You don’t need to enable HDR for the inputs for apps. It’s on by default for built in apps
Had the same issue on a previous Sony model so I knew where to go to fix this. I don't know why Sony puts the tv out on the market without the 4k being enabled already.
It’s really baffling. Or having the TV automatically change to the wide color gamut when it detects an HDR signal

bro you saved me such a head ache... i thought maybe my HDMI cable i spend almost 400$ was bad or maybe my bluray player. I was swtiching the HDR mode under Display and not under the Watching list. And when i would switch it from display i got super dark image and awful red tones !! but the way you explained it , works PERFECT!! thank you !! Def Subbing
I’m confused and baffled why:
1. HDR isn’t enabled by default
2. This setting is pretty much hidden
My PS5 was giving my an error when trying to enable HDR and cables, inputs, nothing worked. This setting naturally fixes the issue.
So I’ve been watching non-HDR content for the past 2 months on my brand new OLED 4K HDR TV 😐
Thx for the video, I am having trouble getting 4K for my ps4 pro. My Sony 800h is contacted to Sony 1080 receiver. When I plug the ps4 directly to tv it works, but when I plug is to the receiver no 4K is avail only 2k. Pls help.

Worth noting that some of their TVs (such as the XF90) only have this capability on certain HDMI ports, 2 and 3 in my case. Annoyingly 3 is the ARC port, so with a soundbar connected to port 3, you can only have one HDR source connected on port 2, the other 2 HDMI ports only accept standard range signals.

So it can’t play HDR natively you need to have a device that can output it?
Imo HDR looks incredibly washed out. Things are usually too bright or too dim, almost like the contrast gets lost in the mix. I'll stick with it off.

I fought with my Sony A8G and Apple TV 4K for literally 2 days trying to get Dolby Vision to work. Changed HDMI cables, factory data reset the TV, sound bar and Apple TV 4K. Nothing worked until I found and watched your video. Sony put this in the absolute worst place in my opinion - this should have been in Picture Settings IMO. I'll take that up with Sony ;) thank you for posting this video how-to!!!

I just bought a PS5 and had this issue with a 2020 SONY TV (49XH8596) and no issue on my old 2016 TV (50sd8005 ) and it was driving me crazy !
I did what you said and no go still. So I bought a 75inch Sony Bravia X850G and it will NOT play properly dolby /Atmos. Movies on "Movies Anywhere" like Shazam and Pikachu. These movies act like they are buffering through out the whole movie! None of my other movies do this, all are crystal clear except movies that show 4k/Dolby vision/ Dolby Atmos.
The Atmos sound is superb on my surround but video is horrible throughout. I have gone through settings a million times and cannot figure this out and my other inexpensive tv in Sony tv which is about 20 ft away from router is the problem, but I dont think so.
Recently, I purchased a Poco phone that supports Dolby vision HDR content. But when I play HDR content on VLC media player it doesn't play video and when I play HDR 10 content it plays perfectly, and when I play HDR content it does not play perfectly, it is very saturated. I have found 2 players just player and fx player and both play Dolby vision content perfectly, but only the fx player plays HDR content without saturation problems, not just the player. Can anyone answer this question?
Tried it on my sony bravia. Does not work. No wonder why Sony TVs are so unpopular because they're complete garbage. I double checked that all of my HDMI inputs should be able to handle 4K HDR in my PS5 will not detect it.
Thank you, now I have corrected the setting on my SONY. Turns out DirecTV has a channel #104 that you only see in the guide if you are properly set to 3840 x 2160 pixels in the settings of your DirecTV menu AND also in your TV's settings where you have to set the HDMIx you are on to enhanced just as you say. Thank you very much.
I just applied the latest Sony firmware update to my XBR65X900F and now Netflix looks like crap when I watch an HDR or Dolby Vision movie...any ideas on how to fix ?
Question. If my ps4 is playing HDR content by pressing the info button it shows it's in HDR. BUT! when I'm watching 4k on the tvs application such as TH-cam or Amazon prime. It does not show in the info bar...

I called Sony about this issue. They told me my Sony tv is not compatible with Dolby vision. I am glad I came across your channel. Thank you. You solved my problem. Even Apple support told me my Sony tv is not compatible with Dolby vision. I also called Costco were I bought the tv and they also told me my tv does not support Dolby vision. I have a Sony xbr-90ch. The box states Dolby vision. They are all idiots. Your the man. Thank you very much. You solved my issue. I will be calling Sony support tomorrow and I am going to give them hell.
Mine still says that it’s not supported. But I have the Sony Bravia XBR-65X850D. I have it on the settings you have it on. It’s HDMI 2. Maybe another setting that needs to be turned off for it to work?

I have a question. I own a hdr TV from Sony. The hdr effect on that doesn't look to great but I haven't upgraded to 4k yet (uhd player and hdr movies) will the effect be better with 4k content connected?
