    the weakness of Pep is: When system is perfect, smooth an in caculation, every thing is unstoppable. But in contract, when only adverse element appear (Rodri injuris, walker down form), man city machine can not find right way to play well. we can see that the way they be eliminated in UCL: 2 conceded goals in 3 minutes against RM, 2 conceded goals in 3 minutes against Totthemham (2019), 3 continuous goals in first half against Liverpool 2018, ....

    As much as Rodri’s injury has had a detrimental impact on the team due to his influence and irreplaceability, we have to remember that City’s problems go beyond his absence as they were winning games before he got injured and after his injury for a brief period, even if he was fully fit, people need to realize that the team would still struggle since everyone is out of form and most of the players aren’t playing with confidence

    • @Leon玲央

      The actual problem is the "Stay humble eh!"
      Jokes aside, many people overlook the fact, that Pep was missing not only Rodri, but Akanji, Ake and John Stones all at the same time for a brief period.
      Now it doesnt seem like they are all completly fit (or still injured) and together with Rodri this is Peps entire reliable backline.

      @@kiritokun-2078I often play CDM or Striker depending if there's CDM or not in the team. As a striker.. its actually disappointing when the team can't win the ball and circulate it back. You also have the immense pressure to be perfect up top when you have the ball because you know your team can't handle the counter attack and you develop tunnel vision.
      So I change to CDM 😂 and sometimes I do see my strikers can freely attack because they knew I will get the ball back.
      People don't often see the psychological aspect of having a good anchor in midfield.

    Pep is a good manager when he has all the perfect players in disposal. He was never tested when his squad was depleted or average or players out of form / due to injury.
    He is seriously getting tested and I actually believe he lacks flexibility to adapt like Ancelotti, Sir Alex or Mourinho when you have most players unavailable / injured.
    Lets see how far Pep can sustain this tough time and prove his credentials as a Manager.

    This thing has been hidden for long as now finally it's coming up: Rodri's injury is basically a salt rubbing to smallest of cracks. Pep's new 3-1-6 setup isolates Rodri as a holding mid, from an attacking perspective looks great because Rodri with his IQ easily can bypass pressers and at the same time can play those long and penetrative passes up front, dictate the tempo from deep and with a midfielder high up they had an advantage everywhere, if you press those mids you isolate Haaland in dangerous positions if you don't then the mdifielders get the ball and given how good City MFs are at long ranged shots and creativity its also a nightmare to deal with. Plus, if a team stayed too compact, they brought Savinho to address this who could get past his marker and find crosses. But when the press is bypassed or when another team stays compact and City lose the ball leading to counter attacks meant that while dealing vs transitions, Rodri had to cover a sheer amount of room and with having to play every single minute, it was not sustainable at all. It looked all is well because Rodri has that athleticism, IQ and positioning in order to cover those gaps. Even when he was playing, this setup was incredibly vulnerable vs pace merchants like Mbappe, Vini, Gyokeres who could get past you with their trickery, pace and dribbling. But with Rodri's injury these cracks have become casms. When you play Kovacic in that same position, you miss Rodri's physicality and positioning and now attackers have free run at goal.Gyokeres having 2 1v1s vs City is the biggest example of this. With Kovacic playing there you miss the passing range as well that Rodri used to provide and if you play Gundogan there sure you get the passing range but you miss that physicality. As I mentioned above about the Savinho thing, with Doku on the wings as both are pure dribblers, both are risk takers too who can lose the ball as well and losing a ball means directly conceeding a chance in this new setup, that's why you'll see these two gentlemen play less minutes together in this new setup and Pep prefers to use Nunez over Grealish (who only has played 35% of the minutes available) which we don't understand especially when Grealish is much more threatning compared to Nunez in those wide regions in terms of crossing/chances creation. Plus, individual performances have also dropped and individual errors have stacked up. Kyle Walker is finished, Foden looks more like a cat, Bernardo idk wut has happened to him and Gundogan ever since he returned from Barca has seemed lost, I guess the way they kicked him out had a mental effect on him. As you mentioned recruiting has been poor as well as they have no replacement in two of the most imp. positions in ST and DM. They have lost Alvarez as well and if Haaland gets injured they're done for.

    Pep when he doesnt have his perfectly groomed la masia mid(Xavi-Busi-Iniesta) or his multi billion dollar midfield(Rodri) is just Ten Hag on steroids. Pep's great, sure. But I can bet my life savings that he will never be equal to someone like Ancelotti, Fergie or Mou. Mou and Fergie got european glory with teams like Porto and Aberdeen, or how Ancelotti has constantly evolved tactically to fit whatever team he's in charge of. Pep is extremely rigid in his tactics and egoistical to boot. He dislikes the very soul of the game prophesied by Cruyff. He just wants brutal efficiency, flair and class be damned. I'm sure he wouldve forced Palmer into becoming another generic midfield passing bot making line breaking passes for Haaland to score whole ruining his other playmaking and scoring capabilities. And that's why players in Pep's system can never work in another team, they are fundamentally incomplete as a footballer, made to master one trade and the rest, simply ignored.

