Overview of mods and operation of this 16ch 2.4GHz programmable transmitter using OpenTX r2940 firmware.
I have er9x on my old Tgy 9x, but i took a break from all the RC stuff. is OpenTX what's left for the 9x? i'd rather not buy a new radio. I'm using FrSky TX/RX modules.

Hi, I did the upgrade tested with both openTX and ER9x, but unfortunately the fsTH9x cannot bind to its receiver anymore. I had to get FS i6 now. Can you please provide some info on this. What happened with the upgrade that receiver is not able to bind to TH9x. And, I am INdian so basically my products are mostly non EU. Some discussions said non EU compatibility issue. Couls you please suggest something. My FSTH9x is alive but behaves dead without receiver. Advance Thanks
Any software updates on it?.You might just get the Q7 with all open tx within it, or a higher model within the open tx system.
Whatbis the use of the hole in the right side?

Hi Newton! Just got the smartieparts for my 9X, installed everything. But I just can't seem to get it work! Do you have a guide somewhere that could help? I think the biggest problem is with the connection between the transmitter and my pc!

Hi Andrew. I have a "new" tgy9x with afhds2a protocol and it has a bind issue. So I ordered xjt module for it and I want to flash open tx or er9x but you write that firmware wont work on newest tx. Why is that, where is the problem?
I haven't kept up with the latest but some time back Turnigy started using a different chip would couldn't be flashed with OTX. Best source of info is RCGroups and OpenTX Uni
how do you add pots in the mixer page. what are they named eg !RUD + RUD -100 and 100 on a channel gives you the rudder switch.
I don't have this radio anymore but I think they are P1, P2 and P3 and the value goes from -100 to +100
How can i use the frsky r9m with this radio?
Thanks for putting this up since i have one of these original 9x's and am interested in using opentx. The problem I have at the moment is locating the r2940 firmware since google code closing. You said that this is the last version to work with the 9x... any chance you could point to where I could get this or if you've tested the later versions and if they work?

for the last version of the firmwere , google and download companion, upgrade companion( it will have a option , or it will jump on you to upgrade), in the meniu of the companion you wil have an option for dowloading the firmwere for your radio (64bits, 128bits )
if you want telemetry , in the options of companion you nead to select frsky
Is this for the 9X or Taranis?
I tried with the companion9x and this wasn't able to locate any of the firmware being selected so I took a punt and downloaded companion2.0 (version 2.0.19) and this worked without any issues with my 9x. Just had to select radio type of 'OpenTX for 9x board' in the settings and it got the appropriate firmware.
I think that companion9x probably attempts to get the firmware from google code which is no longer there.

The link to the OpenTX announcement has been removed from their news feed, and the 9x is still listed on the OpenTX page - Any idea what the compatibility status is?
FlySky did a fairly thorough investigation and had no problems flashing the "cloned" chips, and put out detailed instructions. So I suspect it's all good now. Have a look at this discussion openrcforums.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=126

I'm still trying to get all of this stuff through my thick skull. I have Open TX on my Turnigy 9X, now and think there is a new version available. I have V:2.0.19 now and each time I try to find how to add flaps to the ailerons on my micro skyhunter I get different results, but never complete success. If I ever get the ailerons to act as flaps for landing, I will want to add some down elevator to offset the flap influence. I have gone to Open TX University, but can't find anything there on the Turnigy 9X. Everything there is about the Taranis with Open TX. I feel fairly certain that the same instructions should apply, but I just haven't got it to work?? Flaps, flaperons, source, switch, all gets lost it my feeble brain some how. I know that you don't have the 9X anymore, so any pointers to other videos or sites would be appreciated greatly.

Just get the basic for the 9x. if you have the money for an extreme you might as well get a 9XR Pro or Taranis and not have to hack the transmitter

No luck so far with my attempt to install Open TX. I got the SmartieParts basic. It is an easy install of the electronic hardware, and only the external USB wiring connection. I cut a slot/hole in the battery door so I can connect with out any extra problems.
I don't know if I have the correct driver installed? I used the link to Zadig and selected the USBasp driver after about a dozen different tries I think the driver installed, but still no luck installing the Open TX, Can't find what I'm doing wrong. I have the Turnigy 9x, ver:2 on the board inside it says V:15 and the Smartieparts page says that is compatible as long as it is not V:1. I may have to go back to school and learn more about computer programming before I can get this to function. Is Location Port_#0006 the same as COM Port 6? Which version of the software download is for the Turnigy 9x? They have versions for every TX except mine I think. I'm assuming that many should be compatible, but nothing working yet. Does the radio have to be turned on before downloading the firmware? When I try to download to TX, it says it can't read current firmware. At least it hasn't bricked the TX yet. Everything is still the same when I power it up? HELP !
I'm using mac so mine will be different. OpenTX Version r2940 was the latest for the 9X. I'll do some searching and give you more info

I'll go to the University now. I just finished doing the ground wire mod on the horizontal trim boards. I've had this Tx apart so many times only one screw holds. That'll be next thing to fix if I get the Open TX done. Thanks for the tips.
Great radio after you fix the design error (in all versions but especially newer m128 chip variants) that causes a crash/reboot when using horizontal trims. openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/Horizontal_Trims_Ground_Fix. Mine also would reset using the exit button but a 2k resistor in series with the button fixed that too.. Best upgrade to mine is an out facing connector to set up everything using the awesome opentx companion software on the PC through a usbasp programmer (no pressing buttons on radio!). Soldering iron and hot glue is mandatory for this one!
