    Over the years I've fished bass, catfish, and crappie tournaments. One thing they all have in common is that the worst thing you can fish is your memories. Things change every day.

      Thanks Chris. I've never minded sharing "how I did it" or "what color were you using" information myself. I like to help out other fishermen if I can, but also realize that what worked today might not work tomorrow.

      I'm only 37 and been chasing another big flathead for years . It'll mentally whoop your ass . But I got that big 50 pounder in the Ohio river just a few weeks ago and finally satisfied again! Lines tight bubba!

    Hey Chris I was hoping you may be able to answer a question for me. I've been fishing my whole life and love doing it and I'm wanting to get into doing some catfish and crappie tournaments but I need to build a boat that will work for tournaments. Would a 21 foot bass boat modified for catfishing work well? Can you give me a few tips on things I need to make sure to look for or at least add to the boat to help keep me on top the game.

    • @chrissouders476
      @chrissouders476  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey there Mattdidit84 I've seen several guys modifie bass boats in to cat boats and they seem to do just fine. One of the biggest things would be a livewell system that can sustain big fish in tournaments next would be a good trolling motor and sonar those mean just as much to me as bait does lol.

    Without Sonar, y'all would be lost. Lol. I enjoy your videos Chris but without Lowrance, you folks would be lost. Not complaining at all so please do not misconstrue me. Its like these big shot hunting guys, they set twenty something game cameras out so they know where and when the deer are going to be there. Just takes the fun out of it for the most part. I hope you win some tournaments this year! Rooting for you from Mississippi brother! Catch a big un!

      Thanks for watching buddy and I'll take this as a challenge 😉

    • @matthewsinger4902
      @matthewsinger4902 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bill Briscoe kind of a back handed compliment. It’s a tool. You can make a beautiful set of cabinets with an old school hand saw and a hammer but if you have the ability to use a table saw and pneumatic nailer then you’re cheating? The majority of the guys I’ve fished with (and myself included) cut our teeth on flat bottom boats and coming home skunked while we learned the contour of the bottom by feel.
      Also, a tournament angler should use everything they can, as long as it’s legal, to win. It’s what pays the bills. You can be a “purist” and come in last while Johnny Technology is hammerin em.

    • @billbriscoe9414
      @billbriscoe9414 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew, Reading a River Old School without Sonar takes a Skill and I rarely go home Skunked. Maybe because I have fished for Flathead all my life. The Pride of doing it without Sonar gives you a sense of Pride. I am just saying the Challenge is more gratifying. Love to see a Tourney where these guys do it like the old Carpenters do. I was not bashing Chris. Just saying the challenge is taken out of it with gadgits.

    Hey man. My name is Mario. I was wondering how would i go about getting a sponcer

    • @chrissouders476
      @chrissouders476  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mario in my experience the best way to acquire a sponsor is simpler talking to them being yourself and honest. All of my sponsors are products and equipment that I use and depend on every day and what I mean by that is don't take a sponsor or product on that you don't use and depend on yourself.
      Normally around September companies will start taking resumes for the the next year. This information is normally on there web site somewhere. Good luck

    Anybody question the use of more than 2 fishing poles, if they’re Ohio fishing licensed boys they are illegal and I would say in WVa. as well. Glad they didn’t cash and have to attest to fishing legal.

    • @chrissouders476
      @chrissouders476  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey John on the Ohio River you can now use 3 rods per person with an Ohio license. But if you are fishing where WV boarders the Ohio River you go by WV laws with a WV license which allows you to use as many as you would like. Now in this video we were fishing before Ohio placed the 3 rod limit on the Ohio River and Lake Erie but were still legal with a WV licenses. We did cash a check doing this event as well. Thanks for watching

    Bait , bait, bait bait bait bait bait BAIT ! Nice when you live nearby a state where you can use a 6 , 8, 10 ft net with 5/8 x 1.1/4" mesh that has a fast sink rate to get the bait you need to catch big cats. In WV your 'ham strung' right from the get go! Limited to a 3 ft net with 3/8 mesh. Good luck getting that sort of net 20 ft deep quick enough to trap anything!
