    Hey JD. Watching you look for the right wire reminds me of the scene from the movie Down Periscope. Thank you for the great video.

    It makes you wonder why Ford gives you the up fitter option then makes it all most impossible for average person to use them 😡

      So they can advertise the feature and make it like more "truck"

    My 2020 350 Dually has up fitter wires (didn’t know initially) inside below the glove box behind the kick panel. If you haven’t highly encourage you check.

    Why didn't you use the factory Pass-thru wires that are in the factory harness inside the cab?

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wire gauge is too thin. I plan on running 12 and 14 gauge wires into the cab as a bundle. I found a couple routing options. With a factory wires, I'd have to add additional relays, which really don't make sense considering all the upfitters have relayed connections. 25-40amp

      @@BigTruckBigRV what was the Amp draw of that mirror? A 14ga wire can handle 15amp.

    At what point do you risk voiding warranties? Always one of my main concerns. It seems like dealerships will use any excuse to get money from owners.

    JD thanks for clarifying the factory upfitter wiring at the fuse box. Have a 24 Lariat and need to install my trailer camera monitor. Still don’t understand why ford uses such small wires for the pass through harness

    I'm installing some Firestone airbags on my 2023 f-350. The installation manual calls for direct connection of the compressor to the battery. Which is fine as I don't have a problem with that. Should I go ahead and use one of those lifter switches instead? Is it worth the hassle to go through that? And I think I will always want to have power to it since I do want to always have the compressor putting in at least 5 lb of PSI. Your thoughts?

    Thanks for the video. It answered several questions I had about the upfitter wires and switches. But what you didn't show, or explain, was where you routed the wire from your newly installed 12 outlet to your backup camera monitor. Did you remove more interior trim to hide the wire going up to the rear view mirror monitor ? And, a little off topic, was that monitor for a trailer rear view camera ? If so, when you aren't using the camera do you just remove the monitor from your rear view mirror ? What brand camera and monitor are you using ?

    They do give a color code to identify the wires.

  • @thebigguy
    @thebigguy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I understand the desire to try and route that wire in a clean way in the engine compartment, but all I could think about was what happens the first time the truck needs any work that involves removing the fenders, grill, radiator, etc. The service techs will cut that wire in about two seconds flat and if you're lucky they'll "kinda" put it back together when they are done.

    Marine grade is typically tinned aluminum.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think you might have that backwards.. from what I've researched, most marine grade wire might be tinned on the outside but is solid copper on the inside. Having copper clad wiring in a marine environment is a recipe for disaster.

    That was painful to watch. You realize that you can buy an adapter that fits into your review mirror wiring that puts out 5v and 12v for these rearview mirrors, radar detectors etc? No unnecessary tie ins to your upfitters no need to run extra outlets.

    There is the option of using the light gauge wires. You need them to control a relay to operate or provide power to accessory.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I totally understand that I can run an additional relay using the small gauge pass through wires. The entire point of having outfitter switches is to use the included relays that are already wired and ran. It's just passing those wires through the cab of the vehicle that becomes an issue.

  • @magnum12pm

    If you look in that upfitter fuse box, pull out one of those fuses there is a switch which allows switch 5 and 6 to be hot all the time! FYI

    So not clear how you got the power to the rear view mirror. Does the wire you ran from the upfitter wire under the hood power the multi plug 12V/USB and the mirror plugs into it?

    • @BigTruckBigRV

    Love the install. Wish GM would get off their duff and finish the upfitter package for the AT4 and Denali 2024 trucks. They have it for the non AT4/Denali trims. Also slightly disappointed (wasn't a deal breaker) that an $88K HD truck doesn't come with upfitters from the factory.

    I have 2020 F450 SD and I paid shop to extend wires from box through firewall into the passenger kick panel. Do you plan to run a 12ga wire for all 6 switches? Also, starting to hook up dash cam, TST700 and backup camera. Are you saying I should wire everything for 12v cig lighter instead of direct with wire fuse?

  • @traveldawg
    @traveldawg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’ve done much the same running a wire through that driver’s side grommet (on a few trucks). But in this case using the existing pass-through wires would have been much easier (and still allowed for enough power/current). Those ground wires are suppose to go through the Hall Effect current sensor for the BMS to know what current the devices in those accessories draw. A ground connection to the chassis would have been a better choice.

  • @ronlewis6766
    @ronlewis6766 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Take the trim piece off the side of the console, should give you more access to hide the wire.
    On the Pass through wires. If you connect a heavy gauge wire to it and another heavy gage on the interior, would the voltage drop for such a short run be that bad?

    You should look into bulkhead and interior grommets. It might be worth adding an interior grommet in the drivers right knee area into that voided area.

    Aux 1-4 should be rated at 25A, 5&6 are rated at 40A. Even though 1-4 are “switched” 12V there are aftermarket adapters that can make them “constant” if you wish. Just an FYI. 👍🏽

      I agree. I just put in an order for a 2024 F450 high output Platinum and will upgrade to the DCR fuel pump when the truck comes in. We're going to go full time RVing so if the Bosch pump let's go I can't afford to have the truck down for weeks while the dealership repairs the entire fuel system under warranty. I'd rather pay the price of getting a more reliable pump than worry that the Bosch one will go bye bye and take my fuel system with it.

      @stevenjefferys10 the Bosch pump is top notch, just not designed for US diesel fuel. Also, in case u didn't know, the DCR pump WILL void your engine warranty. The disaster prevention kit will not.
      The cp4 is fine as long as you change fuel filters often and use additives.
