Only guy on the tube that would distuingish the 2 circle spot welds instead of the 3 above the dimple for actual correctness on a akm reciever. Thats insane attention to detail. Thats why whenever ak video drops i watch start to finish. I be dropping history lessons at the range and to my buddies with my various yugos and comblock collection because of your knowledge. Good stuff man
He's the nicest AK snob i''ve ever met bar none!!
I wouldn't call him a snob. I would call him a realist who knows what's good and what is a straight up POS.
AK snob here. Misha is legit. Don't let reddit give you your opinion. Come out to kalashbash in Texas. Everyone there is cool and friendly.
I got myself one of these last month from Atlantic. Mine is an all matching 1971. I love it so much. Good review Mishaco ❤
Nice. I’m contemplating getting one of these myself as these seem like the most period accurate available.
The Aardvark Is In The Background Love That Model 😊 Thanks For This Review Misha
You Rock Bro! I love how you cracked yourself up about the Ardvark. Thank you again for the great content and sharing your knowledge. Keep it coming!!
Its all uncut around here lol.
I had no idea the many slight differences in early vs late akm parts, thanks best AK nerd content as always!
I’m pumped for this review!!
Hope all is well !! Mishaco
The quality and build look incredibly well done for what it is… I will be quite happy to have that my collection…!
You said people were complaining about the color of the legion build compared to the top cover of the PSA look pretty correct the Atlantic field looks to have been painted or coated over
I've been looking at these for a little while now. While I have a 1969 Izzy and a 1970 Tula kit build already, I'd like to add another Russian before they become complete unobtanium. There seems to be two versions of these at Atlantic. This version in the video built in-house on a CG1 receiver(Polish stamping) with black teflon paint, and a slightly more expensive one built by Childers on a CG3(US stamping) with Russian paint. While I like the sound of real Russian paint, I think I'd pick the CG1 receiver over the CG3. Both have the FB Radom CHF barrel.
Beautiful! Good choices
34 minute preview, I love you Misha
Yeah sorry its a little short. I was pretty busy and had a doc's appointment today too. Next time I'll deliver an usual 1 hour episode.
Awesome, I subscribe and donate to Patreon because you provide great content, are fair, honest, know AK’s better than anyone I know, and all around seem like a great human. Thank you for doing what you do.
Thank you, hoping to do more later this year as the new range takes shape and all that gets done. Waiting sucks hehe.
@@UncleSam-7.62 if you have a problem, why are you even watching this video. Just move along loser.
@@UncleSam-7.62 How about you donate your time & truck to give me rides around in instead then?
The grip, the mag and the muzzle nut definitely. Brought it into tune.
Managed to get an excellent Atlantic AIMS-74. Kit is matching. It's an earlier run than in stock now. I don't have the granular knowledge for welds and rivets, looks and performs well without issues.
Misha, it is gorgeous. Home run.
On Atlantic site, they stated "Some part numbers from the kit may be force matched."
Atlantic told me criticism was welcome, so i said I wouldn't go easy on this rifle haha.
I got a Hungarian rifle from them and not a single one of the critical components was matching haha. Different serial bolt carrier, bolt, dust cover, gas tube cover, and trunnion. It still looks badass and shoots great though so ain’t complaining.
@@R.TafollaHow many rounds you got through yours?
@@alexander1902I only took it to the range a handful of times so between 800-900 rounds. No malfunctions though it runs flawless. I got the barreled receiver builds with the furniture on the side. But now I think they’re selling the complete rifles and they’re still up for sale on their website as “AK63F Elite Rifle”.
@@misha5670do you know if it was force matched by a Soviet refurb, or by Atlantic when imported?
You just had to get that psa stank out your system. Looks good. The muzzle nut and grip looks 100% better. I wouldnt be mad if i payed for that rifle. Really cool getting a 1960 even if it does have some replacement parts. As a blind purchase in 2024 i think you did well.
When these 1st came out last year atlantic was asking $2300 for them. They must've not sold very good because around Nov/Dec they dropped the price down to $2k. They didnt even bother to advertise the price drop too. I bought mine in Jan I have 300rds through mine not a single issue so far. Really like it was ringing steel at 100yrds right out of the box.
