to other companies. That way the average hard working American or new shooters can enjoy having aks or ars. Me and my friend ordered 2 psa ak105s together about a year and a half ago and have been a 100% reliable. With around a thousand rounds on each one the wear patterns are on par with all my imports. So I applaud them for that. Because we were hesitant I'm trying out a psa ak when we have run imports for so long. But I wanted a ak in 545 and he wanted another on top of his arsenal 104ur sbr krink. And believe it or not but the wear pattern on his krink doesn't look good compared to the psa as far as the front trunnion his arsenal is chewing up the front trunnion bad. Even compared to our other imports with 3 to 5 thousand rounds on them. Honestly out the dozens of aks we own between us my k-usa 103 sidefolder has more rounds down it than all of them and has zero wear besides the finish. It's holding up better than all our imports which is kind of shocking. I'd say my zastava zpapm70 is holding second best even over other arsenals and wbps and Romanians
Checked and yes AF is using FB-Radom CHF barrels and they have their's listed at $2k new right now.
Misha, if you say its honey color, then thats what it is !
Right, honey coloured....like the sky at night, right?
@@misha5670 Honey is like a warm afternoon with the smell of BBQ in the air.
My guess is that misha will not be giving this a sling.
What I can say is I will give it an honest, fair chance.
0:14 SEGA!!!! 😆
My problem with psa is the way they attach the receiver rails , they use a "in house " method instead of proven spot welded rails , the in house method might be just as good but there is no data to compare and spot welders are cheap, if nodak-spud could do it correctly in America, why can't psa ?
Thank you for this info. I was wondering why this didn't have traditional spot welds.
Damn that psa is literally why I don't like parts kit builds. I'd rather have a converted saiga.
I wouldn't. No matter how hard someone tries, a Saiga can never, ever be an AKM.
I've got a 68 izzy built by iron curtain customs. I'm petrified thinking of the day that someone will ask if it's a psa swine built akm... the horror
If they can't tell the difference, then it probably wouldn't matter to them who built it in the first place.
I’m not overly disappointed that I missed the Russian AK imports. My sense is we have imports available in the US that are as good or better quality wise. I don’t know for sure though. I’ve never handled a Russian AK. What do you guys think? Do the Saigas or VEPRs offer something that current AK imports don’t besides being made in Russia?
Originals always hold a special place; if not above the rest, at least apart from them. Look at the HK community, or when it comes to AR15s, Colts are still viwed different from all the rest (even FN).
@@misha5670 Colt’s being trashed by the TH-cam gun community isn’t it?
Be careful of PSA. They don't dimple receivers into trunions and don't use swell-neck rivets.
Just a review bec folks keep asking me to review PSA products.
Indeed and I did enjoy the video. I just wish PSA fixed this egregious issue and more people know about it so it's more likely to be fixed.
Don't hold your breath. PSA seems just fine with the way things are now, and since they sell a lot of guns, hard to argue with the results. PSA is in it to make money, not clone-correct anything.@@officedullard8722
I thought psa discontinued the arsenal style waffle mags and made a different version.
*shrug* just what it came with
The ALG trigger is dumb. It's a lazy cop out trying to appeal to the fast shooters. Most people aren't buying these to run and gun fast with, and if they were, they could install their own ALG.
Exactly they should have figured the customer for this is more period correct then to compete with it. They did later offer one without the rail wish they started with it for I would have preferred that one more.
I think, they think it was an 'upgrade'. Problem is that decision really shows their ignorance when it comes to the fine details of historic AKs.
Trying to figure the customer/market for something like this is difficult. PSA's traditional customers aren't it. They tried courting a whole different type with this one. I can tell you who it is though: guys with money, who know they want a Russian AK but aren't really into the details. Think doctors, lawyors, types. For example, this rifle was originally ordered by a local judge here. A local doctor does much the same thing. They think they are getting clone-corect because they don't have the time to really research because their jobs take so much time. Its only once they get it in hand they realise some of the shortcomings. For some these don't matter, for others they do.@@jtaylorb88
Yah yah but I'm in California. And they don't let us have anything. Sucks
Sounds like a personal problem.
@@POPJack1717 just hope you don't have the same problem some day. But we are fighting it here
Wonderful state to visit. Crappy state to live in.

No ,,,you let them not let you have anything…
Riley Defense RAK-47 gets pretty close to an original AKM. Their selector lever, pistol grip, non-chrome-lined barrel, and side mount is only thing off.
Idk why people care how you pronounce things. It doesn't bother me when you call it the M1 Garand and not the M1 Garand as it's actually pronounced. Or when you say carbine instead of carbine. :P
Hey, I'll die on that 'carbIne' hill lol
So you play the dust cover like a musical instrument and complain about the tone ? Really?and I would take a FN barrel over a polish barrel any day of the week
Good, more FB barrels for the rest of us.
I'd enjoy teaching you about the AK.
And what does 'better' mean? Is the FN more accurate than the FB? maybe? But how would both be shooting at say 10k rounds? I suspect the FB is more durable vs FN more accurate. So it comes down to which you value more?@user-np7eo2vj4x
I bought a small bucket of them and just keep it in storage for use in any future build projects. IMO, FB-Radom barrels can't be beat for an AKM type build. They are as original spec as possible, and according to the guys at LegionUSA all those years ago, the steel is quality and definitely hard enough.@@cajuncatfish5417
I need to get a few of them just to have around. I'd take them over any US made AK barrel any day. I do still remember seeing some pretty bad AUG barrels FN made several years back that were brought into the shop as trade fodder. It doesn't get any better than an original military factory true-to-spec AKM barrel. I wonder if one could be reprofiled to rebarrel an SLR107F? Just in case I need to rebarrel mine at some point in the future.@@misha5670
