Back in the 90"s i craved for an Escort Cosworth. My bedroom wall was covered in pictures of them from Fast Ford, Performance Ford & Max Power magazines. Sadly i had to make do with the Cosies little brothers, the Series 1 and series 2 Escort RS Turbo. Those 90's boy racer days were some of the best i ever had, and i too spent many a summer evening entertaining local ladies on the back seat. Think i spend just as much money on carpet cleaner as i did on 4 star petrol lol
Nova SR, sound system worth more than the car. Just crusing around & around town. Then off to the local supermarket car park, not getting in till the early hours, McDonald’s trays under the rear wheels, them was the days!

my uncle has the motor sport version, an honestly such a joy to go out in, the amount of attention this car still gets going through local towns just goes to show how iconic it was
What a beauty, I had a dark red escort 1.6 as my first car, it never let me down, I got some genuine cossie wheels on it, looked amazing. Hope you can get this sorted and running properly, stunning car
Regarding the issue, I don't know how long you haven't driven it for but itd be weird for your fuel to gunge up (if its modern fuel) I think you should look at two possibilities. Your issue looks to be load related, the more load the worse it gets. Therefore it may be coil packs, coil packs don't just work or don't work, they fail slowly, if they're nearly failed the hardest time to light the spark is when you're at low rpm and lots of throttle opening (high load) . So if it's misfire like and in this area then that's your culprit. The other potential issue (if it's not like a normal misfire) is your map or Maf sensor, or tps sensor this will give symptoms not like a misfire on 1 cylinder but more so the whole engine cutting out. I don't know how these cars were tuned but as I said it looks to be load related, as you give it more load it gets worse. So therefore whatever is measuring the load side of the engine mapping (map/maf/tps sensor) could be bad. If it doesnt read correctly you'll either overload it with fuel or starve it of fuel as it the mapping is out of calibration due to the bad sensor.

You should always change plugs leads and coil all at once as a bad set will ruin the other - Even the best built Fords when they sit the fuel pump just gets weak or simply dies! Cant wait for part 2!