Yeah, the lower priced helped me jump on one too.
I like these misha ! Also I saw that Atlantic is offering Bulgarian type 3 milled kits both Aks and AKK . With stubs . interested to see if Atlantic does full offerings in rifle form. Thanks for the video!
US milled receivers are quite a bit pircier compared with stamped receivers. Not saying they won't, just that its more involved.
@@misha5670 very true
"I can't quite put my finger on it..." Oh Misha, you can certainly put your finger on it lol.
I remember when the video came out that was show casing the builds from Legion. I feel the same then as I do now. Something about the people who built those kits helps me lean towards the legion build. Some of the tulas had a beautiful red finish . I believe Mica acquired one of the nice dark red ones. Lucky man. As far as the Atlantic build goes, I wouldn't throw it out for eating cookies in bed. Lol it looks nice imo.
Apparently Marilan Monroe liked eating in bed....a lot.
Man I love me a true classic AKM it's the style of my childhood that got me into AK's in the first place the gun shows used to be flooded with them who would have thought all these years later it's harder to find a classic then the all done up everything changed out style of today
nice
I have a 69' Tula, numbers matching (including furniture) that Atlantic Arms built for me. I compared it to the Soviet Arms my buddy has, and even he is way more impressed with mine. It does look a little off that it has brand new finish on the Childers Russian receiver. However, everything else looks like a nice BFPU trophy from the 60's-70's. Next I will have AOA build me a Polish Underfolder with a 10.5" chrome lined Radom barrel. I'm excited to add an underfolder sbr to my collection.
Pretty cool. Im a sucker for surplus wood. Zastava M70 UF wood felt really good to me. The new wood that comes with modern new aks feel and look cheap. I dont understand why they cant put better wood.
Let's get it!
Yes! That grip looks good! Waffle mag. Nice!
I like your 1960 Ishi, my 67 Tula Atlantic firearms is sweet. I replaced the black grip with a tula grip and Tula magazine. I took out the original fcg to keep it compliant and put in a US made. As far as I can tell everything matches on mine. My top cover has a little slop in the same place as yours, but nothing serious. I still haven't fired mine I have Wasrs and dracos for that. Thanks for doing the review I was looking forward to it.
Don’t tell anyone but I don’t care about 922(r) I replaced the grip and the muzzle slant brake with Russian ones ;)
@@R.Tafollamost people don't lol.
most people' also includes the ATF lol
@@misha5670 lol that's right
I'm not ATF, and it's easily replaced. Looking at the rifle you can't even tell.
I said it in your other video, the trigger on my Tula from them was original. I bet yours is too.
Seems to be
@@UncleSam-7.62 I agree it’s expensive, but what’s POS about it?
Atlantic usually do a damn good job with the parts kits
When you opened the case and i saw the magazine in the bag i thought for a second it was a bag of jerky and got excited.
Looks pretty good especially with your upgrades
Nice Aardvark
I decided to roll the dice (not a lot of reviews on them) and ordered one of these about a week ago. Ended up getting a 1974 all matching. I'm happy with it, the build quality seems to be good and the parts authentic and in good condition, but I'm no expert. My only gripes are that the safety selector is really stiff and it didn't come with the original pistol grip.
Would you consider steel surplus mags "correct" for a '74 or bakelite only?
Bakelites would look nice in a '74, but Russia had tons of older steels still in service too.
So I've always wanted a parts kit rifle but not as a safe queen/heirloom gun, would this have the same longevity (or at least similar) to a rack grade AKM rifle?
Why wouldn't it? Original spec parts + Polish military CHF barrel, and the Childres receiver seems as good as anything else out there when it comes to durability.
@@misha5670 just making sure. You're the only opinion I would trust on an AK matter, with you're encyclopedic knowledge and non-shill independence.
Yes
how does this stack up compared to a wbp jack
My only gripe with these is that they don’t include the original pistol grip either installed or at least on the side. Other than that these are great builds.
I think Atlantic had them sold separately elesewhere on their website?
@@misha5670 it would have been nice to get the one that came with the kit. Also the ones sold desperately were sold out within the first day they were on sale.