    Pep needs to go back to his earlier system at City of using a false 9 or double false 9's. Prior to Haaland's arrival, City used to play not only entertaining football but they were very unpredictable in how they would score goals. You never knew which player would score and the midfielders at that time were regularly in the scoresheet.
    Ever since Pep started using the traditional striker system, City's structure changed as well. It worked great for 2 seasons but it became easier for other teams to decipher the system. You see, Haaland needs a KDB type of player to give him those pin point through balls or crosses. Without KDB, Haaland becomes highly ineffective. This is because Haaland is simply a goal scoring machine. He rarely offers any other thing unlike his predecessor, Aguero did. Aguero just like Haaland was a traditional striker. However, Pep slowly transformed Aguero to be more involved in City's game like build up play. So after a season or so, we begun seeing Aguero play in that false 9 role where he would link with City's midfield to progress play up the pitch. Aguero's movement allowed City to create numerical overloads both in the centre and in wide regions of the pitch. So opponents defensive lines were being stretched and disorganized for large times in the 90 minutes.
    With Haaland, Pep tried to make him drop deep to link up with City's midfield but Haaland is "heavy". Due to his size, he cannot play those quick one twos and dribble in tight spaces like Aguero did. So Pep decided to use John Stones as a makeshift CM /CDM when City had possession. Since Haaland could not often drop deep to create numerical overload, Pep decided to be using one CB who pushes up as a CM to create those necessary overloads. Pep used this tactic mostly in the treble winning season. However, this system only works perfectly if you have the right player for it. John Stones is highly intelligent and thus fitted perfectly in that system. Ake and Akanji are not as good in that system as Stones.
    I think Pep needs to go back to his striker-less system.
    Haaland is a great striker no doubt but he is heavily reliant on world class services from midfielders and if the midfielders are not at their best, then Haaland becomes ineffective which means that City's main source of goals is dried up.
    During the Aguero days, City were never reliant in KDB. I remember in the 2018/2019 season when City won the domestic quadruple. In that season, KDB suffered a serious injury that put him out for a couple of months yet City was still destroying teams with high margin score lines.
    Pep needs to go back to that system. The Haaland system is obviously great when it works but catastrophic when it doesn't.
    In City's earlier system, even if Aguero was injured, City would still beat teams comfortably. This is because Pep had created a system where there were multiple sources of goals. With Haaland now, it seems that this is a system designed with one major source of goals and this one source of goals is heavily dependent on one key midfielder. So if that midfielder is injured, then that one source of goal is seriously restricted.

    Pep misses Klopp this season. All the motivation or sense of competition left together with Klopp. Arne Slot is good too, but Pep was different with Klopp. They like each other and I believe he misses him. Maybe even Pep is considering leaving Prem League. Or maybe he is building a comeback story for the history books.

      Pep cant put the ball in the net for Haaland. Despite the chances missed, Haaland is still at the top of the premier league goal scoring charts. Goals isnt as big of an issue as much as the midfield and defence is. Blowing multiple leads has nothing to do with the attack.

      @pedtalkssports Pep cant defend the goal for walker too tho 🤦. If you watched those juventus and mu games, clearly they don't have a clue how to attack despite holding a fair amount of possession. And what does haaland being the top scorer has to do with anything? Since the stay humble eh is he the same striker he was before? Clearly not if you're pocketed by maguire 🤦

    The problem with city is the tactics. Pep should do the basic. He should let other teams play. This will create space at the backs of the opponents. 80% possession isnt a good thing. Players get tired.
    Pep also made huge mistakes for not buying goal scoring wingers. The successes of man city made pep overconfident.

    • @ishomite23
      @ishomite23 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's why I believe City's poor play shouldn't be used to justify Rodri Balon D'or. Even though I feel and know Rodri's absence is part of the reason City are struggling, I don't think he would be able to solve the problem. Pep looks lost out there, for the first time in his career he looks ordinary as a coach. Teams no longer fear City and even if Rodri was present, it'll not change because watching City now it's like you know they are gonna get got at any moment and that's how teams play them.

    • @ishomite23
      @ishomite23 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And also pep's inability or reluctance to build a system that involves all his AMs and wingers make sure they can create a whole lot of chances for Haaland is another reason why they're having these problems teams know that if you can put a big dude on Haaland that is capable of keeping up with his runs then City midfielders won't try to get the ball to Haaland much. The only exception to this is DeBruyne of course since he's a playmaking genius with or without Pep's strategies.

    It's not because Rodri isn't playing. That is not the common denominator. Look at their squad as a whole, they've been slowly letting players go and not really replacing them with the same quality. Mahrez, Alavrez and Sterling as examples. Then you have to look at the players who are coming to the end of their career, Walker, De Bruyne and Gundogan.
    That's what Sir Alex was best at, knowing when to move players on whether it was falling out or just realising the squad needed to be refreshed. 26 yrs at the exact same club and to refresh is not easy. Letting go of players like Ruud, Beckham and Roy. These are not regular players. He sacrificed for sure. Even bringing in players like RVP who was a game changer, short term but won us the league.
    It wasn't perfect all the time and we didn't win the league all the time but were very successful over a long period of time.
    That's all I'm gonna say
