  • Following on from my video discussing the conversion of my Turnigy TGY9X here is my full video of the conversion process which is well worth the effort because OpenTX is better than the stock firmware.
    Any questions please leave them in the comments section below.
    Thanks for watching.

    Hi Bill, thanks for the great video. I have two Turnigy TX's and decided to do the USBtiny installation on both of them. The first one loaded OpenTX without issues - and works perfectly. The second one (done by the same method) has a strange fault. Open TX loads and verifies correctly (using EEPE), but the MENU button doesn't function at all, so when OpenTX asks to do the stick calibration, this doesn't work. You can see that the potentiometer knob channel inputs work, but the sticks do not. I have actually checked the Momentary Push button (Normally Open, Closed when pushed) Switch under the MENU button, and it appears to be working properly. So I am flummoxed with this one. I have tried loading the OPENTX many times, with different options, but always the same result. Any ideas?
    The 9X that doesn't work is probably a bit newer than the one that does work OK. Thanks, Tim.

      Honestly Tim, I am not sure. You are sure your soldering has not bridged and made the conversion as your first radio it should be fine. Have you checked the settings are the same for both radios and set to the same mode?

    Just a little confused why you didn't fix the USBTiny to the case with a hole to access ... battery bay has actually hole ready made ... and solder direct to the pins having programmer permanently mounted ? Seems a bit strange to have to open the radio up to connect ....

      Hi, I think I did explain in the one of my video I have two radios and my first one I did install the usb connector so I can back up the models. There will be no more OpenTX updates for the radio so would only
      be used for model back ups. The radio I used in the video was updated when making the video and I decided not to install the adapter permanently so I can use the usb connector in other projects if needed. Installing it permanently is a good idea.

    Two questions Bill. If I wanted to reinstall the original Turnigy firmware, just use the eepee program and flash it back? Second, would I be able to use my Jumper t16 4in1 multi Module in the Turnigy radio? Thanks!

      If your Jumper T16 has an external multiprotocol module and has the buttons at the back for binding and selecting the protocol it should work but I have never tried this.

    Hello, thx for the video and the explanation.
    I Have a Question, how better is a FRSKY than this FlySky? (Sorry for my bad english, im a spanish speaker).
    This FlySky radio can process Telemetry if i put for example a FrSky Module with telemetry???
    Thanks a lot!

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sebastian, if you purchased a 4 in 1 module you would be able to use either FlySky or FrSky receivers. Your radio will need to have a JR module bay like the RadioMaster TX16S which has the module built in internally. TBS do sell a Multi Protocol Module for radios that do not have it built in. The FlySky FS-I6X Transmitter can receive telemetry from the receiver. The TGY9X cannot process telemetry.

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I have never changed a motherboard on a radio and have little knowledge of the SmartieParts board but it sounds like the cable may be loose? If they are push in or ribbon cables reseat them and or check your soldering is good if you needed to solder any wires.

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer

      Yes you will be able to back up your radio settings and models via the OpenTX Companion 2.1and set up new models and send them to your radio. You may get an error pop up "your eeprom is from an old version of opentx" but just ignore it.