Separately not desperately lol dang autocorrect
Nice rifle. When do we get to see it spit lead?
When its not storming outside. Weather this week looks crummy here.
Are childers recievers actually good? How do they compare to import stamped receivers??
Essentially they are imported receivers. The stamps are made in Poland, at least the stnadard AKM model.
@@misha5670 thanks for answering. Had no idea. They should honestly list this information on the sale page for the gun it would make it more attractive. Not saying saying US made ak receivers are bad, just don't know enough about them.
@@yohazem1 Childers are US made technically. They come over as 80%ers. Companies don't advertise such facts for legal & political reasons. What is nice though is the dimentions are correct, so great base for most AKM type builds.
I’d take either one but the legion wins for me.
Legion isn't going anywhere.
I wish Atlantic could guarantee matching parts (not force matched) then I’d probably jump. I can appreciate your point about earlier examples and force matching but I’ve seen enough kits for sale that are 100% factory matching and for $2k for an AKM I would expect that. Not sure I wanna take a gamble on one. I suppose I could go the kit route myself and have it built but eh, that’s even more money. Still thinking about it though.
Keep in mind too that some parts were stamp-matched at the factory. Instead, e-pens were used to scribble the serial on them. Also its easier to ahve a late production matching kit. For one, simply a newer gun, but really more importantly, far few serialized parts in say 1974 vs say 1964.
@@misha5670yeah if I do buy one, I’d do the opposite of what you did and put a note saying “a later one would be nice”. Still thinking about it, seems like they’ve been in stock for a while so don’t need to decide this evening.
got me a 2020 "romy bfpu" absolutely love it. tac driver and for $800 im definetly happy with it. just wish it was pre 80s so it coulda had the machined parts.
My favorite rifle. Wolverines!!! #RedDawn
That RPK is fantastic!
I saw these about 1 week after I ordered my PSA Tula. I agree with your issues on the receiver and barrel, but for what it's worth my top cover does not ring like yours did. While I hate that the FN markings are where they are, it does not bother me as much as the safety markings that don't line up.
I'd have chosen Atlantic if I'd have known about them, but the PSA is a good investment IMO. At the time I believe Tula kits were going for ~$1.5k, so with current prices I think if I wanted to rebuild it it's not the end of the world. Or maybe I'll sell it and buy an Atlantic...
Keep your PSA Tula as it is made pretty good and is a fun shooter. I shoot mine suppressed and holding up very well. I might get a Izzy from AF as both guns will be in great demand in years to come.
@@mphil3051 I agree. Mine has been fine with performance. Probably ~400rds and 1-ish MOA. No FTF or FTE or any other stoppage that isn't mag related. It goes bang, but like Misha hinted at - I didn't buy this to shoot it. If anything I'll keep it as a close example of an early Tula build and just get an Atlantic if I just feel like I need it... and the itch is strong haha
@@mphil3051 do you notice any deformation on locking lugs? I've heard that due to PSA receivers being out of spec people are seeing accelerated wear. In my 400ish rounds I haven't seen anything out of place to speak of, but I don't plan on shooting it a lot.
That was kind of my thought too. With current kit prices, a build on a solid receiver + good barrel is worth it. I have nothing against the FN barrels either.
@@ForceFedLife After about 500 rounds, no issues. Mine is shot suppressed with both subsonic and supersonic ammo and NO issues yet. I added a Zuchov folding stock and Attero rear sight picatinney rail for the red dot. Also, Jmac 360 break. Kept front all wood. Just love it. I would like the Izzy build from AF and just might pull the trigger after Misha video.
Don't break your F-111 model.
Are they using the correct front rivets not like PSA?
As far as I know, rivets are Polish FB/WBP.
Yes they are. They confirmed they did in the AKFiles forum when someone asked.
The finger shelf on the safety looks way too wide to be standard AKM, I could be wrong
I thought so too. Something felt 'off' about it but I am not an expert on all the different safety selector variations, so i was hoping someone into that more might drop in to help?
for 2g's I am going to pass
Another parts kit build...Just get a maadi arm or styer!
What is that camo pattern on the jet at the beginning of the video? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
