    Hey, JT. I made the tan slip! Bryan Absher (Moonshine Leatherworks). At the moment I can be found on Instagram and FB, but a website is in the works! Thanks for your review and I'm glad the slip is serving you well! And yes, everyone need to use a slip when carrying a slipjoint/traditional knife in the pocket!

    I have carried a pocket knife since 4th grade and I'm 76 now and never used a slip since they weren't heard of back then. Now, I carry slipjoints and have slips for most that I carry. If I'm carrying a working blade I won't bother with a slip. If it is a special knife, I will use a slip which I get from Holladay Leather Works. Eric can be found on the Jimislash Facebook group. He also makes a field note holder which is beautiful. Prices are reasonable. Thanks for sharing.

    any knives that i carry are users, so I don't need a slip and I kinda see slips as more of an accessory for fashion or looks. But they may service a small purpose like you said to keep them from clanking around. Interesting video topic

    I am beginning to get into traditional knives. If I get one that won't fit in the 5th pocket I will get it a slip. Yes to prevent overstretching I would use each knife in it's own slip. Mainly because of other metal don't want the knives getting scratched by keys or coins. Thanks for showing this.

    I used to have so many slip joint knives as a kid i miss them. My neighbor sold them from a catalog. I made a fancy wood case with a glass top to keep them in. I never heard of putting them in slips back then. Sounds like a good idea.

    Great video. I found that with some basic leather tools, a knife slip is pretty easy to make and doesn’t take too much time at all. I understand leather working is not for everyone, but I enjoy it. I suggest you try it out and you can even customize it the way you want. I think that Case teardrop is begging for a slip with neon green thread

    It’s so strange and cool to me to see this kind of resurgence with slip joints. I think most everyone who collects knives started with some sort of slip joint (in my case). Then I got into fixed blades and returned to folders after that. Interesting to see how the knife movements change and come full circle

    I have slips for each of my GECs,a few GEC slips,which work fine..a couple hitch and timber slips which are a bit pricey but excellent quality and have a pen holder that holds a fisher space pen..have a couple KSF slips that are perfect with the right knife(#38,#82)..and the rest are the CK slips in assorted sizes which are by far my favorites,the quality and color selection are top notch(BTW the small CK slip is perfect for the #06)

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a locking knife 90% of the time, and my slipjoint are a secondary carry that rarely see use unless I'm actively trying to use them. Very cool to get your perspective. I think if I used them more it would make sense to abandon the slip. Great point.

    I've bought a few slips, ended up not using most of them and just carrying in the watch pocket.
    The ones that I do use are dedicated to a particular knife.
    Not really getting why you are worried about a tight fit. It's in your pocket, upright, knife's not going anywhere.

    I love my slips and I have certain slips for each knife that I want to carry. I’m no pro either at this point but I’m starting to find that some of the $2.99 leather slips from blade HQ, I like more than some of the ones that are really popular amongst the community - tale of knives , hitch and timber are all great but for the price of 30 slips from blade HQ I can buy one from one of those companies ... maybe I’m trashy when It comes to slips but I like certain colors and certain thicknesses etc. I like all slips. No such thing as bad looking leather unless it’s not leather imo.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points, yeah, it's easy to spend a ton of money on them, and the knives themselves can be pricey as well. I'll have to see what bladehq has. Thanks man!

    I used to never carry a slip because I like scratches and wear, but now I do because I can carry a pen in the same slip. Plus, it gives me an excuse to see another natural leather product patina.

  • @1969jmac
    @1969jmac 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never understood why someone would want a slip for a pocket knife. It just adds more steps in the process of getting to the knife to use it. Unless they carry a knife in a pocket with say a phone or something i cant see adding more time and steps to the process. If a knife is good enough to ride in a pocket and be sued its not like carrying it in a pocket will damage it anymore than using it..I just don't get the whole pocket slip thing

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on your perspective, but I never am in a situation where a knife in a pocket slip is my go to knife, so I never need it quickly.
      A big benefit to a pocket slip for me, is that it tends to stay in the same place on the pocket and not bounce around, so it can actually be easier for me to get to it than dogging digging under my keys or phone or anything like that.
      I completely understand the idea that they are pointless. If these knives has pocket clips I'd never use a slip.
